• 130 elementary counselors were given a 40-item questionnaire that listed the counselor’s day-to-day work. The findings show that most counselors are trying to meet the needs of individual students and other school duties (lunch duty, discipline, recess duty), that are interfering with group counseling and actual counseling in general.

• Counselors were assessed using ordinal selection.
• Ordinal: Counselors rated each question based on how they viewed their actual role and their ideal role using a scale. The scale choices were: “not at all” (0), “somewhat” (1), “frequently” (2), or “very frequently” (3) (CITE)
• This was a tested variable to determine the day-to-day work of counselors.

• The counselors were the independent variable. The responses to the questionnaire were the dependent variable.
• The responses obtained from the counselors depended on whether the counselors worked in rural or urban schools, the number of students they serviced, and the specific duties assigned by their administrators.

• The data is qualitative. 130 elementary school counselors took a questionnaire. Forty-nine were men and 81 were women.
• The questionnaire represented thirty-eight day-to-day counselor duties and two items that less frequently done.
• The questionnaire was divided into two sections: Ideal Role of counselor and actual role
• The 40 items were based on a scale and was also the dependent
