...Elements of Religious Traditions Paper Elements of Religious Traditions Paper Religious tradition plays a significant role in the lives of human beings around the world whether a person believes in a higher being or believes that there is no God or gods in control of the way the world works. Religion is said to have different meanings, but my understanding of the word religion is that it is a belief system or cultural system that can help re-connect the human reality with the sacred world by being a moral guide for the way human beings live although they are on earth. In this paper I will discuss how religious tradition describes or encourage relationships in many different aspect of life. Relationship with the divine can mean anything from being an obedient child of God that knows he or she is not perfect and is willing and able to ask for forgiveness of his or her sins. The relationship could be one not of belief, because of the many different events that have taken place in a person’s life that has lead them to think there is no god. What is the divine, the divine is said to be of, from, or belonging to god. A person’s relationship with the divine depends on many events and teachings that he or she experience throughout their life’s journey. Having a relationship with the divine helps he or she walks in the light and live according to god’s law or of the light of the religion in which a person or culture follows. While some may think a relationship with the divine can...

Coming together to or to reunite with one another, which is like forming a culture group in the form of religion. The ritual beliefs are enacted and made through ceremonies, and a moral code is a way of teaching the "goodness" or "rightness." Tradition, on the other hand, is an inherited religious practice or a social custom, which was, in the near or far past, introduced first by certain circumstances and then perpetuated by following generations. An urgent need to meet an exceptional event may linger long, a human experience over a length of time may turn into a custom, a social behavior in face of a particular event may continue, and a practice, born of a belief in an abnormal occurrence or an extraordinary experience, may turn into a tradition with the passage of time. Alien invasion, conquest, occupation, captivity, slavery, forced labor, forced marriage, and socialization as well inter religious rivalry also help to introduce, innovate, change, transform, hinder, stop, erase, or kill a tradition. It has many a cause to fall into a firm form. Created, adopted, borrowed, or imposed, once it becomes a tradition, people practicing it develop a kind of attachment to it. That makes them bound to...

...Theater Today Matthew King How to See a Play 6/4/07 Fusion I have to say that overall I really enjoyed Performance Fusion. The physical theater was small, but much larger than the last show that we saw at Impact. After our first tour of the small theater, I didn’t know what to expect of a play there. My first impression of the small theater was that it was very bare, dark and small, so it was interesting to see the stage with sets and actors illuminated by the lights. Since the theater was small, the actors were easy to see. I also want to comment on the sound. I thought the acoustics in this theater were just mediocre. Although the theater is small and about the same size as the Ashby Stage, the actors were a bit more difficult to hear, although the microphones did help quite a bit. I thought most of the performances were great; however I enjoyed some of them better than others. My favorites were The Boogeyman, Rhythms in the Veins, and Playwriting 101: The Rooftop Lesson. I really enjoyed the way Boogeyman began. First off, the play opened with the heavy sounds of hard rock/metal band Godsmack, and then followed by a scary story by from the older brother to his little brother Timmy. During his scary story, I really liked the effect that the flashlight gave along with the strobe flashes that simulated lightning. I also liked the sound effects that were used in the play. For example I thought the creaky door was a good effect. I thought the set...

...The Elements of Religious Traditions The Elements of Religious Traditions Brian E. Johnson, Sr. REL/134 Lewis Hoye, Instructor University of Phoenix This paper represents a discussion on the basic elements that comprise religious traditions. Included will be descriptions of the basic components of religious traditions along with the relationship they have with the divine, sacred time, sacred space and with each other. Also included will be discussion of what religious traditions say, what religious traditions do, and how they are organized. What makes a religion a religion? How does it affect the people that believe in it? How is religion affected by culture and vice versa? Religious study has evolved into a very complex academic endeavor. Whether it began as an attempt to either prove or disprove religion is not clear. What is evident is that most human cultures are profoundly shaped by the religious traditions of their respective regions. Studying religion will help one to gain perspective on the people that practice as well as the society in which they live. It has been noted that in studying religion, one brings their own beliefs into the process. Whether this is a help or hindrance is not as important as the fact that there are ways by which one can at least attempt to remain objective in the study of religion. What makes a religion a religion? Scholars have recognized that although the components may look different, there are certain elements, usually eight...

...Elements of Religious Traditions Edward Mendoza Rel/134 Jan 28, 2011 Joseph Swoboda Elements of Religious Traditions o In the following I will be discussing about how religious traditions describe beliefs and encourage practices in the relationships with the divine, sacred time, sacred space or natural world, and with each other. I also will explain about the issues that are critical and then I will give important examples of many religious traditions. The relationship with the divine is power of being or the realm of understanding different religious person’s to be present and to have revolution impact on their lives. Earlier in days man believed that divinity is to help converse away natural occurrences, such as, hurricanes, earthquakes, lunar eclipses, solar and, volcanic eruptions. But however the modern man continues to utilize divinity to push away supernatural phenomena, at which one usually refers to as miracles. I will give an example: a sudden and total recovery from a disaster, life threatening conditions, and surviving a deadly occurrence. In those conditions as a belief of the divine intervention was mainly responsible in taking place and reflection of the truth of the person’s religion. The Relationship with the sacred time defines as life goes on as time goes on. When it comes to sacred time the greater power and divinity breaks through. The eternity is the sacred time that many religions live by. Time has no sacredness of its own, but...

...Elements of Religious Traditions Paper When speaking about religious beliefs, many things can come to your mind and need to be considered. When beginning this topic let’s start off with defining what “religion” means According to "Dictionary" (2013), “it is a set of beliefs usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often have a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs “. By this definition we can say that religion has personal meanings depending on the individual’s beliefs or what they are influenced by. In the following paper elements of religion will be introduced, the relationship with divine will be reviewed followed by the relationship with sacred time, the relationship with scared space, and lastly an examination of how these all relate to each other will be conducted. This paper will also review the critical issues that are presented when studying religion. Relationship with Divine In religious beliefs when speaking about divine the first thing that comes to mind for me is what is called a deity, considered to be supernatural people that are considered being sacred and divine. The meaning of the word divine is “godlike” which makes deities to be perceived as divine because of their supernatural powers individuals believe they have. But not in every religious belief do they have deities’ some beliefs such as; According to Molloy and Hilgers (2010), “The religion Zen Buddhism does not worship a divine being” (Chapter 1). Others such as for example...

Topics such as the relationship with the divine, sacred time, sacred space and or the natural world and with each other will be discussed and scrutinized within this writing. Belief in the Supernatural or “Higher Power” Every religion; in some way, shape, or form believes in a supernatural being or higher power. Some consider this supernatural power to be formless; almost as if to say it cannot be seen. They may even have a sacred space or time for which the divine power exists or began. They believe that this unseen power influences every aspect of human life; from the way we raise our children to our morality in deciphering between what is right and wrong. Religious Traditions all Together Religious traditions are practices within religions that are passed down from generation to generation amongst others of any one religion. Different religious traditions such as the last supper (breaking bread and drinking wine in representation to Jesus’ flesh and blood) or Easter (the day that Jesus raised from the grave) all represent traditions that correlate with and complement each other to reinforce Christian beliefs (Bible Gateway, 2011).
