Eliezer Wiesel is a twelve year old Jewish boy who lives in the town of Sighet. He is a part of an important family in his town since his father deals with many community affairs. There were four children in his family. Hilda, Bea, Eliezer, the only son; and Tzipora. They all live with their mother Sarah Feig and esteemed father Shlomo. Eliezer is focused on his Jewish studies and has chosen a Beadle named Moishe. He and Moishe develop a spiritual relationship based on their views on the sacred word and the relationship between God and the human race. But one day Moishe was taken away.
Hungarian police were forcing all foreign Jews into cattle cars, and Moishe was one of them. The train began to drive away and the Jews began their silent cry. …show more content…
Their daily routine includes: roll calls, small rations of soup and bread, and many encounters of death of those around them. They are forced to pass medical exams to prove themselves healthy enough to stay in the work force. However, with the lack of nutrients and abuse encounters this is not an easy task. Eliezer was whipped until the point of blacking out, witnessed his father’s striking, and is forced to agree to have his gold crown extracted. He along with many other prisoners are forced to work in the cruelty of the cold. He soon notices his foot beginning to swell and is forced to have an operation on it to avoid losing it. However, shortly after the operation he and the other inmates are forced to leave the camp. Not only are they forced to leave, but they are forced to run out of it. While running out of it, many could not take the cold of the snow or the distance of the run. These people were shot by the officers forcing them to run or trampled to death.
