Empowerment, Accountability, and Responsibility

My understanding of Empowerment is giving someone the power to handle, not “problems” but deal with situations that may arise while you’re not there. Accountability is being held for ones actions, owning up or taking full responsibility before you act upon. Responsibility is given to everyone in some shape or form no matter, if you’re a student or CEO of a big corporation; we are all responsible for ourselves along with our actions. Where I work at Kingswood Golf Club, I own the Pro Shop and manage my staff inside the shop along with outside operations which include all the cart personnel. I myself inherit all three of these traits, not only do I hold myself to a high level of expectancy but I also hold my staff to the highest degree that they all deliver excellence everyday they come to work. I’m held accountable by the General Manager, and she expects me to run a golf shop that is comparable if not better than any other around. I am expected to keep the shelves stocked with new merchandise throughout the golfing season and accordance with the time of year it is. I am also expected to run the best damn golf outings in town for our members along with the public, so that membership stays up and outings return the following year. The General Manager also empowers me to make decisions on a minutes notice whether it is about a reception following a tournament where I have to step on the toes of the food and beverage manager and use my judgment because I think something should be different. This trust is given to me because the general manager knows what type of person I am when it comes to managing at the golf course. I also instill these responsibilities into my staff, not all of them but I have a right hand man in which I trust to make judgment calls when I am not available. He knows that

In the American Heritage College dictionary fourth edition, it is a noun of the word “empower”, they describe it as “1.to invest with power esp. legal power or official authority, and 2.
