...Worldview Essay Theology 104 Introduction: A foundational aspect of the Christian faith is the belief that humanity is created in the image of God. Only three times is the term “image of God” found within the Bible. Genesis 1:26-27 and Genesis 9:6 both speak of man being created in the “image of God”. Jesus is also referenced as the image of God in 2 Corinthians 4:4. We can assume that the scriptures contained in Genesis refer to how man reflects God’s character. The image of God in man gives us the ability to discern morally. Some of God’s characteristics are; He is good, faithful, loving, merciful, patient, and wise. Being created in his image gives us these characteristics. Example 1: At my current place of employment I do my best to be a reflection of God’s character. One way that I live out being created in the image of God is by being a faithful and honest employee. I work in an environment where it is easy to perform at the status quo or slightly below that. Theft of merchandise is also a problem that affects everyone at my workplace. “You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another” Leviticus 19:11. Many of my coworkers do just enough to get by with no real interest in helping anyone but themselves. I do my best to always show up on time, do more than is expected of me, and most importantly, have a positive attitude while doing it. One of God’s characteristics is that he is patient. I do my best to be...

...Jeremiah may have been related to the deuteronomic authors or some may say he may been one of the deuteronomic authors. Certainly his message was close to the deuteronomic writing. Jeremiah was born in a priestly family from a town near Jerusalem, around year 650BC, about 100 years after the prophet Isaiah. God had blessed him and God called him when he was very little. Jeremiah followed God’s way and was faithful to God. He lived his life in turmoil because he was witnessing the Israelites acting out their unfaithfulness to God. Jeremiah was called by God to be his prophet to Judah and to the nations in the mist of Judah’s political convulsions : - (687-642), the political dependence of the Assyria brought on an resurgence of idolatry in the form of a syncretist fusion of the Mesopotamian astral gods and the Canaamite fertility deities. - The religious and political situation persisted until 622-621 when the Book of the Law was discovered in the Temple, Josiah led a thorough reform in Judah, which he extended to northern Israel. The people of who had been faithful the Yahwistic covenant did really supported the King. This glorious reign came to end in 609BC after the king’s death. - (609-598) Under Jehoiakim the religious syncretism revived in Judah. Jerusalem first down fall occurred in 597 with Judah’s first deportation. - The new king, Zedekiah, after the exile of prior king, Jehoiachin, was caught between two parties and policies. In 587, Jerusalem was sacked...

...Case Assignment #1 – Accounting Fraud at WorldCom 1. Discuss the fraud at WorldCom in terms of the objective of financial reporting. How was the objective subverted by the actions taken by the managers of WorldCom? A. To begin, the primary objective of financial reporting for most companies is to provide useful information to capital providers. Essentially, the objective is “to assist in the efficient functioning of economies and the efficient allocation of resources in capital markets” (pg. 21, textbook). However, in the fraud case at WorldCom, WorldCom’s senior managers did not endorse this objective nor made any attempt to provide useful financial information to present and potential equity investors, lenders, and other creditors. Why? The senior managers subverted these objectives by focusing on revenue growth, seen as the key to increasing the company’s market value. Now although this focus is encouraged, WorldCom, as one manager says, “encouraged managers to spend whatever was necessary to bring revenue to the door, even if it meant that the long term costs of a project outweighed short term gains” (Accounting Fraud at WorldCom article, pg. 4). Therefore, CFO Sullivan and others subverted the objectives of providing useful information to external users by using accounting entries to achieve targeted performance. 2. The fraud at WorldCom revolved around two accounting irregularities: accrual releases and expense capitalization. a. Explain how these...

...Old Testament Class The purpose of this report is to provide the reader with key concepts, insight, and facts about the book of Isaiah itself. By doing so, this report strives to show how the book of Isaiah could be applied to the daily life of faithful followers then, (in the past), and how it can continue to be applied to the daily lives of faithful followers today. The first order of business is to cover a little background about the book of Isaiah and some noteworthy facts about it. According to the introduction of subject book found on page 683 of the English Standard Version Bible Copyright 2001, Isaiah was a prophet who prophesied about 740 – 700 B.C. He came into the picture during a period in which Israel had fallen on hard times and when they were subject to the iron-handed rule of the Assyrian Empire. Isaiah relayed God’s words to his people whom he often described as being deaf and blind such as in Chapter 6 verse 10. The Israelites earned themselves this descriptive label because they failed to heed to Isaiah’s warnings of bad things yet to come as judgment from God for the sin of the people of Judah. However, Isaiah also proclaimed a message of hope and foretold of how the unwavering faithfulness of God would use Cyrus the Persian to defeat the Assyrians and also release the captured Israelites back to their homeland that they had been exiled from. Isaiah is also one of the first prophets to speak of the Messiah with various descriptions...

...The following are the gates noted in Nehemiah chapter three. Each gate from the Jerusalem wall mentioned by Nehemiah is unique and has a specific message about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. These messages are vivid and clear in our day just as they were in 445 BC and prior. These gates were used by God to reveal the coming Messiah to the Jews of that day. They reveal Him from His first coming sacrifice to His Second Coming and final judgment of man and Angels. It is fascinating how God finds many different ways to tell the message of Christ, the good news. This is one more. Praise be to God the Father who desires salvation for all. 1 Tim 2:4 The Sheep Gate (v. 1-2) Reminds us of the sacrifice of Christ on the cross (John 10). This was the first gate repaired, for without the sacrifice, there is no salvation. Note that the sheep gate had no locks or bars, for the door of salvation is ever open to the sinner. This is the only gate that was sanctified, setting it apart as a special gate. They sanctified it—As they began with the sacred offering as soon as they got an altar built, it was proper that the gate by which these sacrifices entered should be consecrated for this purpose, i. e., set apart, so that it should be for this use only. The Fish Gate (v. 3-5) Reminds us of soul-winning, being “fishers of men” (Mark 1:17). The Old Gate (v. 6-12) Speaks of the old paths and the old truths of the Word of God (Jer. 6:16 and 18:15). The people of the world...

...BIBLE DICTIONARY PROJECT Alonzo Anderson Bible 104 BIBLE DICTIONARY PROJECT Jesus Jesus was born December 25 1 BC in the city David, Bethlehem, to parents Mary and Joseph according to scripture he had four younger brothers and at least two sisters. (Mark 6:3) Jesus was raised in the small rural town of Nazareth, where His adoptive father, Joseph, taught him to use the tools of a carpenter. It was hard work, work requiring much manual labor, skill, an eye for construction and body that could bear up to hours of sweating in the hot sun. It produced hands made coarse from touching rough wood. For many years Jesus worked in the trade of being a carpenter. ("Who Is This Man Jesus?") When Jesus was age 30 he went out to find John the Baptist, John refused to baptize Jesus saying he was unworthy to touch the Son of God. In his thirties, Jesus began his public teaching and display of recorded miracles, yet still never travelled more than 200 miles from his birthplace. Over a three year period, despite his efforts to keep a low profile, Jesus' reputation spread nationwide. The Roman governors and rulers of Israel's provinces and the leaders of the Jewish people (the religious counsels) took note of him. (Jesus Central, 2009) On a Thursday night Jesus met with his twelve disciples in Jerusalem for the Passover meal (The Last Supper). Jesus told his disciples that he must die soon because it was Gods will that he give his life for his friends. Later that night while Jesus was...

...Haleigh Dardar The Heroic Mother "She combined womanly emotion with manly courage and spoke words of encouragement." Have you ever had someone close to you die? Have you ever witnessed death? The quote above is from 2 Maccabees 7, this passage is about a mother who has to endure the pain of watching all seven of her sons die before her a gruesome death. Then she is killed herself. This is in a time where they have a king, who believes in the Pagan Gods. And then there are the defiant Jews, who believe in one God and refuse to follow in the footsteps of the king and instead stay in Moses'. This particular passage is about an audacious family who chooses to watch each other get tortured instead of just simply listening to the king. There is one part where the king tries to persuade the mother to get her last son to spare his own life, but she refuses. Here's two insights that you can take from this story. Nothing can defeat faith. No matter what you are put through or what happens God is all-seeing and for each person He will make it right in the afterlife. Why is this mother so unique and important, we don't even know her name? She not only watched her sons get maimed but she encouraged them to stay strong, brave, courageous, etc. all the while believing that God is good and would save them. Imagine the obstacles this poor mother had to overcome. She watched her sons tongues get cut out, their heads got scalped, their hands and feet were chopped off, and then they were...

...Corinth, the Lord came to Paul one night in a vision with the message, “Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man will attach you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city.” Paul’s response was to preach and teach the word of God among the Corinthians for a year and six months and many who heard believed and were baptized (Acts 18:1-11). On another occasion, the Lord appeared to Paul when he fell into a trance while praying telling him that his testimony about Jesus would not be accepted and that he should leave quickly and go far away to preach the Good News to the Gentiles (Acts 22: 17-18, 21). In Acts 23:11, the Lord stood at Paul’s side speaking words of encouragement and purpose in a time of great danger. Although the exact circumstances are unknown, Scripture also reveals that Paul implored the Lord three times for relief of his “thorn in the flesh” with Jesus answering, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness” (2 Cor....

...Have you ever been in a situation where your boss asked you to shape up or ship out? Most people might agree that this expression is viewed in a negative light and is an indicator that the employee is not performing well at his/her job. However, there are cases where job performance is impeded by conflicting values between employers and employees. Likewise, because values are the foundation for which individuals govern themselves, a conflict in values between individuals and organization/interpersonal business protocols could pose a huge threat to the overall effectiveness of the organization. With this in mind, what do you do if your personal values are in conflict with organization and/or interpersonal business protocols? Mary Gentile, author of “Giving Voice to Values: How to Speak Your Mind When You Know What’s Right,” offers several solutions to this problem. Before confronting the issues of conflicting values, it can be assumed that most people have a set of core values also known as universal values. Mary Gentile supports this concept and provides that there are “lots of talk about different cultures, but even across cultures there is a list of core values”(Simon, 2010). When conflict of values between an individual and a company arise, Gentile suggested that the individual can leave the company, do what is asked, or find a way to change the problems within the organization. When I consider the solutions that she presents in her book, it seems apparent that these...

...letter to the Thessalonians, he preached and taught about three weeks, almost every major doctrine of the Christian faith. Although Paul’s visit to Thessalonica was short, his ministry was long enough to leave a solid foundation for a thriving church. After leaving and going to Athens, Paul leaves Timothy and Silvanus behind to help the new church by way of encouragement. The church was faced with persecution, however persecution can mean growth. God’s spirit strengthens and encourages suffering saints as they go through the difficulties of Christian life. Timothy rejoined Paul at Corinth and gave him the report on the new church. A short time afterward, Paul writes II Thessalonians and began to thank God for the tenacity of this church and it’s determination to grow in faith. Paul considered this church his friend. After hearing of the progress of this tenacious church and their growth and love toward each other, Paul couldn’t help but praise God for their accomplishment. So then, Paul realized first, a growing church is a faithful church, and that this church would go through much persecution. Therefore much encouragement would be necessary. Their faith was growing beyond all natural expectation. Faith without works is dead; the spirit of God was at work in the lives of these believers. Growth is a process, before a baby can become a man, he first must go through the process of being a man, he has all the members of a man, but he must go through the process of being developed...
