...Class of 2016, Congratulations, we've made it! Today is our first, “big first”, our step in the real world, adulthood, and that time when all the dreaded college loan debt comes back to haunt us. It seems like just yesterday, we were starting the best adventure of our lives. Now, as we sit here pondering how to pay that debt and thinking about what the future has in store, I can’t help but be proud that we have made it. Having survived the core, our exams, essays, endless nights up studying, the miserable hangovers, and the shots fired on State St., I think we all should be proud to have made it here in one piece. In all seriousness, today is a milestone for each us as well as our families, and it is to our loved ones that we owe our deepest thanks. I think I can speak for most of us here ready to receive our diplomas, that we would not be here if it wasn’t for the endless support we had every step of the way, the shoulders we had to lean on when things got rough, and the days we thought we couldn’t make it, but we did with a quick pep talk... or a shot or two of tequila. After today, we leave the protection of the College, the community of our friends, roommates, and teachers, to find and forge new communities of our own. I want to spend our final moments together reflecting on the distinctive kind of education that has shaped the way in which we think about the opportunities and challenges we have faced. AIC prides itself on dedication, intellectual and personal...

...OUROBOROS DJD5-assesment 2 By Raegan Bregmen Student id: s2014000042 Introduction This essay is about Ouroboros .i will be researching multiple various cultures that I’ll be searching into trying to find its relevance for today’s age and the impact it has on todays stone carving culture. What is Ouroboros? The Ouroboros is a greek work for tail devourer and is one of the oldest mystical symbols in the world. This symbolises the cyclic nature of the universe; creation out of destruction, life out of death. It unites opposite; the conscious mind. What does Ouroborus Mean? -Self reflexivity – the represents something constantly recreating itself -Cyclicality – it reoccurs or revolves in cycles -Primordial unity – this represents something with great force and qualities that can’t be extinguished -Death-rebirth – represents him eating himself, impregnation himself and giving birth to himself -The eternal return – this represent them returning to life as soon as they pass on -Re-creating itself – represents death then rebuilding yourself -Harmony of opposites - to make everything exist in balance and harmony. The above are two different versions of the term ouroboros On this page I have tried to include some information about the history and my understanding of the meaning of the ouroboros The circular natured form represents death and life of each life born. The head of the serpent symbolises life and the rear end of the body represents the end of life. In some...

...the basic necessities required for them to survive, there is one thing the Dani people do all day, every day, and that is fight. Some have called the endless battles in which the different Dani tribes participate a war, but it is not. What the Dani have would be considered a feud, or a never-ending stream of revenge killings. The Marine Corps defines war as “A violent clash of interests between or among organized groups characterized by the use of military force,” and continues to define the essence of war as “A violent struggle between two hostile, independent, and irreconcilable wills, each trying to impose itself on another.” In the case of the Dani, their battles are occurring purely for revenge, either for the death of a fellow Dani in a previous battle, or the death of one in a raid on a village or settlement. Thus neither side is trying to push their beliefs or way of life onto one another. A feud is defined as “A state of prolonged mutual hostility, typically between two families or communities, characterized by murderous assaults in revenge for previous injuries.” This spells out what occurs between the Dani tribes to a T. Each battle occurs entirely because in a previous battle someone was wounded or killed. In conclusion, the frequent, and almost daily battles that take place within the Baliem Valley is not war, or warfare. It is a simple feud, one that takes place out of a want for revenge as much as a increased level of...

...My word, what a program Capital Talk of 3rd October proved to be, guests included Imran Khan (PTI), Marie Ann Wright (US former diplomat) and Lauren Booth (Britsh journalist). The show was hosted by Hamid Mir and its agenda was to talk on the issue of Drone attacks and Waziristan Peace March. Hamid Mir proved to be comparatively better anchor than other hosts such as Sana Bucha, Asma Shirazi and Javed Chaudhary, etc. He was moving on with questions instead of asking same questions repeatedly. Biggest surprise for me were responses given by the two foreign guests; they seemed to be more Pakistani than any so-called anchor, analyst, or politician from PPP, PMLN, MQM and ANP etc., kudos to them for speaking out truth with courage and audacity. Imran Khan, as usual, was solid in his responses and clear on his stances. He did not budge even for a moment when he declared that once the proper voice has been raised in front of United States and within United Nations against the use of Drones in Pakistan, he will order the PAF to shoot down any invading aircraft that violates the sovereignty of Pakistan’s by entering its air space. This is a normal procedure followed by all countries as per UN charter. Marie Ann and Lauren Booth supported Khan in this, though Ann hoped that it will not come to this. Furthermore, the foreign guests confirmed what most neutral, honest and patriotic analysts in Pakistan have been stating continuously, according to them the media abroad is being used...

...Imagine, a small child, born and raised in a country of conflict, holding a fully automatic rifle, ready to fight in war, this is a picture of a child soldier. The media does not show you the real news of innocent children fighting for their lives to survive and elude the conflict for a better life and future. The silence of the people continues to support the serious issue, passively letting it happen to vulnerable children who are in need of care and help. Children are forced by their leaders/commanders to do the unimaginable such as killing innocent civilians, other children, and even their families, scarring them for life. These young soldiers are deprived from a normal childhood and education as most children have in today's society. Many...

He was cold as piercing ice, his hands trembled and his heart stopped. Instanitous flashbacks of his brother teaching him how to defend himself haunted him as he stared at his lifeless body. Then the firing continued close to him at another platoon of marines. He knew he could not leave his blood in the hell that was war no, he would return him back home where he belongs. “Over here!” said the marine from across the street as the machine gunner kept firing endless round into the sand. “Were comin to get you, are you hurt!” The sniper knew he was tough enough he could survive anything he would...

...Blue Ocean Strategy Brigetta Bailey MKT/421 January 26, 2015 Shannon Peterson Blue Ocean Strategy An old wives tale states, “there’s nothing new under sun” and some would believe that to be true. However authors W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne proved that theory wrong, with the development of the blue ocean strategy, which was adopted by corporations in different industries. Nintendo’s one company that utilized the blue ocean strategy to pull their company out of the red ocean, which is the gaming industry. Today’s analysis will discuss, competition, differentiation, and the four action framework, which is the basis of the strategy. In addition the analysis will look at pros and cons and relevance. Competition & Differentiation Authors W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne wrote Blue Ocean Strategy in 2005. Their research encompassed over 150 strategic moves, utilized for the past 100 years, and spanning over 30 industries. (Brooks, 2013). The book dispels the notion that one must outdo its competitors to achieve success in the market in which it operates. Three main areas are covered in length, with the first being competition. The authors argue corporations will not achieve success battling competitors, who when examined operate and likely offer similar products and services. One cannot outperform its competitor and therefore must adopt a different mindset. One where the firm itself becomes its own competitor, by creating new market space. When firms create...

...Morality of War Nicholas S. Chavez University of Phoenix Introduction War has been around since the beginning of time; and the causes always differ from the last. Many questions arise in a society because of it, such as death, casualties due to involvement, the overall outcome projected, etc. The most highly debatable topic pertaining to any war that those causes play a factor in is whether it is justified or not. Sacrifices are made overseas as well as on the home front with the families of the men and women giving their lives for their country. In turn, those sacrifices can make those families believe their loss could have been for an unjust cause, making it difficult for war to be supported. On the other hand, there are sacrifices in a war taking place today, and have in the past that families and the ones fighting see as justifiable. To determine the justifiability of war, one must consider all sides and all factors, as well as their effect on the overall society. Sacrifices Made When a loved one is deployed overseas to defend his/her country, all that can get them through, is knowing that their family is waiting for them and hoping and praying that nothing happens to them. The death of a loved one, which many fortunate people, don’t have to experience, is extremely hard on a family and delivers a crushing blow which can cause anyone to break down. When a family member passes away from being sent overseas, it can take a toll on how someone feels about a war and if...

...to cope with life’s tragedies? Religion in some ways gives us the answers to the ‘why ‘questions for instance, like death. First of all I do understand what message he was trying to spread. I feel that message he was trying to send to us, was for us to imagine a place where things like religion and countries for instance did not exist. He felt this would make a better place for all of us to live in peace.”Imagine all the people Living life in people” (Lennon, “Imagine”) I can relate with this statement. I remember when this song came out in the early 70’s. Times were tough during those years; the Vietnam War was still going on so there probably was a bit of a political message being sent as well. Either way I think the true message he was to trying to bring was for the world to come together as one. This to me is a great message, but I don’t think realistically the wars would stop because there was no religion. We have far too many issues in the world to think that having with no religion and living as one country would solve all of our problems....

...War and Capitalism violation of Human Rights Capitalism is a form of government that promotes globalization, in it thoughts is Support the Military Industrial Complex, this term is related with government, Economy, army and war; most of the people think that this ideal develop peace And make all the countries that are in way of development or just not develop Better, but no, none of the thing is how they tell, sell or advertise. There are so Many Cases that shows all the madness and contradictory purposes that Powerful Countries are doing just for their country profit and government Interest. One example of the advantage that some countries take in military army is the Human shield, in most of the cases they use child to carry out target purposes, They use civilians to avoid combats attacks; this is a clear representation of Violation of human rights, this technique was start to be used in the II world War, but nowadays is also used in some conflicts like in Afghanistan, Israel- Palestinian, Iran, Syrian, Libyan and other countries on war, they use children as A shield, these children are considering soldier children. There are a lot of Civilians dyeing in this conflicts because of the arms and weapons that the Military industrial complex provides, and this king of deal between countries is Costing human lives and most of them are children. Another issue related to this topic, is the ideal of capitalism...

...“Competition is now a war of movement on which success depends on anticipation of market trends and quick response to changing customer needs....Therefore, the essence of strategy is not the structure of companies products and markets but the dynamics of it's behavior.” (Stalk, Evans and Schulman 1992, Harvard Business Review.) Explain this statement, using a company of your choice, in terms of what the above authors termed 'capability based competition', Use the 'capability based competition' concept to identify how the company of your choice can either maintain and grow their successfulness or become successful in the long term. The market place is an ever changing place. Companies have to be quick on their feet and innovative to maintain and keep up with the shifting market trends. They must be able to cater for customer needs, foresee and predict upcoming changes in customer wants and do all this in the long run rather than the short term. This is why it is important to put emphasis on the companies manners and conduct rather than the make-up of companies products and services. In essence that is what Stalk, Evans and Schulman are trying to convey when they say “Competition is now a war of movement on which success depends on anticipation of market trends and quick response to changing customer trends....Therefore, the essence of strategy is not the structure of companies products and markets but the dynamics of its behavior.” The distinctive competence of a firm refers...

...Video games, amongst other forms of media, are being blamed for the violent actions of children and adolescence. “Movies and television entertain with realistic and bloody dramatizations of murders, beatings and tortures. Warlike video games have become a popular part of culture, and children routinely watch cartoons that depict violent events” (Earles, Alexander, & Johnson, 2002). The controversy and debate argues whether or not this claim is true. One side of the claim states that video games are genera lly harmless, a popular form of entertainment enjoyed by individuals of varied ages and origi ns. Regardless the popularity or the nature of the game, the individuals playing the game should understand that it is a fictitious scenario and should be treated as such. In addition, cens orship ratings have helped identify the appropriate audience for each individual game but as is the case with cigarettes and alcohol, it is not always adhered. Opposition claims state the cruel and bloody dramatizations have instilled images that have affected the minds of children. These effects have influence children to act violently often reenacting scenes and scenarios from certain video games. In addition, supplemental claims state that the lack of parental supervision and presence adds to the extremity of the violent acts. In terms of research analysis, quantitative statistics claims, “Youth violence results in considerable physical, emotional, social, and...

...“Compare how Vera Brittain and JG Ballad present the theme of ‘WAR’ in Testament of youth and Empire of the Sun” Both the novel and the memoir are set during a war that disrupts the main characters life in a way that allows the reader to experience the raw brutality of war, whether that is physical or emotional. Testament of Youth (ToY) is set in WWI and Empire of the Sun (EotS) in WWII, the 27 year gap between the wars meant there were technological differences such as communication, aircraft and weapon advances. These factors highlight that the later war would have been more sophisticated in both ground and air defence/fighting techniques. This could possibly be why both characters envision the war differently, although there are other factors such as gender, geographical location and political positioning to consider. Ballad writes in a 3rd person emotionally detached manner whereas Brittain’s first person perspective allows us to empathise with her situation. The extracts I will be using to explore the way in which war affects the thoughts and feelings of each protagonist are page 30-33 from EotS where on the eve of pearl harbour Jim investigates Hungjao aerodrome and comes across an old fighter plane. This is when we see his fascination with warfare technology. I will compare it to pages 67-72, chapter 8, in ToY when Vera sees her future fiancé, Roland, receive his awards on speech day at her brothers school and both Roland and her brother are appropriately attired in...

...I. Introduction: a. Opening Device- There are a few words that just don’t belong together such as Child Soldiers. Every child has the right to live a normal life, grow up an experience the things kids are supposed to, like, going to school, playing kick ball outside, enjoying the company of friends and developing in a normal way both physically and mentally. However, not all children get to have this simple luxury that many take for granted. Child Soldiers are a fast growing problem in third world countries and need to be stopped. It’s horrible to think that a child’s life can be devastated and ripped apart by a war that they had no part in starting, but they are forced to fight in combat anyway, causing life long lasting psychological and physical damage. b. Thesis: Worldwide, tens of thousands of children ranging from the young age 6-19 are recruited into government organizations and a variety or armed groups. These children are robbed of the chance to have a normal childhood but in exchange are exposed to horrendous hazards and are psychologically and physically scarred for life and suffer a tremendous amount abuse. c. Preview: In this speech I will explain what a Child Solider is, the normal development of a child and how the development of a child is impacted when they become a child solider. II. Body: d.
