Sample Student Essay – Body Paragraphs [BODY PARAGRAPH 1] To start, my first reason to attend college is for me to be more social. [TOPIC SENTENCE] For instance, it can be a time where students can venture out and meet new people. Additionally, enrolling in a degree program, online or on-campus, can provide you with a great opportunity to build strong friendships and personal connections. In today's highly segmented society, the common bond of a degree program can help you develop social networks that you never knew existed. Developing intermediate connections will not only help with my personal life but with my professional one as well. [SUPPORTING SENTENCES] Accordingly, the staff and alumni at Staryer University aid in finding employment through social media, groups, and events. [CONCLUDING SENTENCE] [BODY PARAGRAPH 2] Another reason I decided to start college was to fulfill my educational goals. [TOPIC SENTENCE] I’m finally able to obtain my MBA and start a position within finance management. I was ready to start this program now so I will have time to perform other interest. After I graduated high school I made the decision to not go to college, since my mom needed help, and start working. I have thought about this for years and it’s a personal goal I want to accomplish. I know that when I finish getting my degree I will have many more job opportunities than I have now. This might also influence other members of my family or friends who have had a lifelong dream of attending a university too but haven’t taken that first step yet. [SUPPORTING SENTENCES] In essence, I want to be a positive role model for all my uneducated friends. [CONCLUDING SENTENCE] [BODY PARAGRAPH 3] The last reason I chose to come back to school is to occupy my mind. [TOPIC SENTENCE] Furthering my education will heighten the abilities of my apprehension. My unoccupied mind was starting to become a little destructive and very bored. When I’m bored it means I have time to think and I’m not working. It became apparent that I have A.D.D. and it was not discovered until after I graduated high school. [SUPPORTING SENTENCES] As long as I can take a variety of subjects in college it will help to maintain myself and ease my anxiety. [CONCLUDING SENTENCE]

A Brighter Future

...Assignment #6: “A Brighter Future” Draft Essay Chelsea Manzanares ENG 090- Writing Fundamentals Brinda Surendar June 3, 2014 A Brighter Future Draft When I was younger, and was in high school, I did not see school as important as it is for me now. I just saw school as a place to go and hang out with friends, and have a good time. Which meant only doing my homework and school work as mediocre as possible. Everything to get it out of the way and to at least get a passing grade. and now I realize that school is the key to a brighter future I now want to be a role model to my nieces, make my future more successful and most importantly to make my parents proud To begin with, my oldest niece is always looking up to me, and says one day she wants to grow up and be like me. it’s a big responsibility that I have on top of me. I would not want her to take school for granted. My niece wants to do her hair like me; she wants to dress like me. For that same reason, I want her to see that school is important to me. Second, I want my future to be successful. Currently I'm not working, because I decided to go full-time to school. While I was working; I didn’t not like the salary, nor the hours, or the place I was standing at the moment. I didn’t see myself going anywhere it was a dead end. I knew if I didn’t get a degree I wouldn’t be able to see a brighter future. The most important reason to why I started college now is to make my parents proud. Unfortunately my...

Child Abuse

...Assignment 6: Final Essay Laquette Dunn Dr. Shimelis Frew ENG 090 (Writing Fundamentals) December 12, 2012 What happens after a child is abused? Child abuse is defined as any form of physical, sexual, or emotional mistreatment or neglect of children and therefore resulting in a child suffering from various detrimental effects. Child abuse includes four major categories: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. Physical abuse is the most easily detected form of abuse and involves injuries located on the outside of a child’s body. A form of abuse that many people are unaware of is child neglect. However, in 2009 78.3% of child abuse comes from child neglect. This makes child neglect the most common form of abuse Child neglect occurs when a parent/guardian has failed at providing a child with the basic necessities of life, such as shelter, food, clothing, and supervision of an extended period. The consequences if child abuse varies according to the situation, individual, and the form of abuse suffered from. Some of the most common consequences of child abuse and neglect are physical, behavioral, and psychological (Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2008). Victims of child abuse and neglect can suffer from one consequence or a combination of them all. First, physical consequence is one of the many consequences of child abuse. The physical consequences of child abuse can range from minor injuries (bruises or cuts) to near death experiences (broken...

Opportunity Can Knock Twice

...Week 10 Assignment #6: “OPPORTUNITY CAN KNOCK TWICE” Michael Ellis ENG 090- Writing Fundamentals Joan Hazzard, MA English Jun 16, 2015 As a Retired Veteran with a distinguish career and living the American Dream, I am now an un-employed husband and a father of a 33 months old son. In May 2013, I moved from Middle Georgia to South Florida for better living and a good way of life for my new family. For over five and a half years, I was working for a major corporation that got their business from the Federal Government contracts by bidding and performing needed services at different locations around the world. Because of government cuts in Sept 2013, I lost my position due to the company's Workforce Reduction Policy and I became unemployed. Luckily, I had saved up a few month’s pay and the company gave me a severance package. From the time I received my official notice letter, I had been applying for different types of Information Technology jobs in the Miami area, attending job fairs, and attending interviews and it all comes down to... "I see you have a lot of experience in the IT field, but do you have this degree and certain certifications that’s required for this position?" I have to say no, but I am working to obtain the current certifications and attending classes toward my degree. Later, you get an email or a follow up call informing you of their non-selection for the position due to whatever reason or justification to fit their needs. Like any other man without...

Forging My Future Through Higher Education

...Assignment #4: Forging my Future through Higher Education By: Jose A. Algarin ENG 090- Writing Fundamentals Professor Dr. Zackory Kirk February 5, 2015 Imagine this: a young man from Hartford, Connecticut sits at the kitchen table and tries to work on his English homework. His brothers are consistently running around, and his mother is trying to cook dinner. His Dad is a construction worker, who is constantly working 12-15 hours a day, and he wonders if he will even make it through 4 years of high school with all these distractions. That young man was me. Thankfully, I did make it through high school, but after serving my country for 6 years I had not thought of attaining a higher education. I have chosen to change my life by attending Stayer University because it will allow me to earn a degree in my field of study, and make my parents proud of my accomplishment. Also this will help stabilize me, financially, emotionally, and mentally. Attending Strayer University is definitely a dream come true. Never had I thought about higher education after six years of service in the United States Army to this great country. Honestly the first thing I thought about after I left the Army was going straight to work since I knew I already had the experience in the HR Field. Well, I was wrong. It was extremely difficult to find a job that suited me, but since I did not have a degree in that field of study it made it harder for myself. Eventually I just decided to...

Singapore 09-10

...singapore airlines annual report 2009/2010 Singapore Airlines achieved a net profit attributable to equity holders of S$216 million for the financial year ended 31 March 2010. During the first half of the year, demand for air travel declined due to the global economic slowdown as well as the outbreak of Influenza A (H1N1). The Group recorded a net loss attributable to equity holders of S$466 million for the first half of the financial year. Despite the difficult times, the Airline did not lose sight of its commitment to delivering product and service innovation. Singapore Airlines continued to invest in its long-term future by flying its flagship aircraft, the Airbus A380, to more destinations, rolling out a cabin renewal programme for selected Boeing 777 aircraft, and opening a new service centre in the heart of Singapore’s premier shopping belt. Market conditions gradually improved in the second half of the financial year. Reflecting this, the Airline recorded higher passenger and cargo traffic. Together with the S$404 million net profit in the third quarter, the fourth quarter net profit of S$278 million reversed the S$466 million loss recorded in the first half of the financial year. The business outlook for the Group in FY 2010-2011 is encouraging, although the sustainability of the recovery depends on developments in the world economy and on business and consumer confidence. The Airline plans to increase capacity in a measured manner in the new financial year. This...
