In communications 1210, we have learned three very important concepts for having successful communication. These concepts include the single, double, and triple contingencies. The single contingency is the sending and receiving of effective messages. It is their goal to send effective messages to achieve their desired outcome. The double contingency is when people interact and do things together, through cooperation and effective messages. Lastly, the third contingency is when people interact and do things together in a pluralistic social world, which is just a world of compelling interests, social groups, thoughts, beliefs and moralities. (Lecture, week one) The three contingencies are all related because the overall success of communication depends on them.

As stated above, Karl’s communication patterns were generally him being very angry, using a loud tone, sarcasm, screaming, and more times than not, lots of cursing. However, some shootings are caused by the kids you would least expect to do something that bad, because they often keep to themselves. Through my research, I found that most of the shooters have all had thoughts of suicide, anxiety, depression, mental illnesses and felt socially isolated. An observable communication pattern might include subtle hints or warning signs, that no one takes seriously, until it’s too late. That is something that haunts many of my classmates to this day. Karl showed pictures of his new gun the week before he used it on another student, then shortly after, turned it onto himself. He also told students months before December 13th that he had a big surprise that would make us remember him forever. Had those students reported Karl immediately, he would have been looked at a little closer, and the shooting might have never
