These articles “Letting go” and “What adolescents Miss when we let them grow up in Cyberspace” argues how family and cyberspace are strong influences in the growing of children. Basically in “letting go” this article demonstrate about the relation between parents and their kids. Sam Schulman said “So why can't parents today leave their children alone for five minutes? There are probably a number of reasons.” Probably, do parents really want the best for them trying to being communicative with their kids or do they just want to protect them? In “What adolescents Miss when we let them grow up Cyberspace,” the author had mentioned “adolescents are drawn to cyberspace for different reasons than adults.” We can analyze how today adolescents adopted the internet as something important in their lives. The perspective in young people today is that their way to proceed is changing as world is changing, too. The family is considered as the set of people united by kinship , as the basic unit of social organization , the functions and roles are to provide their protection , companionship, security , socialization, and primarily a source of affection Member and emotional support especially for children, who are in the process of development. Before this class I had trouble even understanding how to write a thesis and now I think I can definitely write a college level thesis. I have progressed to know how to incorporate my evidence into my concise and focused thesis statement. For example in the self assessment essay my thesis was, “Due to transferring to many schools over my first two years of college, I feel like I have had the opportunity to build up many habits of mind from Framework for Success in Post-Secondary Writing, especially in flexibility, openness and persistence but still can develop in metacognition and creativity in order to become a more successful college writer.” This showed that I could adapt a thesis to the assignment and it was focused and used my sources. At this point in the semester, a strength I have is the ability to connect source evidence with my thesis. I am able to develop my focused thesis around source-based evidence. For example in the college learning essay I was able to use my interview with my friend who was an elementary teacher to help develop my thesis about how teaching has changed due...

...Youth violence in America is an ongoing discussion that has been in the news for quite some time now. Kids are so easily influenced that it is normal to see them in some type of negativity. This matter causes children in our society to engage into violent crimes in school and in their communities. Some say the reason for this is because lack of attention in the homes or parents just not being available for their children. Are these reasonable excuses and why do our kids act in such violent behavior? For many years we try to get our youth involved into extra-curricular activities to stay out of troubles. Sports teams, educational activities, and tutorials can keep children busy when they are not in school. Many factors are mentioned when the media discuss youth violence including: video game interaction, trouble in our schools, and dysfunctional communities. Parents should be aware of signs that their child can be in danger of either committing a crime or being a victim. Something should be done to convince the kids that trouble is so easy to get into but so hard to get out of. The research will continue to grow in the upcoming years to investigate the youth violence and to find ways to keep our children out of trouble. During the teenage years of a child’s life, they are exposed to quite some violence in the media. The main source is video games. Every child loves to play these fast-paced games that contains three-dimensional graphics. The parents do not know if they are safe...

...The Happiest Place On Earth It’s one of my faintest memories, always heating my father explain how life was so much better for so many reasons, when he was growing up. The way he would explain the trusting communities he once enjoyed playing with his friends made feelings of jealousy arise, longing for something like that in my own reality. Everyday life in Arizona proved vastly different, surrounded by so many people who weren’t from this state. With the lifestyle came my everyday environment, filled with drugs and distrust for the next man I would encounter. Ready for a change and a way out, a geographical change came my way and opened me up to a world I hadn't known existed. I haven’t taken as much gratitude from anything as I have small town, Minnesota because of it’s hospitable people, beautiful surroundings, and delicious foods. Traveling through green-filled, wide open spaces, from one town to the next, I had arrived. Driving into my next home, filled with enough anxiety to kill a horse, was the town of Fairmont, Minnesota. With a population less than most apartment complexes I’d resided, I drove past the first resident of this small community. To absolute shock, I had received a wave of the hand, followed by the next resident flashing a peace sign in my direction. As though this wasn’t enough of a friendly surprise, Freedom was a place I’d refill the car with gasoline. Apart from the wonderful customer service spoken in a Canadian-like accent, I’d been rejected trying...

This can be due to many reasons including a teen’s maturity level. The older a person is, the more mature they tend to be. This is not true for all people because if it were then all driving teenagers would end up in vehicle accidents. Maturity does have a lot to do with it and I feel that if the national driving age would be lifted to 18 years then this country would experience less of these occurrences. I have done much research on the subject of teens and maturity. All of the sources I have read say pretty much the same thing – the different parts of a person’s brain mature at different stages in their life. “The cortex is the part of the brain that controls thinking, decision making, and judgment” (Johnson 51). Compared to adults, most teens and adolescents lack the proper skills to...

...THESIS: There needs to be better laws, and guidelines for questioning and interrogating suspects, to reduce the amount of false confessions which lead to wrongful convictions. BACKGOUND: In the last few years there has been a lot of news coverage of convicted people being found innocent after serving years in prison for crimes they did not commit. It can take several years and many appeals for the false confessor to have their case heard in the court system; if at all. Courts seem to have the tendency to accept the confession at face value and are reluctant to question it. I believe this happens because “law enforcement” took the confession and judges tend to believe that all rules were followed by police. I believe that if the prosecution is going to use a confession in their case, and as one of their strongest pieces of “evidence”, a hearing should be set to decide on the validity of the confession. Even when defense attorneys file motions to have them thrown out due to allegations of coercion, the courts deny the motion almost instantly, which leads to a wrongful conviction. This is the very reason new laws, and guidelines need to be implemented in regards to questioning and interrogating a suspect by police, in order to get a confession. OBJECTIVE: My intention is to show that with stricter laws and guidelines for questioning and interrogating suspects, the amount of false confessions would drop considerably, and in turn the wrongful conviction rate would drop as well...

The Most Important Person in My Life

...ENG101/29 Professor R Gaines ENG101/29 March 10,2013 The most important person in my life. . From the time we are born we are being influenced by those around us, be it a relative, friend, or teacher. We are influenced by their character, traits and form opinions that will last a lifetime. Although influential people have come and gone in my life, my boyfriend, Daniel, has remained the most important and influential person for the past fifteen years. It was in November 2000 when I first met Daniel at the “Stratford Athletic Club.” I attended the club almost every day. One evening a tall gentleman with an athletic body approached me and with a soft-spoken voice proceeded to ask,” How is your workout going?” I turned towards him, looked at his amicable face, and with a barely detectable smile said, “Fine, thank you.” This was the beginning of a most satisfying, educational and enduring relationship. Right after I met him I noticed his amazing organization skills. He is able to stay focused no matter how distracting the situation might be. He simply minimizes the distraction. For example, if he is focusing his attention on writing an important paper, he will ignore the phone when it’s ringing, and will not answer the doorbell. I always had a problem with focusing. Since I started to spend time with Daniel I learn to remained focused on my goals and not to be affected by any adverse elements. Years ago while driving in the center lane...

...Valerie Vasquez Professor Thompson ENG101 January 28, 2015 Reading Response: Spriggs 1. In the essay “On Buying Local” Katherine Spriggs makes it clear that this topic matters to her. She did convince me to start thinking about buying locally, not only did she mention on pg. 96 that it is a healthier and environmental choice, but it also helps small farmers around the valley to grow. 2. A counter argument that Spriggs put in this essay was that the Professor in Wyoming that she mentions in paragraph 10 pg. 98 that if people were to buy locally that would be bad towards people because food can be produced cheaper somewhere else. She fought back with the statement that although it would be more expensive than buying “industrially grown” products that it is also better for the environment to buy locally. 3. In paragraph 8 pg. 96 I like the fact that Spriggs stated that buying locally is eco-friendly and that it would reduce the high cost of fuel and energy used to transport food across the world. That is definitely effective because that will make readers see that she did some research and she knows that it would help in the long run. 4. Sprigg’ photos contributes to the essay because in each paragraph she talks about something different having to do with buying locally. She includes some local farmers’ products and some pictures to show readers a visual perspective in what she is saying and to back up her information....

...TUI University Blanca I. Rivera ENG101 English Composition I 11/17/09 To: Independence Business Owners From: Blanca I. Rivera Subject: Starting a Nightclub business Creating a desirable nightclub in the right location can prove to be both lucrative and satisfying. Although there are inherent risks and short life spans associated with such a business venture, a well thought out plan followed by proper execution will make the difference between a successful business and one that is not so successful. Keeping in mind the important elements that a startup nightclub must take into account, it will be possible to strategically market a nightclub that appeals to the right crowd. It begins with having a nightclub that provides entertainment, either in the form of dance floors and/or live artists such as DJs. Equally important is the ambience that our hypothetical nightclub will have. Designing the right ambiance begins with knowing the kind of people we would like to attract to our nightclub. Given a limited budget, it may be best to market to younger crowds as the startup costs will be less than marketing to a higher income crowd. Finally, finding a great location for the nightclub will require significant research into demographics and potential threats from competitors. Ideally our nightclub will be located in a central place with a high flow of traffic and a safe distance from other...

I’ll be like every black girl trying to make it out the hood. Only 4% made it out thanks to these rich men’s they know but some went on to become lawyers and doctors. I was sitting at the basketball court spinning the ball on the tip of my finger watching a few plays. I went to go shoot a few hoops at the court before I went home to tell my mom the good news I received. I went home to tell her “Mama I got good news I got a full scholarship to FSU! “I’m proud of you baby congrats.” It was the day of graduation I couldn’t wait I was tired of waking up at 7AM. Hawaiian Vacation Research Paper

...ENG101 Lesson 5 In my search for planning a Hawaiian vacation I first took to google.com knowing that I would have a large range of choices. In doing so I found GovisitHawaii.com. I learned that the site is geared towards first time travelers to Hawaii. The site was started by a vacationer who first experience in Hawaii was poorly done by an online travel agency. Her excursions were not only the wrong ones but they were ones that were physically impossible for her to even attempt. Her trips to other islands were also poorly booked. The best that she could say is that the staff, and locals were pleasant most of the time. While expressing her unbiased position she gives advice, not direction or recommendations. But site the allows for travelers to post their pictures, experiences and recommendations. I used US Major Dailies in search of more sources of a Hawaiian vacation. The first thing listed is a great article by Jeremy W Peters. He first describes how he agonized over planning his several days of vacation in Hawaii. Disappointing Moment in My Life

...Naw Hpaw Dr. James Sanders ENG101, 7:00 am 8 June 2016 Disappointing Moment in My Life Having worked three years as coordinator at the Karen Peace Support Initiative (Burma), a non-government organization that helps resettle displaced persons, I firmly believed I could communicate effectively with grass roots people and my superiors. But, sometimes life is full of disappointment. It came on December 11, 2012, as I sat in my office writing a report on training I had recently completed for some villages. Suddenly, in a very loud voice, my manager called me into his office where he was checking a report I had given him previously. As I stood beside him, his hand clutched a cup of coffee, while the other held my report. I remember the black jacket and shoes, and glasses, he was wearing. After several minutes, he put my report down and exchanged the coffee cup for a bowl of noodle soup. I thought he would explain why he called me, but he said nothing. It became very embarrassing just standing there. Minutes passed and still he didn't speak. Frustrated, I spoke to him politely as possible and asked if there was anything I could do or comment I could make. No response. As I stood close alongside, it became more difficult to smile. In fact, he began to frighten me, and his strange grin unnerved me, even as he kept eating his noodle soup. It was scary and very embarrassing. Finally, he spoke. "I need your wholehearted support in carrying out our project," he said, to which I replied...
