...Name: Quoc Le Class: Seminar 125 2nd draft in class writing. The Complete Persepolis is a story about how to fight for freedom in Iran. As a young generation and growing up in the modern family, Marjane Strapi shares her experience about her childhood with the time of revolution for freedom. Marjane grew up in French language school in Tehran and her family has high education and modern in its outlook when the Iran revolution happened. In this book, she points out how people were suffering in the society without freedom. She recognized the different social classes exist and suffering in her country. In the “the Complete Persepolis”, Strapi mentions a lot of kind of freedom such as religion, gender, education or political. In my point of view, she makes a good point that the gender and religion problem which is the big problem in society. At the beginning, in the first chapter “The Veil”, Strapi mentions about gender problem by sharing her story about the veil and school. The girls have to wear the veil at school but she does not know the reason. The veil and school become segregated by gender. She said that “we found ourselves veiled and separate from our friend” (Satrapi, 4). They must be separate in different classes if they do not wear the veils. It is kind of discrimination with students. The students are lack of freedom to do in school. They have to follow the rules that women have to cover their head and men cover arm. It is strict and makes student cannot comfortable...

...Trident University Module 5 CA ENG 102 20 June 2011 The effects and benefits of Democracy in China Introduction For Americans, "democracy" is a cherished and familiar word. Proud of their own democratic institutions, most Americans have felt freedom is not free and Democracy takes courage and effort within the whole country. But Democracy does not mean the same concept and advantages to all people everywhere; it changes each time it translates into a different language and cultural context. Democracy (translated into Chinese as " minzhu ," or "people-as-masters") is not a concept inherent in Chinese culture or political philosophy. In fact, it is in complete opposition to their own culture, which stresses harmony and obedience. But neither is democracy a concept that has just recently taken hold in the minds of Chinese youth who have seen the wonders of democracy in Western-style music and food. The Chinese democratic tradition was begun nearly one hundred years before the white plaster statue erected on Tiananmen Square attracted the attention of the world. In those hundred years, it has been the cause of rebellions, arrests, purges, and endless debate on the best way to understand and implement such a complex form of social organization. The power of the word "democracy" worked on Western viewers of the 1989 movement as well. Chinese students knew from experience that describing their struggle as a "democratic" one was the best way to win international...

Although ‘language learning’ is considered less important than language acquisition, most of what is learned has been coming from the formal teaching in school. It is also said that the acquisition of grammatical structures follows a ‘natural order’ which is predictable. For a given language, some grammatical structures tend to be acquired early while others late. It can be derived that language learning could also be predictable and that grammatical structures...

...Dennis Nivar ENG102-L11 Extra Credit February 3, 2014 Dear Maggie, I am writing this letter to thank you and Momma for allowing Hakim and I to visit the both of you back home. Also thank Momma for the delicious food, and for making Hakim and I feel so welcomed. It was great to go back home after so many years and to see the both of you guys are doing great. Maggie, I also wanted to tell you that I have done a lot of thinking after the visit. I deeply apologize for the way I have acted towards you and Momma, and I was wrong. I apologize not just for my recent visit, but for everything that has happened in the past. I know I have never been the best daughter or sister but there is no excuse for my actions. It bothers me that you’re my only sister and we have never been close. I feel horrible for the lack of communication between us, and how I only wrote to Momma twice in four years. Ever since I left home to get an education and start a new life, I wanted to forget where I came from as much as I could. I couldn’t stand living the way we did and I wanted to break out of that cycle, which was the reason of the name change. I was ashamed of who I was and where I came from, which is wrong. I know I cannot get all of the time back that we did not spend together but I wish I can make that all up. I hope you and Momma can forgive me and maybe for my next visit we can start over again. Sincerely Dee...

...TUI University ENG102 Module 3 – Case December 2012 When it comes to presentation software, Microsoft PowerPoint has long been the industry standard for presenting information to the masses. However, in 2009 a company based out of Budapest launched Prezi, cloud-based presentation software as an alternative to the well-established Microsoft product. Although both programs were exclusively designed as presentation software, there are some differences between the two that will be highlighted in the subsequent paragraphs. PowerPoint, a slide-based program developed by Microsoft, is presentation software that consists of a number of individual pages or slides. Prezi is a cloud-based presentation software tool that allows the user to create a presentation using a large, blank page instead of traditional slides. The distinguishing feature of this software is its zooming user interface which enables users to zoom in and out of their presentation media. PowerPoint is offered as part of a software package that has to be uploaded on a computer. Prezi, on the other hand is a free web-based, assessable program that is offered online and as a download for computer desktops. PowerPoint is a linear-based application that uses multiple slides to present information, almost acting as a teleprompter when the user is presenting information. Prezi is a non-linear application that uses panning and zooming features that tend to give it more of a cinematic feel as opposed to the traditional...

...Erika Moreno Eng102-Sat 10/06/2011 Assignment#1 Alone with Blackberries In Norris’ “Blackberries," the child comes to realize at a young age that we are all different people. Evidently this is true, we are all unique, each of us with a different personality, different standards we live up to, different feelings and thoughts. We will all come across people who are different from ourselves. The child in this story cannot change the fact that his mother is self-centered. What happens when the people we love are different from us? Throughout the story, Norris reveals the mother as a self-centered individual. In one specific incident, while the child is getting a haircut, the mother states, “I, my husband and I, we thought it was time for him to look like a little boy” (71). Notice how she corrects herself from “I" to “my husband and I.” She catches herself for a split second being selfish, for the child is not only her child. Meanwhile the child is caught in the middle of a troublesome marriage his parents continue to proceed. Throughout the events that take place we can also conclude that money plays a big factor for the mother. “Oh, I hope so. It’s expensive enough,” she states when referring to the cap she purchases for her son (71). At times children can be carless, and carless enough her child ruins the cap by using it as a holder for the blackberries that the father and son bring home for her. “If we had money, it would be different,” she tells the father (73). The...

...Laketrice Peterson Essay One ENG102 April 27, 2014 My Personal Writing Style I like to think of myself as a work in progress, when it comes to writing because I am always looking for ways to improve and making changes in my writing process. I always start off my writing process by brainstorming and outlining; it is the first and most important step in writing for me. Brainstorming and outlining helps me to sort out my ideas and to actually begin to organize my thoughts and the writing process, it during this time that my paper actually begins to take (which makes the actual writing easier). I think that I am a methodical writer, and the brainstorming is a part of my method of writing. Another process for me that never changes is that I am a very hands-on writer, so much so that all of my papers and rough drafts begin the old fashioned way on pen and paper. I prefer to use a pen and I usually write a little fast, and sloppy. Beginning my papers on paper allows me to write freely and I always skip lines between my sentences and paragraphs so that I have space to make any changes or add any new sentences when I reread and edit. In fact, I am so old school that I never type my papers until I am ready to start the final draft of my paper. I believe that using pen and paper allows me to visualize my writing better and to formulate new ideas. This method also makes proofreading and catching any spelling and grammatical errors easy. When it comes to writing I like...

...Samantha Bennett ENG102 03/26/1 Tom Olsen Hamlet The play “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare is about a prince whose father is murdered by his brother. The entire play is Hamlet trying to avenge the death of his father. Hamlet’s uncle wants to be the king so he marries hamlet’s mother Gertrude. The conflict is very serious because his own family wants to kill him. His cousin is the one doing all the dirty work. The conflict is hazardous to everyone because one wrong move and more than the main people will die. There is a lot to be learned in this play from themes to whether or not the characters are believable. There is a main theme of revenge. Hamlet wants revenge against his uncle for killing his father. He is also upset with him because his mother got remarried so quickly after he died. Throughout the play he tries to find evidence that his uncle murdered his father. The sub theme of hamlet is madness. Hamlet has an antic disposition, which means he acts in a frivolous way. It’s hard to tell if hamlet actually does go mad or if he is faking it to confuse the king and his followers. Hamlet puts on a good show of going mad so no one suspects a thing. Another sub theme is lies and deceit. Hamlet is someone who craves honesty and hates being lied to, but his life pretty much revolves around having to lie to everybody. There are a lot more themes in this play ranging from religion to family. The main themes are the ones we focus the most on when reading...
