I think one of my first big “ah ahh” moments came to me during the wellness lecture by Janet DeWan. I struggled in the beginning of the semester with getting back into the mode of studying daily and keeping up with reading and school work as I had been removed from the full time school load for two years during my time as an ICU nurse. I was exhausted and struggling to keep up with my daily reading and studying for multiple very intense courses in this program. I thought I was the only one who was struggling and becoming overwhelmed. I wasn’t alone, and I learned that in talking with my classmates. I was able to talk to them about their own personal struggles and stresses that they were facing with this program as well and we became a support system for each other. Janet Dewan then talked to us about the stresses we face as SRNAs and later in life as CRNAs and the importance of finding our own coping mechanisms for that stress so that we do not lose sight of our focus and desire to become successful CRNAs.
