Studies show that most people at one point in their life face the predicament of choosing between two or more professional careers that is why is fundamental to questions a professional contact, friend, co-worker or even a client when making this choice: What are your abilities?, What’s your work style? Where do you want to work? Do you have people skills? Do you want to do social networking? How you will be able to balance your work and your social life? How do you deal with stress? And How must important how much money do you want to make? But also consider the educational training that you will need for a particular field. The final career choice and ultimate option should be the one that include guidance from a career counselor or school advisor.
In this report, the previous questions will be explored in order to choose between a career in accounting or marketing. These two careers have similarities as well as differences. CONTENT
A professional contact Richard Perez has asked me to help him with a big decision that most professionals go through during their careers, choosing between two or more careers. In his case the two careers he had to be choosing from are accounting and marketing. Let’s start by mentioning that Mr. Perez has BBA degree in accounting and marketing. He also has experience in both, after he graduated his first job was on a marketing firm in which he was assigned to the advertising department during the time he spent in this department he learned a little bit of everything like public relations, creativity and how to do branding but after a while he found himself stuck in one position, that is when he decide get out of marketing and take a change on his second degree accounting with his experience in marketing and the accounting degree on hand he landed a job as auditor in a well profitable company and after a while on that position he manage to get the certification as a Certified Public Accountant.
At this point he started going up in ranks, recognitions and achievement he also begin to get offers from different companies on both fields due to the fact that he also have experience in the marketing field his decision on this matter was a little bit blurry, meanwhile he have love for both careers, but he knew that he have a big decision to make so he came to me looking to get a better prospective and professional recommendation on which of the two careers he should choose. I know Mr. Perez from a previous job that I held in the company that he still work for and since then we always keep in touch. He respects my opinion as a professional so do I with him so went it come to get a professional advice, that why I took this request very seriously and decided to make a professional report my approach to his request.

ACCOUNTING:
Career training in accounting is available in nearly every form, both on-campus and online: certificates, associate's degrees, bachelor's degrees, master of accounting degrees and MBAs with accounting specializations. Most jobs require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Job seekers who earn certification or licensure, a master's degree, or specialized expertise will have an advantage in the job market.
If you consider continuing your career in accounting, you know that having an aptitude for mathematics and be able to analyze, compare, and interpret facts and you must be able to clearly communicate your results to clients and managers.
Keeping up with industry standards and technological applications is crucial in maintaining a successful, progressive career in accounting. Even accountants with college degrees continue to seek extra training or enroll in refresher courses or work towards more specialized accounting degrees should be the best decision to do in order to continue your career on this field.
Accounting can be divided into four major fields as defined by Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor: 1. Public Accountants 2. Management Accountants 3. Government Accountants 4. Auditors and Internal Auditors
The breadth of the accounting industry leads to many areas of specialization, such as general, budget, cost, property, systems, forensic, and tax accounting. Private accountants are also in demand for non-profit organizations that need specialized expertise in tax regulations and policies unique to them.
Your choice should depend on your own personal career and lifestyle goals. Public accounting generally offers higher salaries, variety, and advancement based on merit as you know it. Private accounting is more stable with a fixed location, hours, and workload. Private accountants should get a traditional four-year degree, but are not required to obtain their CPA designation. Internal auditors, management accountants and tax professionals can practice without CPA credentials.
In 20012, the median annual earnings of accountants and auditors were $59,918. The middle half earned between $46,801 and $72,050. Accountants with a bachelor's degree received offers starting at $46,718 annually. Directors of accounting and auditing the highest paid positions earn $78,000 to $208,000. Salaries differ depending on the firm's size and location, and the accountant's education and professional credentials.

Additional certifications can help you achieve your career goals like Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) this certification requires that be a CPA and since you are CPA this certification can get you be recognized for the unique ability to bridge the gaps between business and technology. Another certification that can help you to reach your career ambitions is Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) this certification also requires to be a CPA and is an exclusive certification only held by Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) who are members of the AICPA.
As you search for your next move, be sure to understand their view and focus on other achievements and abilities that you have to offer.

MARKETING:
Career training in marketing is available in nearly every form, both on-campus and online: certificates, associate's degrees, bachelor's degrees, master of marketing degrees. Most jobs require at least a bachelor's degree in marketing. Job seekers who earn a master's degree, or specialized expertise will have an advantage in the job market. Marketing is the other option that you can take into consideration and since you work in this field before you know that this career offer many options, but how do you know which one is right for you? Marketing can be defined as being the intermediary function between product development and sales.
In Advertising you will work with all aspects of marketing from strategy to concept to the execution of the strategy. You will find that most jobs on the business side of advertising include Account Management, Account Planners, and Media Buyers.
Brand management is the career that you hear about most often. It is an important function in the consumer products industry also brand managers are often related to small business owners because they assume responsibility for a brand or brand family. They are always focused on the big picture.
Market Research involves researching a target that can be companies or individuals. Research involves the first process of understanding the consumer, what their needs are, what their purchasing habits are, and how they view themselves in relation to the rest of the world.
It is the responsibility of the Public relations department to manage the communication with the media, consumers, employees, investors, and the general public. They are considered the spokesperson for the company. They will often write press releases for many situation like to promote new products or to keep the investment community informed of business partnerships, financial results, or other company news. If the job is based out of media relations you will spend your time responding to information requests from journalist or sending stories to the media.
Individuals who work in marketing spend more time developing a company or brand than accountants. Where accountants are concerned with the finances and bottom line, people in marketing focus on company image and customer relations. While marketing managers and other marketing positions require some knowledge of finances, they focus on conducting market research, helping develop advertising campaigns and helping determine pricing strategies for a company. On the following graph I will illustrate to you the different salaries for the different positions in marketing, but remember that this salaries may vary depending on the company size and location also most of this position offer bonuses that are not part of the salary and base on goals achievements.

The area in which marketing and accounting cross paths is management accounting. Individuals who work in management accounting help develop new products, maintain a company’s financial image by dealing with stockholders and the press and advise the company to help make sound financial decisions with regard to its marketing and image. Marketing relates to accounting in the development of pricing strategies, because it involves using the principles of accounting to determine how pricing strategies will affect a company’s bottom line.

RECOMENDATIONS
Choosing a career is a very important decision especially when someone with the professional background such as yours encounter this big decision with two different jobs to choose from that is so obvious that what you want is to choose the right job that can get you to the professional level that you want to reach in your career. Both careers offer a higher chance for success but after researching them, I conclude that the career that you should chose is Management Accounting because this career offers a combination of both accounting and marketing, for starter your education and experience on both fields is well documented with recognitions and achievements. While both careers offer an opportunity to interact with clients you can also use your personal creativity, Management accounting also offers a higher use of your analytical and mathematical skills in order to get a product or service to reach his full potential gain.
There are other career paths that you can choose like channel development, market research and director of accounting that will help you to achieve your career goals but none of those career offer the combination of the two. I found myself learning lot about this two careers and after analyzing your background on both career paths is my duty to inform you that my recommendation without a doubt is management accounting.
