...English 1101-17 11/24/15 Professor F Reflective Essay Wow! What a Semester. Writing is something that has always been an issues in my life. I do enjoy writing as long it’s not academic. Cliché I know, but if I have to write about an event or tell a story, I am all for it. As long as the guidelines are not too strict. And I have creative freedom. I have always had issues with my writing due to thing such as grammar and sentence fragments. But this class has helped me with those problems. Especially in my other classes. Which seemed to have the same amount of writing, if not more. There are many aspects of English that I now comprehend better. My perception on English has changed drastically, I have found a new level of respect for authors and readers. And their ability to create images through words. My own experience in this class has shaped me into greater thinker, due to the many deep thinking sessions in class. I would like to formally thank Professor Brevik, for introducing a well needed method into my writing process. Each writer has their own strength and weaknesses. And mine seemed to the five in-class essays we have done during the semester. I really struggled with those assignments, maybe because this was my first time being exposed to such task. She had sixty-eight years of life experiences to fill her poems, before her death in 1979. Bishop won many awards throughout her career including the famous Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and best of all; she was the Poet Laureate of the United States from 1949 to 1950. Graduating from Vassar College in 1929, her first few poems were published while she was a student (Poets.org.). Though she continued writing poems till the end of her career, she also was a published short story author. One of her first published short stories was included in the book, Questions of Travel. While Elizabeth Bishop’s poems focused her life, they also were about her impressions of the physical world. Many of her poems are studied throughout schools, one of the most popular being, “The Fish”; which I studied throughout my education twice. I wouldn’t consider any of the poems I have read by her, “easy reads”; in fact, I would consider them fairly complicated and would require most students to use Sparknotes. The select poems I have read by her, I have not fully understood without assistance. Glaspell's Trifles uses a murder mystery to portray a soured relationship between a husband and wife. One of the difficulties is that men and women have different interests and therefore take significance from different things. "While the men importantly bumble about trying to discover a motive, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale solve the case right under their dull noses.” (3) Throughout Trifles you are shown how little things add up to big things when small unnoticed facts slip by the Sheriff, the County Attorney and Mr. Hale. Meanwhile the women discover critical evidence. They determine that Minnie Wright, after social abandonment and a silent death, was likely provoked to kill her husband. Although Mrs. Wright says she was asleep at the time of her husband's death, the women find clues in the way that she kept her kitchen and are able to follow her thinking and conclude otherwise. The men only note that it the house is not well kept. The lack of communication and great difference in areas of concern show the men and women of Trifles completely different views of the matter at hand. The basic definition is found in §3-302(a), which you should read carefully. Official Comment 4 to §3-302 makes it clear that the payee can qualify as a holder in due course in some rare situations. Normally, the payee is so involved in the underlying transaction that he or she has notice of problems affecting payment obligations, and thus cannot be a holder in due course. But the examples given in Official Comment 4 describe fact patterns where the payee is innocent of such knowledge and can therefore qualify for the protection given to holders in due course. Improving educational outcomes will require efforts on many fronts, but a central premise of this monograph is that one part of a solution involves helping students to better regulate their learning through the use of effective learning techniques. Fortunately, cognitive and educational psychologists have been developing and evaluating easy-to-use learning techniques that could help students achieve their learning goals. In this monograph, we discuss 10 learning techniques in detail and offer recommendations about their relative utility. We selected techniques that were expected to be relatively easy to use and hence could be adopted by many students. Also, some techniques (e.g., highlighting and rereading) were selected because students report relying heavily on them, which makes it especially important to examine how well they work. The techniques include elaborative interrogation, self-explanation, summarization, highlighting (or underlining), the keyword mnemonic, imagery use for text learning, rereading, practice testing, distributed practice, and interleaved practice.
