“ Song of the Sirens”
Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving into your eyes.

And you sang "Sail to me, sail to me;
Let me enfold you."

Here I am, here I am waiting to hold you.
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was full sail?

Now my foolish boat is leaning, broken love lost on your rocks.
For you sang, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow."
Oh my heart, oh my heart shies from the sorrow.
I'm as puzzled as a newborn child.
I'm as riddled as the tide.
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or shall I lie with death my bride?

Hear me sing: "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you."
"Here I am. Here I am, waiting to hold you."

In “Song of the Sirens” it tells about a young man that falls in love with the beautiful music of a siren. He is drawn to her and his ship is broken on the rocks because he is trying to get to her. In the end of the song she sings to him telling him to keep swimming even though he is drowning. This song is in some ways like Margret Atwood’s poem “Siren Song” in her poem she tells about a siren who is telling a story to a certain person about the sirens song. In the end of the poem you find out that she tricked by singing him the song.

...INTERNATIONAL BURCH UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE [pic] ELT 422 Seminar Study in English Language Teaching Research proposal by Nermina Abdulahović Supervisor Amina Osmanović, M.A. Senior Teaching Assistant SARAJEVO January 2014 Name and Surname: Nermina Abdulahović Telephone number: 061/939-546 E-mail address: nermina.abdulahovic@hotmail.com PROPOSED RESEARCH TOPIC: Applying Bloom’s Taxonomy in the English Language Teaching classroom. Background: Traditional teaching is concerned with the teacher being the controller of the learning environment. Power and responsibility are held by the teacher and they pay the role of instructor and decision maker. They regard students as having “knowledge holes” that need to be filled with information. In short, the traditional teacher views that it is the teacher that causes learning to occur. (Novak, 1998) Today in 21 century we as teachers are doing everything to change this kind of teaching. The reason for that is because teacher is not anymore the only source of information. Traditional teaching was all about memorization. Bloom’s Taxonomy can be a powerful tool to transform teaching and learning. Bloom's Taxonomy was created in 1956 under the leadership of educational psychologist Dr Benjamin Bloom in order to promote higher forms of thinking in education, such as analyzing and evaluating, rather than just remembering...

...www.sciedu.ca/wjel World Journal of English Language Vol . 1, No. 1; April 2011 On Attitudes to Teachers’ Code-switching in EFL Classes Mingfa Yao School of English Language and Culture, Zhejiang International Studies University 140 Wen San Avenue, Hangzhou 310012, China Tel: +86-571-8157-8296 E-mail: mingfayao@163.com Received: February 27, 2011 Abstract Code-switching is commonly viewed with suspicion in EFL classes. The present article is to investigate and show the teachers and students’ attitudes to code-switching (CS) used by teachers in EFL classes in China. A four-section 20-item questionnaire was developed and distributed to the students and teachers. The data from the questionnaire were tabulated, and frequencies and percentages were conducted by SPSS program. The results display that students have the similar opinions with the teachers in most of question items. This consistency suggests that teachers and students have a similar positive attitude to teachers’ code-switching in EFL classroom. However there are some discrepancies in attitudes between the two samples in some question items. These discrepancies suggest that the use of code-switching in EFL classroom should be adapting to the practical teaching. Keywords: Code-switching, Attitude, Investigation, EFL class 1. Introduction In many cases, code-switching is commonly viewed with suspicion in EFL classes. Teachers and researchers in English as a second or foreign language have, on the whole, been concerned...

Patter for Research Paper

...Chapter 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction English language teaching has become very important because of the global status of English and people all over the world are learning this language. English language programs worldwide have become increasingly aware of the needs for curriculum review due to both demographic and situational changes taking place. As students’ populations, societal views, and institutional factors are constantly changing, English language programs need to be implemented routinely to make the changes necessary to facilitate the desired outcome of the program. Determining the needs of students is seen as a direct way to inform the teachers of the possible goals and objectives necessary to create a teaching and learning environment suited to the needs of the students. According to Nunan, 1989, the effectiveness of a language program will be dictated as much by the attitudes and expectations of the learners by the specifications of the official curriculum. It is important to understand how students’ perceived language needs because this will give the language teachers the idea on what to teach to the learners. The needs of a learner represent the gap between what the learner wants to get out of the learning experience and his or her current state of knowledge, skill, and enthusiasm (Noessel, 2003). Each learner is unique, and brings to the learning situation his or her own different learning style, knowledge set, pool of past experiences...

...Project title: Implementing Elements of CLL in Consolidating Grammar in Lower Secondary School. The aim of the project: To check the effectiveness of Community Language Learning in consolidating grammar in a non-threatening atmosphere and through whole person learning. Justification of the aim: As Stevick (1990) claims it is very disturbing and confusing for students when the teacher is continually browbeating him for every error. An appropriate response to it is an assumption of CLL inventor who “(...)builds his approach on the conviction that nonthreatening counselling relationship between the teacher and the learner is the perfect concept for whole-person learning.” (Dakowska 2007: 77). The aim of this project is to examine whether this assumption facilitate learning which should come naturally and easily. THEORETICAL PART 1. A Thesis "Definition Reviewer"

...CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Reviewing is one of the ways to remember information in the exams. It is also one of the best study skills used not only by the students but also a person who will take an examination from the book “Your Memory: How It Works and How to Improve It” by Dr. Higbee.  Each student as unique individual has different abilities, approaches, ways of thinking, interests and ways of studying the lessons and now a day there are many ways how to review for a test or exams. Students are chosen varieties of strategies on how to review to show what they have learned in schools said Dees. According to Atkinson, once something has been learned, it becomes stored in our memory and to maintain our ability to retrieve what we have learned from memory becomes essential to review. The review of definitions has become common in education and in studying and while using markers to highlight terms in texts of book or notes after hours of leafing through piles of scribbles to find the right pages is a tried and tested way to review terms and their definitions. Printed commercial examination reviewers are available in bookstores. In Lee Morgan’s article “What are the Limitations of Print Media,” he touches on two issues printed material face: they are unchangeable and no motion. It is particularly significant for printed reviewers available in bookstores because while memory involves an “organism’s ability to store information about events in a retrievable format,” and the...
