...Dramatic Review of Macbeth The Classical Theatre Project’s rendition of the “cursed” play is simply brilliant. In this professional production presented at the distinguished Winter Garden Theatre, Director Charles Roy delves into Macbeth through the viewpoint of modern military regimes. While each director will view Macbeth with different perspectives, Roy does an outstanding job by transforming Macbeth from a friendly hero to a Stalinesque tyrant. It is clear that the entire ensemble cast had created a production that was true to Shakespeare’s intent, true to their characters and true to our modern times. Having watched several renditions of Macbeth in the past, I was certainly surprised when I found myself thoroughly engaged and intrigued throughout out the entire show. Opposed to other performances, I found the this play to be exceptionally well executed because of the well trained actors, unique sets, gorgeous costumes, stunning special effects and the brilliant modernization of the play. One of the many things I specifically enjoyed was that the Witches were portrayed as nurses to fit into the modern military regime. I really enjoyed the first act in the beginning scenes when the Witches told the prophecy to Macbeth and Banquo because of how Roy added a touch of humour to that part lifting the "darkness" that typically clouds the play. ...Clothing and Accessories in Macbeth Of the many plays that William Shakespeare wrote, critics and theatre fanatics alike consider The Tragedy of Macbeth to be his most dark and brooding work. Taking place in eleventh century Scotland, the tragedy follows the main character, Macbeth, and all the unfortunate events that unfold around him. However, despite being the title character, Macbeth and his tragic flaws are what lead to the demise of many other characters in the story. A Scottish nobleman and general at the beginning of the play, he quickly manages to rise to power as the King of Scotland after hesitantly resorting to performing immoral acts, such as killing Duncan, the country’s previous king, to fulfill his ambitions. Ironically, this trait of his is exactly what leads to his death by the end of the play. Macbeth’s false ambitions that arose out of the desire to fulfill the evil witches’ prophecies end up pushing him to commit one murder, which quickly escalates into the slaughter of many residents in Scotland, solely for the sake of securing his rule and power. Therefore, I believe that this quote is not an accurate judgment of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as it was based on one mistake, though a considerable mistake. To start with, I should first give an explanation about the two important words in this quote: a butcher is a person who kills people unnecessarily and brutally, while a fiend is someone very cruel and spiteful who symbolizes the devil. In order to consolidate his power, Macbeth kills Duncan, Banquo, Macduff's wife and son and all the people in the Castle of Fife. At this point, he is a "butcher"; in the full sense of the word. At the first glimpse of Lady Macbeth, she is a character of deep mystery and unknown motivations. These motivations manifest themselves into a sort of sexual lust for power, which gives her the image of having strong, raw power. Upon receiving her husband’s letter about the witches’ prophesies, she attempts to be like a man in order to exude the strength needed to gain additional social status as royalty.
