...Coach tries to pump everyone up for the big race tomorrow but all you can hear are the sniffles coming from all the the runners. Everyone shivers as a cool, fall breeze passes through the group. As coaches speech drags to an end we all thank him, and get our stuff to leave. Everyone jokes around per usual, though there is a dense fog of stress hanging in the air. Tomorrow is the biggest cross country race of the season. If the team does good then they get to stay running for another week and go to regionals, but if they have a bad race their season will end right there without states. ...living situation and her background. When he was done talking with the client, we started the paperwork. I started asking the questions on the forms, my supervisor would step in to explain something or ask more questions. After the initial paperwork was filled out we had to go over forms that the client had to sign. Although I was able to remember some of the stuff on the forms, I was unable to remember everything on them, so my supervisor stepped in to better explain the forms. In the end the intake took around an hour to complete. After the intake, my supervisor stated that I did okay, just that I need to work on being able to explain LINK services and what the paperwork states, as well as being more comfortable exploring with questions. During the intake, I felt pressure to be able to explain things properly, which is partially the cause of forgetting things. I also felt that I wasn’t really given that much opportunity to explore some of the questions because my supervisor took over. It was almost as if I was thinking too much into it and was too worried about during the intake properly that mind spaced on some of the stuff that I was supposed to go over. As far as the NASW Code of Ethics, there are a few values or principles that were evident in the situation. The first one deals with competence, although it is important to be knowledgeable and apply past experience into practice, it can be hard sometimes. Since I am still in the learning process, I need to accept that not everything...

...“The Story of Stuff” is a short video created by The Story of Stuff project in 2007. In the video, writers Annie Leonard and Jonah Sachs describe the process of turning natural resources into consumer goods, then into waste. The writers describe a seemingly linear five-step process: extraction, production, distribution, consumption, and disposal. Leonard and Sachs describe a carefully-scripted culture of unsustainable consumption and waste. The extraction phase of “The Story of Stuff” refers to the removal of natural resources such as timber, natural gas, coal, oil, and water. The writers emphasize the unsustainability of this phase, especially in the United States. The video states that the United States holds 5% of the world’s population but uses 30% of the world’s natural resources and creates over 30% of the world’s waste. This is a staggering statistic. Four percent of the United States’ forests remain. FOUR PERCENT. How much longer will it be before trees are things read about in storybooks (digitally printed of course, as there are no more natural resources to harvest.) The production phase is described as the addition of toxic chemicals to natural resources in order to produce the “stuff” we want. Please note the use of the word “want,” not “need.” The authors note that over 100,000 synthetic chemicals are commercially available today and are regularly used in production. Of those 100,000 synthetic chemicals, very few have been tested in a significant way to measure...

...The Story of Stuff: A Review The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute film aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of excessive human consumption. Presented by Annie Leonard – an activist for consumerism and environmental sustainability (Story Of Stuff Project, 2013) – this video provides a simple yet well researched explanation on the ‘behind-the-scenes’ management of the life-cycle of common items consumed daily in the United States. From mining and manufacturing to distribution, consumption and waste, this presentation takes viewers on a journey to explore many missing fragments that are hardly ever reported in the system (Leonard, 2009). Watched by over 12 million people worldwide, and translated into over 15 languages (Roosevelt, 2010), Leonard has received both applauds and criticisms for her unapologetic condemnation of humans (especially Americans) – for their excessive consumption and wasteful habits – and her rather conspicuous allegation of the devious relationship between the government and private corporations. One significant issue that Leonard (2009) presented in the video was that, due to human activity, natural resources around the world are rapidly diminishing. Natural resources such as minerals and trees are constantly mined and felled to satisfy men’s insatiable appetite for more goods. The presentation revealed that in the last decade, one-third of the world’s resource base has depleted. Furthermore, it is said that only four percent...

...The reasonable man standard is a standard in criminal law and it is used for the good of the criminally accused. The definition of the “reasonable man” standard is the decision of whether an accused is guilty of a given offense that might involve the application of an objective test in which the accused is compared to that of a reasonable person under similar circumstances. In most cases, persons with greater than average skills, or with special duties to society, are held to a higher standard of care. The reasonable man is not used often but it is used when the court is in a pickle, when they can’t decide whether or not the criminally accused acted out or it was just an accident. A jury can usually decide whether or not the accused has acted as a reasonable person would have acted in the same situation. After the decision, the jury generally will consider the accused persons conduct in light of what the defendant actually knows, experienced, or has perceived of the situation. In addition to the accused actual knowledge, a jury also considers the knowledge that should be common to everyone in the given situation(3). When we get beyond the thought of what the accused actually knew, the problem gets more in depth and complicated, and the authorities less lenient. Although a few propositions call for a good deal of support. Only if the actor has a physical impairment of personality or is insane or a child, he must be fully attentive to his surroundings to perceive what the...

...http://www.aksnewarkde.com/StudyHabits.html GOOD STUDY HABITS... ...are the key to keeping up your grades Remember: “If you improve your study habits, improving your grades will be easier…” 1. Make a list. It all starts with ‘planning’. Make a list of all the things you have to do. Break it down into smaller chunks. Then check off your accomplishments as you go. 2. Do the hard stuff first…then the easy. Put your energy into the harder assignments…when you have less energy or your brain is tired, you can then tackle the easier tasks. 3. Proper study space. Make a place to study. When you use the same place to study, day after day, your body becomes trained. You will focus your concentration more quickly there. 4. Snack. Don’t try to study on an empty stomach. If you’re hungry, you’ll be distracted. So grab an apple or some carrot sticks. Just avoid dairy products or turkey, which tend to be natural sedatives (make you sleepy). 5. No distractions. Turn off the stereo, TV or radio. Silence is the best environment to study in. 6. Study buddy. Don’t overlook the value of a study partner. Quiz each other, compare notes and practice testing. You can also help one another from becoming bored. But avoid distracting each other from what you are there to do. 7. Write it down. Experts agree that the more senses you use to absorb information, the better you’ll remember it. Don’t just read about what you’re...

...8 July 2007 Exactly What is the Right Stuff? When people ask what is needed to accomplish an impossible task, or achieve a goal that seems outside the grasp of human power, it is often said that the person who achieves that feat has “The Right Stuff.” This is not some item you can pick up in a store, or that is taught at an Ivy League college. “The Right Stuff” is the intestinal fortitude required to drive on and persevere far after it is said it is no possible. Since the dawn of time it has been wondered if it takes a person of almost god-like proportions to achieve impossible feats, or someone just crazy enough to try. I most cases this is really nothing more that a person with such drive and desire to prove their point they are willing to risk everything including their lives to make something happen. To properly categorize this concept of “The Right Stuff”, we must look at what has been done in its name. Weather it be BG Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier in the Bell X-1, or the pioneers of the space program in the Mercury and Apollo space programs; one thing holds true they indeed has something that others did not, guts. When the word guts are used it is usually compared to a skateboarder or freestyle motocross rider doing something crazy and dangerous. This while brave and daring is nothing in comparison to the risk involved in the early space programs. People who in fact have this thing we call “The Right Stuff” are easily categorized and found. They are...

...Homework Assignment #1 One of the most important skills you will learn in this course is how to “brief” a case. Judges interpret the law to resolve a dispute between two parties in a civil trial. This interpretation is documented in an “opinion”. These opinions are indexed in volumes and online. Opinions can be complex and address a variety of issues in the plaintiff’s claims or claims. Using case “briefs” will help you to understand how the court interpreted the law and how that interpretation may apply to another situation. A brief of a case will contain the parties involved, the relevant facts of the case, the issue the court is deciding, the rule of law, and the courts conclusion and rationale.
