...Lamont Waites American Politics 105 3/6/2014 Illegal Immigrants Illegal immigrants in the United States (US) have long been a topic of debate for policymakers and the public. For over decades, people from all over the world keep coming into the United States seeking for better life for themselves, and most importantly for their spouse, their children and even their children's children. However, not every immigrant comes into this country through legal procedure and most of these illegal immigrants are poor and uneducated people. They might be brought here because of human trafficking, smuggling or other methods. There’s been many debates regarding helping these illegal aliens to become citizens to our America. Should congress make it uncomplicated for migrants o become citizens or, should congress keep the hardship of earning theirs? Easy legal ship for immigrants has been a humongous controversy for decades to come. For years to come, this country has been split 50/50 on this topic and from the recent years, hasn’t reached a decision yet. There have been many views on ways to make citizenship easy. One of them that caught my eye has captured my consideration mentioned a lot about the age groups of these foreigners. The Pro-immigration groups are pushing congress to provide conditional legal status to immigrants who came to the United States at the age of 10 and have lived here for at least five years. I honestly don’t approve of softening up on granting citizenships to...

The members of a partnership are called partners.”. When discussing partnerships, there are three types of partners that need to be considered, a silent partner, limited liability partner, and a general partner. ...Gerri Stewart Professor Maselli English 103 17 January 2016 Two Is Always Better Than One In this life people are destined to have one father that is responsible for the creation of their life. However Danticat was blessed to have two fathers who loved and taught her the essence of strength. While reading the book “Brother, I’m Dying” Danticat tells a story about her life in Haiti, being raised by her uncle, and her father who lived in America. She later reunited with her father and joined him in the United States. The story shows how two different influences ignited her passion for writing. Uncle Joseph was a man who exemplified courage. Miracin was a man who fought through his sickness. Both men had their own struggles, however, they were able to persevere through them and teach Danticat how to be a fighter, and how to proclaim courage despite adversity. Next Danticat saw her uncle Joseph go to the ends of the earth for a child he raised as his own in hopes to save Marie from the hands of death from another man. She has seen him fight through the disease that left him with no voice, and she even saw him endure the loss of his wife. Yet he still was able to continue on despite the feelings of loneliness and pain. The time when Uncle Joseph continued to stay in his home while war broke out. Or the time when he told his family to leave his home and let him stay behind. He never gave up the fight for justice, and peace. This gave Danticat knowledge on how to defeat any...

...John Smith English 2323 – CRN 40738 28 March 2015 Midterm Essay – Topic 1 The Effects of Industrialism Although the modern world as we know it could not have existed without the Industrial Revolution, seldom thought is ever given to the real women, men and children whose lives were directly affected by the innovative technologies that changed labor and social normality’s throughout western civilization. An example of the vast economic and social change brought about by industrialism can be observed in Britain during the Victorian age where the way of life for the common laborer completely changed, as the text describes: Transformations in the production of textiles led to the first and most dramatic break with age-old practices … by the beginning of the Victorian period, the Industrial Revolution had already created profound economic and social changes. Hundreds of thousands of workers had migrated to the industrial towns … Employers often preferred to hire women and children, who worked for even less money than men (1581). Prose writer Henry Mayhew and poets Elizabeth Barret Browning and William Morris offer profound insight into the hardships of industrialism and its effect upon the poorest laborers, child workers and socialist political movements during the Victorian era of Great Britain. The poor and common laborer suffered greatly during the progress of industrialism. The advent of technological advances caused a great deal of influx in labor pools, as...

...N V Professor Bayer English 1202 AO 25 April 2011 Revenge and Forgiveness Revenge and forgiveness are the two underlying factors that are present throughout the entirety of William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet: Prince of Denmark. The play is begun with the death of Hamlet’s father, which Hamlet finds to be unsettling from the start. Hamlet’s uncle Claudius then takes over the throne while Hamlet’s mother then marries his uncle. It is then that the ghost of his father, tells Hamlet that the very man who had become king murdered him in cold blood; the ghost brings the idea of revenge to Hamlet’s mind (Shakespeare 1547). While revenge is constantly on his mind throughout the play, there is also the idea that Hamlet must forgive those who have done wrongs to him or his family; this is shown through his dedication to religion. But in the end, Hamlet’s internal need to seek revenge for his father’s death is so great that he is ultimately unable to forgive his uncle. The play begins with the sudden death of Hamlet’s father, and his uncle Claudius, his father’s brother, taking the throne (Shakespeare 1550). Hamlet’s mother chooses to marry Claudius just days after the death of Hamlet’s father, and Prince Hamlet expresses his disgust through his soliloquies, where he exclaims, “Frailty, thy name is woman!” (Shakespeare 1553). After some time, Hamlet is brought out to a forest by two guards who have claimed to see the ghost of his father. After some deliberation, the ghost of Hamlet’s...

...In this book and play “The Death of a Salesman”, The main character Willy Loman, is having problems getting and holding onto a job. His whole life has always been a failure and still is proceeding as one. As this story proceeds, Willy is having some inside thoughts about life, and how things are going when it is not really happening at all, it is just all in his head. In the story “The Death of a Salesman”, I do think that the characters are very believable. They all have a personality like no one would think of. They all have very unique characteristics like: stealing, lying, going crazy, and always being miserable. I can relate to all of the characters. There are times when I think that I am in real life, but then snap out of it and come back to reality. Like Willy Loman, I also have tendencies to fail on a daily bases, and to not do my best because of what might have happened earlier in the day. Also, unlike Willy Loman, I do not go crazy, or think up some outrageous thoughts that I always believe to be real. I do fail on a daily basis on things, but as well as Willy, I do not end up failing at jobs or little interviews for small jobs. I do stay sane and get what I need done, unlike Willy Loman, he ends up not realizing things, or he forgets a lot, or he just cannot get down how to do things right. The story “The Death of a Salesman”, is a story that has many feelings and emotion, and I do think that we all could relate this story and play to all of our lives, because...

...Social Media, Do They Really Make Us More Social? In today's society, many people of all ages use social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Instagram, and many more through their phones and computers. These social networking sites allow people to find, connect, and have relationships with just about anyone, from a classmate in your English 101 class to the pretty girl or boy you just met in last night's party. Browsing these sites can make you feel connected with others, but such easy, casual connection in an electronic environment has its downside. These social networking sites do not improve the social lives of people, but instead, these sites ruin the social lives of people by creating false sense of connection, bullying, having less privacy, and decreasing people's productivity from the real-world. Ironically, social media sites do not make the social lives of people better. They isolate people from society and causes people to have difficulty communicating with others in the real-world. It is because the bonds that people have online are fake which creates false sense of connection or relationship causing people to struggle communicating with others in the real-world. "It’s true that by eliminating barriers like geography, time of the day, and physical availability for a conversation, these social media make it easier and quicker for people to remain in contact and have relationships with other people"("All this social media might be making...

...When Kids Kill Recently the number of murders committed by children increased dramatically. This issue is spreading at a fast rate and is touching families, friends and civilians. Children are becoming more sophisticated and are dealing with new, bigger problems at a younger age. Combined with a violent surrounding, dealing with these problems may cause a more disturbed and brutal “solution” that will be executed by the child. Nothing still shocks as much as a child killing an innocent person or even a parent. Dealing with these children is another problem. Should they be treated as adults or as normal kids and just blame their acts on a childish explanation? With such a serious and alarming concern, an effective solution is desperately required. A child must be taught what’s good and what’s bad. In these conditions, it is best to put these children in a non-violent juvenile prison where they will face a rehabilitation that will hopefully prevent the recurrence of similar future crimes. To begin with, there are several reasons that push children to commit such crimes. According to Heide (2009) a child usually has a tremendous difficulty in accepting that his actions lead to an irreversible result. Many factors may come into place that will cause such behaviors. The psychological side is a major reason in this issue. Children will become dangerous and will most likely commit crimes when they experience difficult and hard conditions in their home...
