...As a family we enjoy interacting in certain activities. My mother enjoys sitting around the house watching lifetime movies and eating hot dogs. My father loves to go fishing every chance he gets. That’s his meditation. My brother enjoys playing football. Football is his life. He wants to be in the NFL. My sister enjoys spending time with her friends, going out and exploring certain parts of the town. My other brother enjoys shopping for clothes. He takes pride in his clothing, and to him clothes are what make a person. My aunts enjoy drinking. They feel the best way to have a good time is if you are either drunk or almost drunk. My little cousins enjoy running around outside until the soles of their shoes have fallen off. However, none of those activities are what I enjoy doing. The activity I enjoy is playing basketball. One reason I enjoy playing basketball is because it kept me out of trouble. Another reason I enjoy playing basketball because it’s a family game. Playing basketball is something I have always enjoyed doing very since I was a little girl. I have played basketball for church organizations, school, and, the most common place, the park. Basketball plays a major role in my life. It’s more than just a game to me. It’s a lifestyle. Basketball is my everything. I really don’t know who I would be if I was never introduced to the game of basketball. Basketball kept me on the right path of life. I stayed out of trouble because I stayed in the gym. I always thought when...

...I. Show us an activity you enjoy doing. Tell us how you think it contributes to your personal and professional development I began training and coaching beach volley last year. The idea came into my mind while I was watching the beach volley tournament of my girlfriend job and many participants were complaining about the different level of the teams. Once back home I explained my idea to my girlfriend which is a volley professional and introduced me to the sport and she bought it. The reason why I have selected this activity is because it contributes to strengthen the relationship with my girlfriend, sharing and enjoying together an important portion of my few spare times, since my job is very time consuming being “up in the air all the time”. I therefore killed two birds with one stone, keeping my girlfriend happy without sacrificing my preferred hobby: playing sport. Beach Volley, as any other sport, is good for both physical and mental health. It makes my little heart muscle big and strong and it helps me get rid of toxins from the body. When I am on the beach playing with the “guys” I feel relaxed and, looking at the immensity of the Mediterranean Sea I am able to forget the daily difficulties and recharge my battery. Furthermore, it helps me on my self-awareness development. During this period when the current crisis is oppressing specific sector like the public research, I feel the need to collaborate in activities that contribute to the improvement of some...

...Enjoy that Expresso: The Benefits of Caffeine Jesse Russell 12/3/12 It's midnight. Your mid-term exam is tomorrow morning, and you have just started studying. What's more, you are already exhausted from a event-filled day. How are you ever going to manage to resist the overwhelming forces of fatigue and drowsiness? How are you going to stay awake? When faced with this daunting dilemma or a similar situation, most people turn to caffeine for the energy needed to pull through the night. Whether you sipped at a tall latte or chugged a few Mountain Dews, you know you couldn't have done it without caffeine's help. On the other hand, you may heavily rely on the invigorating boost from your morning brew to jump start your day. Regardless, the conclusion remains the same: Caffeine immensely influences our daily lives. In “How Caffeine Works,” Marshall Brain states that “between 80 and 90 percent of adults and children habitually consume caffeine.” in North America. Furthermore, the average intake of caffeine is 280 mg, which is about a cup and a half of coffee (Brain et al). These statistics explicitly demonstrate the deep integration of caffeine into our culture. But why are Americans always attracted to caffeine? What makes it so alluring? Is it helpful or harmful? A simple study of the effects of caffeine on the human body will produce irrevocable evidence about the many benefits of caffeine. More specifically, caffeine beneficially interacts with adenosine, dopamine...

I read books on self-help, but it is not really helping me.Inoffice, mybossscoldsme, andIfeelbad all day. Is there a way out? A: Getting upset is one thing but holding on to the upset is yet another thing. To handle upset is one thing and energy to get stuck to that upset is yet another thing. Why do you hold on to the upsets and hurts? You are upset, if you allow it; without any internal wording it will fade away in one or two minutes. But worrying about that upset is the disorder in which the mind is caught up. Why do you not let go of the upset? There are so many genuine emotions that are more meaningful and you lose sight of this. If you give attention to reliving of the upset, you will find that it has been a mechanical habit and nothing more than that. The moment you are upset, gently speak to the upset and say, “It is OK. I am upset. I will understand it and not be a victim to it.” In this process, it will pass away, with a lesson. Learn to talk to your hurt and see what happens. Also, after the gentle talks as above, good emotions that you have of the person who has hurt you will arise and you will find them to be in abundance. Give more reality and more life to that...

...Would Holden Enjoy Lee's Demeanor? Name: Kendrick Liang Teacher: Emilio Nieves Date: 11/14/15 The most noticeable part of being a teenager for many people seems to be the recurring phases of angst and rebellion. It is also likely for those who are of kindred spirit to be interested in and possibly even emotionally charged towards each other in the hypothetical situation that they were to meet. This is particularly true about the protagonists of The Catcher in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger, and Prep, by Curtis Sittenfeld, who both deal with their own emotional struggles of trying to find an identity and their attitudes towards both their allies and their enemies. The Washington Post's review in Prep even went so far as to suggest that "Holden Caulfield would love this heroine." This quote does have validity to it, due to the possibility of Holden expressing sympathy towards Lee if they were to cross paths. Holden would probably express sympathy due to the way he thinks about dishonesty, relationships, and innocence. Holden regularly criticizes others, especially adults, on their behaviors by addressing them with a variety of insults, such as "phony" and "slob". For example, Holden talks about how Maurice, the elevator boy who directed him to a prostitute, demanded five more dollars than what he claimed he would charge Holden beforehand, resulting in a fistfight that injures and humiliates Holden (p. 55-56). This reinforces his distrust towards individuals that have more authority...

...A few years ago, my high school’s choir sang the National Anthem at a Cardinals game. How fantastic is that? I find it to be quite an honor to part of an anthem chorus, although this is not my ideal way to enjoy a baseball game. I would rather be on my couch, in front of my television, and with my family to watch a game. I have no desire to go to a live baseball game. It would be either way too hot, or too cold, and I would not be able to enjoy myself. It is also extremely hard and expensive to get decent seats so you are comfortable and can easily view the game. Another issue I have with live games is being with that monstrous amount people that I do not know. Nevertheless, there are major bragging rights in being able to say you went...

...Enjoy! Hedonic Consumption and Compliance with Assertive Messages ANN KRONROD AMIR GRINSTEIN LUC WATHIEU This paper examines the persuasiveness of assertive language (as in Nike’s slogan “Just do it”) as compared to nonassertive language (as in Microsoft’s slogan “Where do you want to go today?”). Previous research implies that assertive language should reduce consumer compliance. Two experiments show that assertiveness is more effective in communications involving hedonic products, as well as hedonically advertised utilitarian products. This prediction builds on sociolinguistic research addressing relationships between mood, communication expectations, and compliance to requests. A third experiment reaffirms the role of linguistic expectations by showing that an unknown product advertised using assertive language is more likely to be perceived as hedonic. C onsumers are often exposed to forceful messages and imperative slogans such as Nike’s “Just do it,” Sprite’s “Obey your thirst,” or U.S. Airways’ “Fly with US.” The frequent use of assertively phrased messages is puzzling, given the mounting research in consumer behavior (e.g., Dillard and Shen 2005; Fitzsimons and Lehman 2004; Lord 1994), communications (e.g., Kellerman and Shea 1996; Quick and Considine 2008; Quick and Stephenson 2007; Wilson and Kunkel 2000), and sociolinguistics (e.g., Levine and Boster 2001; Sanders and Fitch 2001), which suggests that these messages should lower consumer readiness to comply. To...

...Enjoy Social Media? Cyberbullies Do Douglas Spencer Hawaii Pacific University Writing 1200 David Falgout September 30, 2015 Enjoy Social Media? Cyberbullies Do There is increasing evidence that the Internet and social media can influence suicide-related behavior. The word “bully” can be traced back as far as the 1530s (Harper, 2015). The term “bully,” in it’s most basic logic, consist of two people, a bully and a victim. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention ("Bullying," 2015, p. 2), defines bullying as unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group or purpose. Bullying can occur in-person or through technology. Children are being exposed to social media and the Internet at an earlier age than ever before. Can being exposed at such an early age be the cause of cyberbullying? Since we are becoming a strictly technology centered lifestyle, young people are using social media technology, including cell phones, text messaging, and the Internet, to communicate with others in the United States and throughout the world at an earlier age than ever before. Social media technology has many potential benefits for youth. It allows young people to communicate with family and friends on a regular...

...It is better for people to be unemployed than people to be employed but they do not enjoy. Do you agree or disagree? I worked in a nine- to- five job as a banker for five years and wanted to die of my job, but had to resort to continue working to earn my living. In my opinion, working in a career that we do not have a deep passion for is not a totally good choice because this will alleviate people’s working satisfaction and adversely affect their career prospect, but it is still better than being unemployed in terms of financial perspective. An increasing number of people are changing their careers. What are the reasons? Do you think this is a positive or negative development to society? My brother had ten-year working experience and he made changes in his career more than five times. In my view, frequent changes in occupation are caused not only by the explosion of technology but also people’s new desire. As the result, the society has to struggle with the lack of skilled workforce. Advertising discourages people from being different individuals by making us want to be and to look the same. To what extent do you agree or disagree? People in Vietnam wear similar clothes, use high-tech gadgets of the same brand and share many other items in common. Personally, this trend proliferates due to the domination and attractiveness of some advertising campaigns of well-known brands. But, advertising is not the unique culprit because people also look the same when they imitate...

...Expository essay: Zykira D. Bell My mommy- Lishea Bell 11/19/12 I want to tell you a story about the most important person in my life - my mother. She’s important to me because she has been taking care of me since the day the day I was born. I love her dearly even though we have disagreements. I know that she is only telling me what is right and what will benefit me for the future. Another reason she inspires me is her successful career. She’s a registered nurse at the East Cancer Care Center where she works with people dealing with cancer ALL day long. My mother provides care for her patients from 8am-5pm. She comes home and still has time to do whatever is needed for my brother and I. Once we are taken care of and put to bed which is usually at 9:00pm. She sits down to do homework until the early hours of the morning. She’s furthering her education by attending South University of Montgomery where she will eventually earn her master’s degree. She’s on track to finish by the summer of 2014. And she still has time to go out, and on vacation to have fun. My mother is a very beautiful person inside and out. She is willing to help others in their time of trouble and she is...

...Introduction Kotler (1996:284) describes brand equity as the value of a brand based on the extent to which it has high brand loyalty, name awareness, perceived quality, strong brand associations, patents and trademarks and The Wall Street Journal (2010:1) ranked the top five brands as Coca cola, IBM, Microsoft, Google and General Electric. Coca cola Bilaras (2012:1) maintains that Coca cola built its brand equity by adapting a global marketing strategy, which considered the whole world as a single market. The reason behind this global focus was that they viewed their product as one that can be used by everyone irrespective of age and gender. To achieve this, Coca cola created an efficient and extensive distribution system throughout the world. According to the company’s 2010 review, it managed to build its brand equity by establishing a close relationship with its bottling partners who work closely with customers to execute localized strategies developed in partnership with them. Through effective collaboration, they are able to sell Coca cola products to consumers at a rate of 1.7 billion servings a day. Coca cola’s brand equity growth is also attributed to its expanded brand variety of products like diet coke, sprite, Fanta, Minute Maid and others to appeal to a wider demographic, asserts Bilaras (2012:1). This resulted in consumers viewing coke as a part of life, leading to a high degree of brand loyalty, and growth. Growth in brand equity was also realised through...

...Some people enjoy change, and they look forward to new experiences. Others like their lives to stay the same, and they do not change their usual habits. Compare these two approaches to life. Which approach do you prefer? Explain why. Some people like to live in the same house, have the same job and habits all their lives. However, others aspire to changes and new experience. Personally, for the several reasons, which I will explain bellow, I prefer the first approach to life. First of all, changes in one's life bring many benefits. One tries new things, gains new knowledge and experience. I think it is great because without changes life becomes boring. I always try to make changes in my life. Moreover, when I feel that my life is boring I do not feel well about it. I feel like I spent those days for nothing. I did not do anything exiting, I learnt nothing interesting and I just waisted my time. Second of all, people need changes. Furthermore, we need obstacles to overcome and reach our goals. I believe that changes make us stronger, more persistent, more self-confident, and more patient. Also, I feel that all people who succeeded in life like changes and new experience because it is impossible to be the best at some field without perfecting the present knowledge and gain new experience. People catch every opportunity to learn more and change their life for the best. From the other side, people who like their lives to stay the same are very permanent. They have...
