...The problem bothered Cisco a lot in 2001 is an example of company doesn’t do anything about centralized monitoring. The decisions may different with company strategy, which may lead a waste of human resource and money. This case shows the importance of collaborating between all departments in business. After reading this case, bunch of questions jump out of my mind: would I approve the call center project if I were Boston? If yes, what kind of benefits will bring to company? If no, why? Admittedly, call center project was very important and valuable, but so were many others considered by BPOC. So the main questions for approving call center project are: would its benefits are much more than risk? Would it against other projects? Would it also benefit to other functional areas? How much will it cost- the percentage in total IT budget, people and training cost? To answer the question of if I will approve call center project, I need the answers of the questions I mentioned before. However, I can’t get perfect answers for these questions. Besides, the most urgent thing for Cisco now is to upgrade its ERP project. Even though Cisco had ERP system to store all the data, there was no common business logic allowed all the applications to read and interpret the raw data in a consistent manner. So it is more important to upgrade ERP system to capture more and accurate information about the customer. It would be better if Cisco do the ERP upgrade first, and then consider the call...

Numerous white papers are circulating on the Internet highlighting the business case supporting the IoE initiative. For instance, in a white paper conducted by Cisco Inc. on the Value Index of IoE in 2013 reported the following: In February 2013, Cisco released a study predicting that $14.4 trillion of value (net profit) will be at stake globally over the next decade, driven by connecting the unconnected –people-to-people (P2P), machine-to-people (M2P), and machine-to-machine (M2M) - via the Internet of Everything (IoE). Cisco defines the Internet of Everything as the networked connection of people, process, data, and things. The IoE creates new “capabilities, richer experiences, and unprecedented economic opportunity for businesses, individuals, and countries” (The Internet of Everything, Cisco, Inc. 2014). With such a lofty goal looming, and the monetary potential, many sources will support the notion of companies scrambling to achieve a computing networking infrastructure that supports the IoE paradigm. Envisioning the potentials, ABC Inc. does not want to experience losses common to companies that hold to that wait and see rationale which have plagued many IT service providers in the past. However...

...9-605-015 REV: AUGUST 20, 2007 ANDREW MCAFEE F. WARREN MCFARLAN ALISON BERKLEY WAGONFELD Enterprise IT at Cisco (2004) On a Monday morning in March of 2004 Brad Boston, CIO of Cisco Systems, was preparing for a meeting with the six other members of Cisco’s Business Process Operating Committee (BPOC). This group of senior executives met twice each month to review and prioritize key initiatives that impacted the entire company. Since its first meeting in 2002, BPOC had focused its attention on several major enterprise-wide projects such as upgrading the company’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and developing a comprehensive customer database. As these projects started to wind down, the committee began considering new proposals that typically fell into one of three categories: “one-off” programs with specific short-term goals, “must-have” programs mandated for regulatory purposes (such as Sarbanes-Oxley compliance), and bigger enterprise initiatives that had to be prioritized relative to other projects with high resource requirements. Although BPOC did not fund the projects it approved, the committee’s recommendations deeply affected Cisco’s overall commitment to various IT initiatives. As Boston thought about the projects that were going to be covered at the next BPOC meeting, he knew that one request had the potential to generate a great deal of discussion. Cisco’s customer advocacy group was proposing an overhaul of Cisco’s call center processes—the group wanted...

...Cisco Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI) Reference Architecture October 5, 2010 What You Will Learn Enterprise IT departments are pressured to control costs, improve manageability, enhance security, and speed-up the deployment of new capabilities while supporting a consistent user experience across diverse endpoints. Desktop virtualization (DV) has become a popular solution for addressing these needs. With hosted DV, the end-user’s desktop experience (operating system, applications, and associated data) is abstracted from the physical endpoint and centralized. The user’s desktop image is hosted as a virtual machine on a data center server. Users can access hosted virtual desktops from anywhere through DV appliances, smart phones, tablet computers, laptop and desktop computers, and other clients. Organizations deploying DV face many challenges, as the DV technologies potentially affect the entire IT infrastructure. To address these challenges, Cisco has developed Cisco® Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI), a comprehensive architecture for desktop virtualization. Cisco VXI, which uses three existing Cisco architectures, includes designs for virtualized data centers, virtualization-aware borderless networks, and virtualized workspaces, and the critical services needed to support these architectures. Cisco VXI reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO), streamlines operations, simplifies management, and positions organizations for growth. This document describes...

Select the two (2) most important and / or unique features of the chosen firewall, and explain the primary reasons why those features make the firewall a viable option in enterprises today. Justify your answer. ANSWER: I would use the Cisco ASA. I chosen the Cisco ASA firewall because I read an article in the past about it. I’m not all that familiar with the Cisco ASA, but I do recall some information. Plus Cisco is a popular organization and I usually use them as a resource because of their reputation and affiliation with the government and other large companies. The Cisco ASA firewall is a firewall that is used by the government and other large companies. As Cisco states, Cisco ASA Next-Generation Firewall Services include Cisco Application Visibility and Control (AVC), Web Security Essentials (WSE), and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS). Cisco ASA has the next-generation firewall capabilities and network-based security controls for end-to-end network intelligence and streamlined security operations. ...Cisco vs Coca Cola Tadeusz Czuprynski MGT 450 Date: 21 January 2012 For: Carol Jones Abstract: The basic purposes of this essay is to emphasis and culminate the principles of Acquisitions by describing the application of the knowledge learned, with the following companies of Cisco the technology giant and Coca Cola the soft drink giant. There are many specific goals that companies may be looking to achieve by dong this, but the main underlying reason is to guarantee the long-term sustained achievement of fast profitable growth for their business. They have to keep up with a rapidly increasing diversified global market and increased competition. Nowadays, with the struggle for competitive advantage becoming stronger and stronger, it is almost essential to form alliances. An acquisition is the purchase of one business or company by another company or other business entity. Consolidation occurs when two companies combine together to form a new enterprise altogether, and neither of the previous companies survives independently. Acquisitions are divided into "private" and "public" acquisitions, depending on whether the acquiree or merging company (also termed a target) is or is not listed on public stock markets. An additional dimension or categorization consists of whether an acquisition is friendly or hostile. Whether a purchase is perceived as being a "friendly" one or a "hostile" depends significantly on how the proposed acquisition is communicated to and...

...Cisco Systems Managing The Go To Market Evolution Cisco Systems Managing The Go To Market Evolution Analysis Company background (Cisco Systems): Cisco Systems is a world leading company in the switches and router market. Established in 1984 by a Stanford University couple, IT administrators Len Bosack and Sandy Lerner. Ina short period after founding, it became one of the most successful companies in high technology industry. In Cisco, manufacturing of its switches and router was outsourced, the company focused on core competencies: product design and development. Indirect sales and distribution through resellers became the major sales channel in the end of 1990’s; its “Value-Added Reseller” (VAR) was the most successful indirect sales channel strategy at that time. In later 1990s, Cisco had ever been the world’s most valuable company, its market capitalization exceeded $500 billion in 2000, and sales reached $18 billion. With the telecom and dot-com crash in 2001, Cisco’s business was hugely affected; $1 billion loss was reported in 2001. The shrunken market made Cisco’s management completely review and revamp its go-to market strategy. Market and Products: Cisco’s major products are switches and routers. A switch is used to connect workstations within a local-area network (LAN). The switch directs data only to the destination for which it is intended, and increases the efficiency of networks by reducing traffic and the number of “collisions” of data headed in opposite...
