Introduction The purpose of this project is to examine Entrepreneurial Leadership at Five Guys burgers and fries. According to Boones and Kurtz (2012), business can be defined as all profit-seeking activities and enterprises that provide goads and services necessary to n economic system. (pg. 5). Likewise, according to Boones and Kurtz ) 2012) , Entrepreneur is defined as a person who seeks a profitable opportunity and takes the necessary risks to set up and operate a business. Leadership, according to Boones and Kurtz (2012), is defined as the ability to direct or inspire people to attain certain goals. (Pg. 233). From these terms we will try to create a meaning for the terms Entrepreneurial Leadership. However, according the Fernald, Solomon and Trabishy (2005) , Entrepreneurial Leadership deals with concepts and ideas which are often related to problems that are not of an organizational nature. As a result, in the upcoming project, I will discuss how these factors, in relation to Five Guys Burgers and fries.
How does Five Guy philosophy sets it apart from other fast-food chains? After evaluating the reading, I think Five Guys philosophy was to concentrate solely on food and serve freshly made food to its customers. This philosophy came under the criteria of Factors of Production. According to Boones and Kurtz (2012) , Factors of Production is defined as the four basic inputs for effective operation: natural resources, capital, human resources and entrepreneurship. (Pg. 7).
I believe this is their philosophy because according to the reading, their approach to reaching their customers and maintain them was through concentrating on food, by giving the customers the customers fresh products and also the choice to choose. This s the role of the Factors of production as in the natural resources state, it speaks of production inputs that are useful in its natural state, just as the beef for the burgers at Five Guys.
Capital is another key factor and this includes information and other physical facilities needed for the production, just as the Five Guys restaurants were designed for this.
Human resource is the next input and just as the others are, this also is very important in the economic system. Human resource is anyone who works with the business and the entire staff at Five Guys has played a very integral role in their success. Finally, entrepreneurship is the other Factor of production. Entrepreneurship is the willingness to take risks to operate the business. The operators of five guys took showed this when they took risks in their products, some of which worked and others did not. An example of this Factors of production is in the production of Apple Ipod touch. According to Tim Heese (2011), the factors of production are very important in the sales of the Ipod Touch and just as the operators of Five guys took a risk to in their products to give customers something new, so did the owners of Apple in the making of the Ipod Touch.
What are the original values for the start up company and how it remains strong today?
After reading the article, I found the values for the start up company to be that they did not just want to offer the same product but that they wanted to offer something better. In this case, the vision f seeing what the customers needed was very important. According to Boones and Kurtz (2012), Vision is defined as the ability to perceive marketplace needs and what an organization must do to satisfy them. (pg. 23). This goes with Five Guys because before the start of the company, the owners realized what exactly the marketplace was missing (in freshly made products) and offered that to the customers who accepted and continue to accept it. An example of this is the Icloud Apple service. According to Joe Desposito (2012), the Icloud service is a game changer. In this case Apple had seen what was missing by its customers and took a chance to offer it to customers.
What three factors contribute to Five Guys success in such a short time and what effects does external markets on these? I believe that the three factors that contributed to the success were the fact that, (1) their beef were always fresh and never frozen. (2) they concentrated on their food and (3) they ensured customer satisfaction. I also believe all these factors fall under the criteria of supply and demand and this had a lot to do with the external market. According to Boone and Kurtz (2012), supply can be defined as willingness and ability of sellers to provide goods and services while demand is defined as willingness and ability of buyers to purchase goods and services. (pg 73). I believe this falls under supply and demand because the owners of Five Guys realized what was demanded by customers-freshly made food and good customer service, and then provided them with it.
The external market played a major role because the external market was responsible for providing the freshly made beef and other products. An example of this is with chipotle. When consumers demanded freshly made food, chipotle offered it and kept their customers. According to Irena Asmundson (2012), in any market, between a seller and buyer, the price of the good or service is determined by supply and demand. Here both markets were similar where freshly made products were demanded by customers and supplied by both businesses that kept their customers.
How is ethical and social practices a part of Five Guys culture and provide examples to support your choice?
I believe ethical and social practices are a part of Five Guys culture. According to Boone and Kurtz (2012), consumerism is defined as public demand that a business consider the wants and needs of its customers in making decisions. I think the fact that the public thinks that more lean meat is healthier and then Five Guys having that available shows that Five Guys strongly believe in healthier society and continues to. According to Jim Rile (2012), businesses cant be ethical if they support suppliers who are not ethical themselves.
Conclusion
In closing, I do believe that Entrepreneurial Leadership have had a huge impact on the growth success of Five Guys. I believe the owners noticed what was missing in the market and what was needed by its customers and implemented these using the Factors of Production into their vision while utilizing the whole supply and demand chain in order to satisfy their customers. They also ensured consumerism and this allowed for customers to be satisfied and continued their support of the business. I strongly believe that more businesses can be this successful if they take similar approach towards the customers. After all, customers are what that keeps the business striving.
