...Reading Reaction Paper #8 I thought that when Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus stated, “Saving Venice has meant creating Venice, not once, but many times since it’s founding” was a very powerful statement. I have visited Venice multiple times, and even in my short existence I have seen changed in the city. The rising sea is a huge environmental issue for Venice. In 2014 Venice will have completed the construction of 78 mobile floodgates that are aimed at protecting Venice’s three inlets from the rising tides of the Adriatic Sea. I found it astonishing that Venice has had to recreate their infrastructure more then any place in the world. I thought the article “Evolve” was very interesting when they talk about how technologies over the course of human history have not only been created by us, but they have been perfectly natural, and they helped create us. Its almost hard for me to believe that humans have physically evolved differently in order for us to be better adapted for tool use. As our bodies are evolving so is our ability to modify our environment. We over used what was given to us, and over hunted animals to extinction. It’s truly sad what we have done to this earth, but it is not entirely our generation’s fault. Even up to 300 years ago the earth was being profoundly shaped by human endeavors. Although the difference between the environmental issues that we are experiencing, and those that human experienced 300 years ago, is that many people today are turning...

...MGT 498 July 8, 2013 Environmental Scan Two main companies that come to mind when looking into an environmental scan is, Coca Cola and Pepsi. Both companies have been around for over 100 years and still counting. For a company to stay up and strong for that amount of time must conclude to be doing something right. As in many organization, there are up’s and down’s, how a company comes out of its failures allows you the ready to understand and learn. Coca Cola has been in business since 1886, and has had several modifications to its product. People are magnetized to just the name alone; it is an iconic soft drink that has a grasp onto its consumers. Coca Cola seems to be one to hold onto an older generation. Compare its self to some other top brands that many are accustom to, such as; Microsoft, Starbucks, Pepsi, and Apple. Coca Cola has value within its customers because of its history, ask someone when they hear the word Coca Cola, many will use such terms as, Polar bear, and Santa. Coca Cola has used many ways to remind people to purchase Coca Cola. Coca Cola uses such as in their mission statement alone, “To refresh the world, to inspire moments of optimism, and happiness, and to create value and make a difference” (The Coca Cola Company, 2013). Coca Cola’s mission statement takes a new outlook to where and how people feel and how they mark their consumer. Coca Cola holds itself within a balance of the upper most selling soft drink brands. Coca Cola sustains...

...Terry Smith HRM/531 Human Capital Management XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, Jr., PhD MEMO MANAGERIAL BEHAVIOR INTER CLEAN Memo To: Supervisors From: Terry Smith CC: Rachel Wicked Date: 4/12/2010 Re: Managerial behavior Team as you aware of the merger that will take place very shortly with Enviro Tech. It is important that as leaders we handle this transition with professionalism, a positive attitude, and confidence. The way we conduct ourselves through the merger will set the tone for the rest of the work force. The merger will present many challenges, apprehension, uncertainty and in some workers fear. A few of the reasons you reached the level of becoming a supervisor/leader (they are synonymous) is because you have proven to be trusted in making the right choice in hard decisions, you conduct yourself as a professional, demonstrate excellent people skills, and is not afraid of hard work. I need for you all to continuing exhibiting the same work ethics during this exciting time. When your workers see that you are positive, upbeat, and productive they will have the same attitude. If you show signs of stress, negativity, and poor behavior. The employees will think that something is going wrong. They might start thinking the worst including that personnel cuts will occur. What we will end up with are unhappy people who will lead to decreased work productivity and chaos. We will continue to practice and uphold our social, moral, and legal responsibilities during the...

...InterClean and Enviro Tech Merger HRM 548 - Recruitment and Retention Practices August 5, 2013 InterClean and Enviro Tech Merger InterClean, Inc. is a strong player in the $8 billion institution and industrial cleaning, and sanitation industry. For InterClean to become a major player and increase its profitability, it is vital for the company to evolve with the industry. InterClean is exploring ways to increase the service based division of the organization. With the recent acquisition of Enviro Tech and its personnel, InterClean can do just that. The company must consider, however, how to redefine sales staffing and customer service, as well as restructure the organization to achieve maximum profitability. With a strong strategy, InterClean can easily attain the sales goal of a 40% increase in profitability over the next year. Rightsizing, or downsizing, in an organization is always a difficult decision, even when it is the “right” decision. Before moving forward with any rightsizing efforts, InterClean should consider all options. Currently, InterClean has 45 employees, half of which have one year or less experience with the organization. With the acquisition of Enviro Tech, there are now an additional 50 employees, all of whom have 5 years or more experience. One option would be to absorb the Enviro Tech employees into the InterClean sales team, using their education and experience to assist with the development of the current employees. With 90% of the Enviro Tech staff...

...InterClean Enviro Tech Merger Paper Shari Arthurton HRM 548 LJ Elliot 2-13-2012 Introduction InterClean has begun a new shift in their strategic plan. The new direction of the company is one focused on a “solutions and service model” through the creation of “full-range service packages” that are designed to meet the individual needs of each client (University of Phoenix, 2012). In concurrence with the new strategic plan, Interclean has merged with Envirotech. InterClean has made a big decision by merging with EnviroTech, which will allow them to sell cleaning products and evolve them into an environment friendly full-service cleaning business. As with any merger, there will be the need to be an evaluation of the options available in relation to workforce planning that is aligned with the organizational goals of InterClean. Interclean will need to determine if rightsizing is a viable option. In the event of job elimination, a plan must be developed to ensure the process is conducted ethically and legally, and if there is an involuntary separation, what steps need to be taken. Viable Options Whenever there is a merger between two companies, it is up to the purchasing company to figure out a way to intertwine both workforces. In this case, EnviroTech has decided to shift their strategic direction to Interclean. The new strategic goal of InterClean requires a need to provide new training to...

...will provide both tangible financial benefits as well as intangible technical and subjective benefits. This document highlights some of the benefits that our clients have seen from implementing Enviro Data and Enviro Spase. We will first report specific cost savings that have been reported by clients, and apply these financial benefits to several scenarios. We will then discuss the intangible benefits, both technical and subjective, of installing an EDMS or GIS system. Finally, we will help you calculate the specific financial benefits for your company, and provide thoughts about recovering the cost. Specific Cost Savings for Enviro Data Implementation One Enviro Data user at a large industrial company reported that her time to process electronic deliverables from laboratories decreased from 30 minutes to 5 minutes per file after they implemented and enforced a data transfer standard and a closed-loop reference file system so that the laboratories delivered clean data. Since the data administrator was handling about 300 files a year, this translates to 125 hours per year saved, for cost savings of almost $6,000 per year just for that one task. Additional savings were realized in increased efficiency in selecting and reporting data. Another client told Geotech that using Enviro Data for his reporting saves him 4-6 hours per day. He spends about half of his time doing data reporting, and bills at the rate of $80 per hour, so the software is saving him 650 hours per year...

...be confused with the value of customers to businesses” (Wise Geek). A product or service can provide value in many ways as long as it refers only to the value that the customers receive, not to how valuable customers are. Not only does using value let the customer save money customer it can also save the consumer time by providing a benefit that may not been obtained without the product or increase the value of something the customer already owns. “Businesses of all sizes use customer value as part of a greater analysis to determine how well they are serving their customer base” (Wise Geek). There are several organizations that have taken on the concept of making their companies focus on “customer value” first such as Cheers Auto, PetCo, Enviro-log. When David and Randall founded Cheers Auto, they had the idea that they wanted a business with a “neighborhood auto repair facility that you, the customer, would feel...

...Why the Highest Price is not the Best Price? It is about how to practice ‘value based pricing’ that support profits and promotes better relationships wth customers Accoring to them Value based pricing means finding out what the value is your offerings realtive to competitors and then charging as high as they can But t,s value based pricing usually shortsighted in 2 respects: 1)It does not consider the profiting from delivering superior value that may result in greaterprofitability 2)It weakens customer relationship Resim fiyatkasa temalı CASE:Electron Instruments manufactures scanning electron microscopes (SEMs).In 2007 as a new initiative Electron developed and introduced a desktop SEM They believed this desktop SEMs vastly superior to the next best alternative Japenese, but they did not conduct any customer value research their belief based on qualitative feedback from a few beta tes customers who were familiar wth SEM technology and most of them was the top customers of expensive SEMS They decided to sell these SEMS %25 higher then the price of the next best alternative. But the sales were not as good as they thouht So because of these poor results they decided to investigate what cause that.Marketing discovered that even they were not wrong about easy use of desktop SEM sor technological properties but their prospective customers did not evaluate them at the same way.Furter marketing discovered the close systme design whşich doesnt allow upgrades such as...

...“Eco- activists” were born out of the necessity to protect the environment against the landowners and real estate developers who were profiting from the landscape around Los Angeles. These eco- activist developed laws to help fight development. This is how the “enviro-crats” came to be. They were the administrators of the new laws created by the “eco- activists” that were there to protect the environment. These people had to navigate in such political atmosphere which was heavily influenced by the landowners and the developers. Although it would prove to be tough, it was not impossible. There were “enviro-crats” in state and local government and in the federal land agencies in the U.S. department of the interior. They were all playing a game of chess in the urban development of Southern California. A perfect example of this was seen when Bob Hope decided he wanted to sell Jordan Ranch to developers. The L.A. County Board of Supervisors was developer- friendly and permitted subdivisions to be built all over the mountain because developers were willing to pay top dollar for land, it was a lucrative business. But Park services could not match developers dollar –for- dollar even when funds were available to purchase land. So, if the envirocrats hoped to save any piece of land they would have to find another way to get the results they were seeking. This is how they developed their deal making approach. They made deals with developers to donate or sell property at a discount. One...
