Financial reporting in a medical office or a healthcare organization relies on financial data to be close to real time as they can get it. The financial reporting has advantages such as analysis, visualization, and assistance in decision-making ("Financial Reporting", 2009). Chief financial officers use the financial reporting to help identify the profits and the cost of the healthcare organization. Financial reporting will lead the financial personnel to quantified, data-driven choices which will benefit them with accurate planning, forecasting, and budgeting ("Financial Reporting", 2009). Koss Corp was a company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that manufactured stero headphones, speaker phones, computer headsets, wireless headsets, and much more. The case of Koss came about because of inaccurate financial ststements, books and records, and the lack of adequate internal controls from the years of 2005-2009. Two of Koss former employees, Sujata Sachdeva and Julie Mulvaney were the ones to engage in a wide-range of accounting fraud to cover up Sachdeva's embezzlement scam. From the lack and inadequate internal controls and failures in overseeing the accounting and financial reports by the CEO and CFO they were able to embezzle a huge amount of money. Throughout my research I will write a paper in which I must assess the failures of the firms accounting information system to prevent the related fraud/ embezzlement; Also, evaluate the effectiveness of Koss stakeholders in the event that a third-party accounting system suffers a breach. ...CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY The mass media, most especially television have gradually become a part of our daily lives, and sources of information, education and entertainment have been described as the primary functions of the media. Lasswell (1948) as cited in Folarin (2005, p.74) assigns three functions to the media: i. Surveillance of the Environment (the news function). ii. Correlation of the different parts of the Enviroment (the editorial function). iii. Transmission of the cultural heritage from one generation to the other (the cultural transmission function). The focus of the researcher in this study is not only on the entertainment function of the media, but the role the entertainment media especially television, plays in shaping social behaviour among teenagers in the society. Stephenson (1967) a British psychologist, as cited in Folarin (2005, p.170), divides man’s activities into work and play. The former involving reality and production, while the latter deals with entertainment, relaxation or self satisfaction. He further says that people use mass communication more as play than as work, more for pleasure and entertainment than for information and serious work. Folarin (ibid) corroborates this view by saying that one constant criticism of television in Nigeria is its focus on entertainment rather than on development purposes.
