Asus - Essentio Desktop- $999.99
RAM-12Gb
Hard Drive- 2TB
Processor Speed- 3.2GHz (With Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz)

Dell - Inspiron Desktop- $339.99
RAM- 8GB
Hard Drive- 1TB
Processor Speed- 3.5GHz

Acer - Aspire 11.6" Laptop- $338.24
RAM- 4GB
Hard Drive- 500GB
Processor Speed- 1.6GHz

Lenovo - 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7- $899.99
RAM- 8GB
Hard Drive- 1TB
Processor Speed- 2.0GHz (with Turbo boost up to 2.6GHz)

A Doctor would use the Lenovo - 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7 because in this field the doctor is sometimes required to travel from place to place, such as different hospitals, Clinics, offices. So a laptop would be best for them because it be easier to take with them on there travels. Having to use a laptop and the number of patients a doctor has and the specific information on that patient requires them to have a larger hard drive size and a more RAM and a faster processor so this laptop would be most useful to a person in this field. A Lawyer would who works in a law firm would spend long hours in a office preparing for a case, so the computer most useful to them would be the Asus - Essentio Desktop. Lawyers can have many clients and work more then one case at a time so they would need to store all the specifics on their case and the information on the person involved in the case they are working on so I feel this desktop would be best for their office because ot has a large hard drive capacity and a good memory capacity. A Physically Scientist would use Acer - Aspire 11.6" Laptop and I feel this laptop would be good for them because in this specific field of science they do more time planning and conducting experiments to investigate and analyze scientific phenomena, writing up results in reports and/or scientific papers or books; maintaining accurate records of results, so they wouldn’t need as large of a hard drive or RAM because they mostly right down their findings and conduct experiments, they don’t work as much with a computer as the others job fields would.

Policing

...while emerging as a new industry, is not a new phenomenon and predates the existence of public police as witnessed today (Wilson 1994). Public and private policing have many similarities, as well as differences and the distinction between public and private police are often blurred. Private police look and behave like public police and describing their function often involves a comparison of the activities and responsibilities of the two. Despite the differences, public and private police tend to mirror each other to a certain extent (Nalla & Newman, 1990). The increase of private policing has been in response to many changes in society such as the increase of "mass private property" (Shearing and Stenning, 1983) in the form of large shopping complexes, cinemas, large retail stores and large compound style housing estates or gated communities. These require constant surveillance for the safety of shoppers and residents. In fact, adequate security has become one of those value-added extras that attract customers and residents. Technological advances, such as high-tech video surveillance cameras, computers, mobile phones, and satellites have increased the need an increase of security personnel for monitoring, investigating and analyzing. Private policing has been described in many different aspects such...

Corpus Linguistics and Language Pedagogy

...Corpus linguistics and language pedagogy: The state of the art – and beyond Joybrato Mukherjee Justus Liebig University, Giessen Abstract The present paper provides a selected overview of the state of the art in corpusinformed language pedagogy. Starting off from a general assessment of the impact that the corpus revolution has already had on English language teaching (ELT), the focus of the main part of this paper is on some typical examples of corpus use in three language-pedagogically relevant areas: (1) using corpora for ELT (e.g. producing learner dictionaries); (2) using corpora in the ELT classroom (e.g. in data-driven learning); (3) using learner corpora. With regard to learner corpus research, for example, the paper also sketches out some prospects for future research, e.g. the compilation of local learner corpora. 1 Introduction: the corpus revolution and English language teaching There is general agreement among empirically-oriented linguists that the advent of large, computerised corpora has revolutionised the linguistic description and analysis of the English language. In modern corpus linguistics, not just any group of texts qualifies as a corpus, but it must be "a collection of texts assumed to be representative of a given language, dialect, or other subset of a language" (Francis 1982: 7). Representativeness is a key issue in corpus design because it captures the attempt to compile a database that provides a statistically viable sample of language...
