` In The Veldt and There Will Come Soft Rains, Ray Bradbury suggests that machines can serve as both a help and a hinderance. Some people believe that technology can help the world develop and is able to help everyone's lives “better”. What they don't’ think about is the long term effects of overuse of technology. Bradbury explains what he believes to be a consequence of the over development of technology through two short stories that will be described in this essay. The two stories have many differences as well as similarities. However, all together they both explain what life could be like if people let technology “take over”.

This room shows a very lifelike version of any location that you pick. Although this room is fake, this one location that Bradbury describes seems very realistic, almost too realistic. The parents living in the house realize how realistic this room seems when they walk in to see what the room is like. Bradbury explains how the parents are able to feel the African heat, smell the fresh meat that the lions are eating, and hear all of the sounds in the scene. Before this African projection, the room would show Aladdin and his magic lamp or other “safer” scenes. The parents end up locking the nursery because of the fears it gives them. They fear for the children’s safety forgetting that Africa is only a projection and it is them who is giving it reality. In “The Veldt” the children are very misbehaved and are not very respectful to their parents. This shows that when you take away the parenting from the parents and give it to technolgy, your children believe that they no longer need to listen to their parents and no one is parenting them anymore. This is the same problem that has risen in “There Will Come Soft Rains”. The family has let technology taken over their lives through the belief that technology is able to complete many tasks. Although, a similarity between these two short stories is that both of the houses have no feelings. As said in the previous paragraph,
