In the book Stonewall’s Gold by Robert J. Mrazek, many characters play a big role in the plot of the story. In particular, Corporal Blewitt provides suspense and intensity throughout the first few chapters. Corporal Blewitt was initially friendly to both Jamie and his mother. Underneath, he had many problems such as his addiction to alcohol. Corporal Blewitt assured Mrs. Lockhart that he would be out of their house as soon a Mr. Lockhart returned from the war. But sure enough, when Mrs. Lockhart tried to kick him out he would not budge. He becomes unkind, angry, and hands on toward the Lockhart family. Things go too far one night and Jamie snaps. Jamie did what he had to do so that his family was safe. Next, Corporal Blewitt greatly contributes to the plot of the novel. He provides mystery and suspense, without the Corporal there would not be a book. Jamie would not known about the map if he had not followed the Corporal to the graveyard. The secret of the treasure would lie with Blewitt’s body. Mrazek writes, “Actually my mother turned the pouch inside out to see if there might be something hidden in the lining that she found the map.”(32). Jamie followed Blewitt to the graveyard to see what he was doing, but if Jamie did not kill the Corporal then the hunt for treasure never would of occurred. Finally, Corporal Blewitt drastically changes throughout the first few chapters. Blewitt is nice and kind when he shows up at the Lockhart’s house. Soon he becomes very unkind and hands on towards Mrs. Lockhart. Blewitt has a sudden outburst and we realise that he is a drunk. Mrs.Lockhart explains to Jamie, “‘ Something has happened to Corporal
