...In Elie Wiesel's Holocaust memoir Night, Elie witnesses the dehumanization of the Jewish people by the Nazis as he experiences the loss of his humanity by the Nazi party.Elie first experiences dehumanization when he is forced into living in the local Ghetto in his hometown of Sighet Transylvania. As he is deported from the Sighet Ghetto, the Hungarian Police pack the Jews into the cattle cars where they experience brutal conditions and many die. After their long and grueling trip to the concentration camp they are subject to more dehumanization in the form of slave labor and mass killings of their friends and relatives. Thus being a few of the may reasons why dehumanization is a terrible act that cannot be allowed Dehumanazation was a terrible...

...Night Essay According to dictionary.com, fear is a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. Fear is an emotion known far too well for the Jews during the holocaust. Nazis have taken over their lives and left them with nothing, but fear. Jews fear for the lives of themselves and their loved ones. Elie Wiesel was a lucky individual that got to escape this fear. His book Night describes the trepidation of physical abuse, the consternation of stolen identity, and the apprehension of the way they are transported. Night has an overall theme of dehumanization. The Nazis take away all of the Jews human qualities in three ways that cause their fear....

...Dehumanization Essay Dehumanization can be described as a behavior or process that undermines the rights and individuality of others. Fredrick Douglas was born into slavery in 1817. He was often beaten and whipped. He lived a rough life as a slave. He taught himself how to read and earned his freedom. Solomon Northup unlike Frederick was born a freeman, he was then kidnapped and sold to the Red River region of Louisiana. For the next twelve years he was property of several different slave owners, where he was whipped and beaten. Before he was freed by some northerners. Dehumanization happened to both Fredrick Douglas and Solomon Northup in the 1800 hundreds, and they both had to persevere to overcome it. “They ain't hired help. They're my property.” - Edwin Epps. (1:43:01) Edwin Epps was a mean slave owner. We constantly whipped and beat his slaves. Patsy one of his slaves went to get soap from the neighbor because she picked twice as much cotton as any other slave, and when she got back she was whipped twice as much. He also raped her. He was often drunk, and when he was drunk he got angry and violent. He didn't see his slaves as humans but as property that he could do whatever he wanted with them....

...The book ¨Night¨ by Elie Wiesel is a nonfiction essay about his own personal life during the Holocaust and death march, which he both lived and survived through until his liberation. When the Germans first invaded Romania in 1940 Elie and his Family of his mother, father, and 3 sisters)were living there during that time period. The Germans would go on to persecute and dehumanize the Jewish people along with other groups such as Homosexuals,Gypsies, and the Jehovah’s witnesses. The Germans´ first thing on the agenda to accomplish after invading Romania was to create a separation of the Jewish people into what was referred as ghettos. On Page 11 of Night, the writer gives us a description of the Ghetto they were put into. For instance, Elie comments, ¨Little by little, life returned to ´Normal´ ¨The barbed wire that encircled us like a wall did not fill us with fear.¨ This act shows to the Jewish people that they do not belong to the “normal” part of society and the barbed wire just symbolizes their separation this can really make them question themselves as if people and the religion that they worship. Another example of how Germans showed a separation between the Jewish people and the ¨Other People¨ was on the night of Kristallnacht Nov 9, 1938-Nov 10.The night of Kristallnacht is a night in which Jewish businesses, homes, and places of worship (Synagogues) were vandalized looted and in some cases burnt to the ground....

...Arrishen Nanthakumar Ms. Mitchell ENG 4U0 7 November 2016 Night Essay Ellie Wiesel’s purpose of writing the night was to show the world the real horrors of the holocaust. Ellie successfully created an atmosphere in which the reader can achieve a heightened understanding of the horror of the holocaust. He uses literary devices, Diction and Syntax to show how it felt to be part of the holocaust. He wrote Night to not stay silent and bear witness to the holocaust. He used literary devices such as Alliteration, Foreshadowing and Irony to really make the reader feel like they were experiencing the same things Wiesel did in the holocaust. ...Holocaust Essay "Father just another moment. Soon we'll be able to lie down" (Wiesel 104). This was one of the last conversations with his father. Wiesel and family were transported to a Nazi occupied death camp in Poland around spring of 1944. This was during the final stage of the Holocaust (1933-1945). Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazi party. His plan was to exterminate all other races besides his. Hitler blamed the Jews for the lost war and the Great Depression from years prior. Being Jewish, Wiesel faced many challenges from surviving a work day, to finding a meal for him or his slowly deceasing father. Wiesel saw a lot of horror in his times in the death camp to shape him today. One personal insight I gained from reading the...

...Morgan Peoples English IV CP Blankenship 3/21/14 Maya Angelou Known as one of the most influential voices of our time, Dr. Maya Angelou is a global renaissance woman, a celebrated poet, novelist, educator and holds many other titles. She has proven the point that sex and race cannot hinder dreams and goals. In this paper, Dr. Maya Angelou’s failures as well as successes will be recognized and discussed. Born on April 4th, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Angelou was raised in St. Louis and Stamps, Arkansas. Maya Angelou's former name was Marguerite Ann Johnson. Maya got the nickname from her older brother Bailey, who had a speech issue and could not pronounce Marguerite (Longly, 2013). He started calling her Maya because he read a book on Mayan indians, and the name stuck. In Stamps, Dr. Angelou experienced the brutality of racial discrimination, but she also absorbed the unshakable faith and values of traditional African-American family, community, and culture (Angelou, 2012). Growing up in Stamps, AK, Angelou learned what it was like to be a black girl in a world whose boundaries were set by whites (Longly, 2013). As a child, she always dreamed of waking to find her "nappy black hair" metamorphosed to a long blond bob because she felt life was better for a white girl than for a black girl (Franks, n.d.). Despite the odds, her grandmother instilled pride in Angelou with religion as an important element in their home. Maya Angelou contributed to black history...

...To what extend the need of being perfect leads man to its own destruction? Perfection seen through the film “The Black Swan”. Claudia Patricia Villacís Galarza IB Code: 001421-054 Words: 3980 Abstract The research question of this extended essay is: To what extend the need of being perfect leads man to its own destruction? It is an analysis of perfection through the film The Black Swan. In the film the main character, Nina, is an obsessed ballerina who at the end destroyed her own life. I began the essay trying to prove that her obsession with being perfect is what leaded her to her destruction and death, but after analyzing the movie it all turned around. I based my investigation in reviews of the film, different type of articles; such as from doctors who give their opinion about Nina’s behavior. These ones in particular where the most important for the answer of my research question, because these doctors have analyzed the mental condition of Nina and together with my own opinion it helped me to come to a conclusion. I also focused on the opinion of various dancers about the film, because they are the ones that understand the world of ballet more than anyone else. At last there were also interviews with the director to explain why he decided to make this movie and what he was trying to prove through it. The movie was, of course my principal source, I applied the whole investigation in the analysis of the movie. Then after having read all that information and having...

...PHILIPPINE LITERATURE Philippine literature is the body of works, both oral and written, that Filipinos, whether native, naturalized, or foreign born, have created about the experience of people living in or relating to Philippine society. It is composed or written in any of the Philippine languages, in Spanish and in English, and in Chinese as well. Philippine literature may be produced in the capital city of Manila and in the different urban centers and rural outposts, even in foreign lands where descendants of Filipino migrants use English or any of the languages of the Philippines to create works that tell about their lives and aspirations. The forms used by Filipino authors may be indigenous or borrowed from other cultures, and these may range from popular pieces addressed to mass audiences to highly sophisticated works intended for the intellectual elite. Having gone through two colonial regimes, the Philippines has manifested the cultural influences of the Spanish and American colonial powers in its literary production. Works may be grouped according to the dominant tradition or traditions operative in them. The first grouping belongs to the ethnic tradition, which comprises oral lore identifiably precolonial in provenance and works that circulate within contemporary communities of tribal Filipinos, or among lowland Filipinos that have maintained their links with the culture of their non-Islamic or non-Christian ancestors. The second grouping consists of works that show...

...Comics as Archives: MetaMetaMaus Hillary Chute | University of Chicago Abstract: In the view of some critics, the form of comics is a locus of the archival, a place where we can identify an archival turn. Art Spiegelman’s Maus first and perhaps most forcefully established the connection between archives and comics. His groundbreaking work documenting his father’s experience in WWII Poland, where he survived internment in Auschwitz, is a visual narrative based on oral testimony that consistently heightens our awareness of visual, written, and oral archives, and where they interact, overlap, or get transposed one into the other. Hillary Chute recounts and interprets her collaboration with Spiegelman in the process of assembling MetaMaus, a book compiling interviews and archival materials on the making of Maus. MetaMaus, argues Chute, reflects the tension between different kinds of extant archives—oral, written, photographic—and the cross-discursive work of (re)building new archives that motivates Maus. Its defining feature is that it shows the materiality of Spiegelman’s archive; it is about the embodiment of archives. The subject of Maus is the retrieval of memory and ultimately, the creation of memory…. It’s about choices being made, of finding what one can tell, and what one can reveal, and what one can reveal beyond what one knows one is revealing. Those are the things that give real tensile strength to the work—putting the dead into little boxes. – Art Spiegelman (MetaMaus...
