A recent hot topic within the news strand is that of gun violence and weapon rights. This topic has been debated and protested repeatedly. It was hot of the press following the mass shootings of Columbine, Sandy Hook, and more recently the mass shootings in Paris, France and California. Gun violence is a blistering topic that is debated with concern of the people and their safety in mind. Should adult citizens be allowed to carry concealed weapons? Should these same adults be allowed to own a personal gun? There are individuals that have strong belief in favor while others are against this argument. In a recent National Crime Survey, “467,321 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm in 2011 (Gun violence: National Institute …show more content…
It is important for us as Americans to stand for the rights we are given to bear arms. Considering the fact that we are at the mercy of compromising our safety one way or another, it is important to consider the facts and take a stance. Adults should be permitted to exercise their right to conceal carry because it discourages crime and is another form of protection for the people. In addition, the majority of Americans support the second amendment to the United States Constitution. The majority of adults who do choose to carry weapons are law-abiding and by no means misuse the rights that are given to …show more content…
A "shall issue" is a law that allows people to carry concealed weapons, but the granting of a license comes only after certain conditions are met, which has been previously laid out in the law. In certain states that have implemented such "shall issue" laws it was recorded there was a reduction of violence and crime in many areas. Concealed carry laws reduced murders by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7% and robbery by 3%, according to a 2000 analysis of FBI crime data (Concealed Guns). These numbers make it clear that when responsible adults carry concealed weapons, for whatever reason, it discourages other crime and violent acts from taking

...battle deciding if your pro government’s choice or hate it with all your guts with their decision. In order to have a peaceful and civilized society we must come to some mid point to accept and argue respectfully with there being no violence to stir up. Maintaining order, public goods, and equality all share one aspect and that is they all affect us everyday of our lives. Maintaining order and equality correlate with the peace and violence that occurs everyday in our society. Whether that be violent protest about equality or maintaining order from people doing whatever they want. The government should play a role in our lives because it ensures equal opportunity, regulations, and peace in our society. Equal opportunity exemplifies a conflicting problem for hundreds of years. As far back when there was slaves in the south and to this day equal opportunity has brought violent protest and many lives to be cut short. This...

...the ownership of assault weapons. These types of weapons, specifically rifles, have become quite a novelty for gun enthusiasts, but a very small number of the population has used these weapons to create scenes of horrific violence. Is there really a need for these types of weapons in our country? Would an actual ban produce the effects that most gun control activists envision? I personally feel that the blame cannot be put in just one place. When discussing gun violence, it can be argued that the weapons are not to blame, but the person who is in control of them. To contrast that way of thinking, fault can also be found with the types of semiautomatic weapons sold to the public and how easy they are to acquire. Assault weapons that would be subject the kind of gun ban that has...

Persuasive Essay On Gun Violence

...is incapable of understanding gun control as incremental regulation to increase public safety but rather, frames it instead as the eventual and absolute revocation of gun rights. Any reasonable suggestion to reduce gun violence such as requiring guns, which are after all lethal weapons, be kept secure is tantamount to gun seizure. It is inaccurate and is intended to incite fear and prevent rational discussion. Chris Christie, Donald Trump and gun advocates are wrong when they claim that increased guns laws result in increased gun violence and then point to Chicago. The problem with using Chicago as an example is that Chicago is not some discrete, hermetically sealed entity. It is a large, porous city surrounded by localities and states that have little or no restrictions on gun purchases. Most of the guns used in crimes in Chicago are purchased outside of Chicago in Cook County or in other states such as Indiana and Mississippi. The Harvard School of Public Health, unlike Christie, Trump, el al, has come to the...

Gun Violence Argumentative Essay

...In 2018 alone, the United States has suffered 17 school shootings (Ahmed & Walker). Gun violence is greater in the US than in any other first world nation. In fact, when compared to other nations, the number of gun-related murders in the United States are at an all-time high (bbc.com). This goes to show that more government involvement has been shown to be necessary for the current political climate. In the past, when Congress became more involved and banned assault rifles, there was a fewer number of gun-related crimes (Ingraham). Stronger background checks and a ban on assault rifles must be implemented by Congress in order to lessen the current rise of gun-related crimes, as it has been proven to work in various other states and nations....

...cause the eventual demise of our once great nation. This problem is gun violence. Which works much like an earthquake, as it can’t be predicted and hits the un-expecting citizens hard. But how might we as a nation prepare for these treacherous attacks by lunatics that in the end have clear motive? I believe I have the answer, in Japan where there are many earthquakes throughout the year; the children wear helmets to and from school. So why not apply that concept to the children of America. Much like the Japanese children who are trained to use their helmets effectively incase of an earthquake, we can train children to use guns that we give them in case of a shooting. Before tossing aside this argument as insulting, and...

Gun Violence In Schools Essay

...Our nation’s schools are expected to keep students safe; however, many students and their parents believe that unintentional injuries and outbreaks of violence can occur, causing an interruption in the student’s learning environment. According to Paul Timm, a school security expert claims that “guns and shooters are not always the dangers of school safety, instead the lack of strategies to attack such threats is the greater risk.” Many schools are improving their security by having lockdown drills, checking in visitors from outside and assigning students with Identification cards (Ids). However, students are still not safe. Researchers from Education week, believe that “gun violence in schools has increased tremendously in the past 6 years.” Each year hundreds of kids...

Essay On How To Reduce Gun Violence

...reduce gun violence "In the 1960's, there was one school shooting. In the 1980's, there were 27. In the 1990's, there were 58. In the past decade, there have been over 120" (Hoehn). The last 18 years have been experienced by too many shootings. We must take action to help stop gun violence. In furtherance of reducing gun violence, we must handle the problem of easy access to guns and address men's mental health. One way to reduce gun violence is to regulate the easy access to guns. In the article," How to Reduce Shootings", by Nicolas Kristoff in The New York Times Kristoff claims how automobiles could kill as many people as guns but they don't because we regulate them and limit easy access to automobiles. "We don't ban cars, but we work hard to regulate them - and limit access to them – so as to reduce the death toll they cause. This has been spectacularly successful, reducing the death rate per 100 million miles driven by 95 percent since 1921" (Kristoff). Regulations that could be added before accessing guns to help reduce gun violence are banning people under 21 to purchase firearms, background checks, and banning bump stocks. Cars have been regulated greatly since 1921 and the death toll has gone down to 95 percent for every 100 million miles driven, if we regulate guns the way we do with cars the death toll could also go down greatly and we wouldn't have to worry about these shootings happening. Additionally, we can also have tighter gun laws to help reduce gun violence...

Many people believe that because it is our second amendment right to own a gun that everyone should have one, but they are blind to the fact that it is too easy for the wrong person to get one. If you stroll down to your local gun shop to buy a gun you have a large arsenal to choose from. Anything from semi- auto assault rifles to powerful hand guns. Yes Chicago does have strict gun laws but can you use this to make a case for gun control? Just by looking at Chicago’s tough gun laws and its high rates of gun violence I don’t think you need proof that the problem can’t be legislated away.New Jersey governor Chris Christie offered a similar argument with gun control .Christie stated that “In many of the places around the country where they have the toughest gun laws, they have the highest violent crime rates. And we focus on a tragedy like this.It’s...

...Jasmine Vander Meide English 105 9/20/2015 Professor Goodman <Title> A Senate in the Gun Lobby’s Grip is an essay made to persuade people to join the lobby for extra processions for the purchasing of guns. Various events including gun violence are explained to show the reader that action needs to be taken to make guns more difficult to get. Even though Gabriel Giffords is credible through her experience in the senate the use of emotion and the lack of provable statistics A senate in the gun lobby’s grip is not Rhetorically persuasive When the senate bill to make background checks required for gun buyers was not passed by congress many people contested and the author of this article was one of them. People with personal connection to gun violence are very passionate as most victims tend to be. Gabriel Giffords was a victim herself. Her experience is what inspired her to write this article. It is important to realize the point of view is from a victim who has really strong feelings toward the subject. This article was designed to persuade people to pass the ball in order to keep people safe. Gabriel Giffords personal connection to gun violence inspires her thoughts in this article. For example using verbiage like “I’m furious” and “I will not rest” shows how much emotion is behind these feelings. The use of emotions can be very persuasive when it doesn't overpower the readers logic. If a writer chooses to use ethos primarily in a persuasive piece each emotional...
