Mass shootings throughout the U.S. is increasing at a rapid rate, but why? Almost 2 people everyday die because of mass shootings. In this year alone there have already been over 70 mass shootings in the U.S. resulting in 125 dead and over 140 have been critically injured. This is a very debated topic in the government today, and what can they do to reduce how frequent these attacks occur. The increase in these mass shootings can be linked to the lack of effective security measures and easy access to firearms. In your typical school, most do not have a school resource officer in the younger grades, leaving more susceptible to gun violence. In high school you often have 1 or maybe 2 resource officers in the building, but having people walking around in a school full of 2nd graders would terrify them. That is about 2 people a day dying in our country, not terror attacks, but our own American people, with mental issues. Criminal Justice Professor, Adam lankford, says that almost all shooters can be linked to 3 things, having a poor childhood, and growing up around drug and alcohol abuse. Most of the time, these kids were often bullied in school and left out of activities and regret and hate those people and they try to take it out on other people. That leads to the next point, the people who do these horrific things often want to prove something, and they want revenge on someone. A little more than 70% of mass shooters will often commit suicide after committing the crime (Wang, Tricia). This can be linked to a few things, often times, teenagers are emotionally unstable, and this can lead to actions that will often be regretted
