...Essay on Myself There are many people who are living in this world and everyone has different personalities. There are no two people who have the exactly same personalities. Everyone in this world is unique in their own ways. One’s personality is something that does not change which makes one unique and special. As for me, I am a responsible and sympathetic person, however, I am a self-centered person as well who may have made enemies with a lot of people. I am a pretty responsible person and I do what I am supposed to do. As now, I am a student in school, therefore I do my homework every single day and study for what I have learned at home. I also pay attention in class most of the time as well. Besides that, I organize my work as well. At home, I am a child, so I respect my parents and help them to do house works, such as doing laundries and washing dishes. I clean my room once a week as well because that is my responsibility as being a child. I also help out friends and classmates when they need help. I give out advices and suggestions to them when they need support and help as well. Generally, I can say that I am a responsible person who does my duties. Besides being a responsible person, I am also a person who is sympathetic. I have been a sympathetic person when I was really young. For example, when I walk on the street and saw some handicapped people or vagrants, I would help them by giving them money or whatever things that I can do for them to have a better living. When...

...An Essay About MYSELF Based on the influence of my Father’s lifestyle, whereby he grew up as one who is never afraid of trying out new things and taking steps towards achieving daunting tasks, I believe I developed an outstanding quality that best defines me as a RISK-TAKER – one who does not cower or considers impossibilities, but faces any given situation, without fear. During my first year in Secondary School, I got tired of the teaching method and temper of my class teacher and wrote to the School’s Principal, a ‘Composition’ on why she (my class teacher) should be replaced, despite the counter comments from my classmates who were afraid to even speak up. My letter was not ‘outrightly’ acknowledged though, and the whole scenario subsequently got dramatic, but I did not refrain from doing what I dared to do, because I do not stifle from taking steps towards achieving a desired goal or from making decisions regardless of the possible consequences or embarrassments and how unrealistic and unattainable they may appear, insofar as my actions are geared towards creativity and improvement. And like ‘a dog to a bone’, I am relentless and tenacious even in the face of setbacks, and do not believe that there is a problem or goal that cannot be solved or achieved, and whatever it will take, I dare to do it, especially because I am always in constant sought after activities that require fearlessness, bravery, and are considered “crazy”. I learnt to drive a car without a hands-on...

...A definition of myself. A seventeen year old female athlete in high school. That is what anyone walking down the street would say, but that random person walking down the street is not writing this essay. So, I am going to start over. A definition of myself. I am temperamental, I get aggressive, I tend to trust easier than I should, I forgive too easily, I am almost always angry, the glass tends to be half empty, I throw fits, my words tend to be venom, and I do not know who I am. I cannot pinpoint where I fit into society and what my purpose is. I do know that I am an aggressive teenage girl that runs Cross Country and Track, I am a girl that sings in my school's choir, I am a girl that tapes and bandages together wounded athlete in my school's athletic activities, I am a girl that enjoys listening to music so loudly that people have to repeat themselves at least twice before I can form a coherent sentence in my head, and I am a girl that is still trying to form a cohesive definition of myself....

...Essay #14 Cheyenne Bowey Once upon a time, I went to the library to pick out a book that stood out to me. Finally, after I was finished scoping it out,I chose Gamer Girl. When I was putting up the book up, I noticed I read the book for three hours straight! I realized I could not put the book down because the main character, Madeline Starr, reminded me of myself. If I had to compare myself to any fictional character, it would be Madeline, although she prefers to be called Maddy. We share many qualities, such as our fondness for anime, the hours we spend killing our brain cells with video games, and the struggle we had trying to fit into our new school after we moved. In sixth grade my friend begged me to watch an anime show by the name...

...In “Song of Myself,” by Walt Whitman, Whitman uses grass and a hawk as symbols to convey an underlying message of equality in America. During this time era, the 1800s, slavery was going on, meaning many racism was also going on. Whitman supports the idea of having equality for instance in the section, “A Child Said What Is The Grass?,” Whitman says, “Kanuck, Tuckahoe, Congressman, Cuff, I give them the same, I receive them the same” (Lines 11 - 12). This evidence reveals that Whitman did not care who you are, but that everyone would receive equal actions. Whitman says that all people should treat someone the same as you would want to be treated. If someone wants respect they should also treat others with respect. Whitman uses the slang terms for a French Canadian or African American showing that Whitman does not care if you are a different race....

...Hello, this might sound strange and out of the ordinary, but I am writing this letter to my younger self. I understand you are 14 and it’s hard to explain who I am, but to clarify who I really am… I am you. Yes, this sounds crazy, but I am you from the future. I am writing this letter to my younger self to inform you and teach you some information that can help you in the future about philosophy. Well let’s get started to begin with you must know two philosophers named Iris Marion Young and Marilyn Frye who view the word oppression differently. I am sure you might not know what the word oppression even means, but oppression is when people reduce the potential for other people to be fully human. In other words, oppression is removing someone’s power for relating to their sex, skin color, or heritage. One of the philosophers I mentioned earlier named Marilyn Frye was born on 1941 and is currently living in my time period. She believes the meaning of oppression has been stretched to meaningless. She explains how you can be miserable without being oppressed. She distinguished oppressions as four different theories given with each having its own regulations. - Double bind: Options are reduced to a very few and they lead to penalties and deprivation - The Birdcage: Physical confinement/segregation - Lack of solidarity: Dispersal and assimilation of women throughout economic classes and races also divides us against each other practically and economically, jealousy and resentment....

...English 125 April, 2nd, 2012 Synthesis essay Today we live in a society that is often called a "salad bowl". It is called a "salad bowl" because it consists of various different people from various different backgrounds. We all live together in a society, but we still retain our own distinct flavors which helps to contribute to the richness and diversity of society. Unfortunately, today we also live in a society in which some of these groups are marginalized and looked down upon by others. Hence, often times as individuals we feel the need to compromise the way in which we communicate our ideas so that we can appeal to the views of the majority. Two authors explore how their attempt to compromise almost caused them to become detached from their roots. In "Mother Tongue," by Amy Tan, Tan talks about growing up as a young child in America and learning the English language. She speaks about growing up as a writer and her mother's imperfect diction which had a major influence on her. On the other hand, In her essay, "Censoring Myself," Betty Shamieh talks about being an American playwright and having to censor herself because of how her work was viewed. Both authors explore the influence that their background had on their ability to express themselves. As individuals we should not be afraid to express ourselves because of our differences, rather we should use our differences and show how our distinctions make us very unique. Firstly, In ""Mother Tongue," Tan...

...comes to writing. The first thing is clarity. Before this class, I had the bad habit of artificially extending my essays by using fancy-sounding convoluted language. This worked in high school, I was able to get away with this method in order to artificially extend the length of my paper and make myself seem more intelligent than I actually was. When I started this class, I quickly learned that doing that was a bad idea. Over the course of the quarter, I have tried to be much more concise and to the point with my writing. This can be seen especially well in my research essay, where I try to avoid unnecessarily repeating myself and get right to the point after bringing in data. While I still do fluff out my...

...Myself in Writing Certain people don’t like to write and others can’t get enough of it. Personally, I swing both ways about writing. I enjoy being able to express my feelings down and share them with others, not all the time because there are some things I like to keep to myself. I love the idea of letting my ideas and thoughts stream out and come to the surface. Reading other people’s stories or thoughts inspires me to be free and write down how I feel. Sometimes it’s hard to express the feelings I get and how to incorporate them into words for others to comprehend, but I guess that’s the reason. To have others approach your feelings and figure out the emotions they capture through your piece of literature. Now, the part I dislike about writing is having to follow structure and regulations. I do understand why there are building blocks to literacy writing, I just don’t feel you get to allow yourself to come out of your shell as much. For example, me, I am writing this essay allowing myself to express what I feel and about my writing history, but it’s going by some guidelines of the class. The font, margins, and the minimum length of the essay are just the beginning of them. In high school I remember we had to write about how we felt about a book that was assigned in class, but we had to have a thesis statement, a full-circle ending, and it had to be 3 pages long. I did enjoy reading the book, the analysis behind the words and writing what we got out of the book. It...

Even more, I came into the class expecting to make my college essay the best it could be and that was it. I didn’t expect to have write any other essays, but in the end it worked out for the better. Throughout the semester, I was able to develop and nurture my writing skills. Not only was I writing to get into college, but also to prepare for college. However, my overall approach to writing has changed for the better since first beginning Writing Seminar. At first, I based my writing on the basic 5 paragraph technique, but as I progressed through the year, I realized that writing doesn’t really have a specific technique, but instead revolves around the idea of being able to flow. After basing my writing on flow instead of...

...Despite that throughout history it has always been shown in films from A Nation Reborn to literature To Kill a Mockingbird. Racism has always been questioned if it has played an effect in the court system. Because its is become more popular discussed in today society i feel it is important to get rid of it all together. While writing this essay on racism I found myself re questioning myself countless times as I did not wish to either contradict myself or come off as “strong left wing liberal” as some of the kids from our composition class would say. Throughout this essay I was doing countless research from the documentary on racism that we viewed in class to statistics regarding racism in the court system. I find that research in essay allows for us to gain knowledge in order to support our own ideas in the paper and to better grasp the realism of the pigeonholes that are present in our society today. The most valuable piece of evidence in my essay would be the interview I had with one of my former professors from high school who was a law teacher and was my mock trial coach. We read some Iowa court cases that were deemed to be racist primarily from the early fifties and late sixties when prejugdism and racism were much alive and well in the...
