Introduction

The use of Solar Thermal Energy to heat a house and maintain the hear within.
The current situation South Africa is facing is Load shedding and the threat of possible rolling black-outs. With winter looming ahead in a couple of months time and no end in sight from the load shedding schedules, people will be facing freezing temperatures and no way to keep what little heat we get during the day inside their homes during their scheduled load shedding.

Since 2003 the price of electricity has doubled and people with a low income can’t afford to buy all these new, fancy appliances so they are left using firewood or paraffin to cook with or to keep their shacks warm. There are a number a health and safety problems such …show more content…
• The use of solar energy reduces the use of appliances to heat the house and the rooms in it, therefore reducing your carbon footprint on the environment.
• The energy from the sun is twice as effective as wind and is available each and every day.

Disadvantages of a Solar House

• The initial cost to make your home more energy efficient is high but the overall saving can be seen on the bill at every month end.
• Very little or no sun, will result in very little solar power.
• As the solar house sits outside in the sun, it absorbs the suns energy and converts it to warmth. The insulation helps to retain the heat in the house and in its rooms.
• The larger windows allow more of the suns ray or energy into the house, but an open door lets out the warmth. The awning shading the window deflects the suns energy away from the house and less energy from the sun will be absorbed.
• The heat from the tin warms the room and with the aid of solar energy, the room will be heated more.
