1. What is the role of the Supreme Court?
The Supreme Court is responsible for ensuring that equal justice under the law and is both guardian and interpreter of the Constitution. Retired Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes mentions that “the Supreme Court is the highest tribunal in the United States for all cases and controversies that arise from the Constitution or the laws of the United States” (Linder, D. 2015).

2. What is the meant by "Judicial Review"?
The doctrine of Judicial Review was established in 1803, in Madison v. Marbury, and is perhaps the most important power that the United States Supreme Court has. Judicial Review is the authority of the Supreme Court to invalidate legislation or executive actions when the Court believes that it conflicts with the Constitution. This means that the Supreme Court may review actions or laws set forth by the executive or legislative branches which may conflict with the Constitution.

3. Explain the two theories of constitutional interpretation, the "living constitution" and "originalist". Which theory do you believe is the correct theory to follow?
There is always the conflicting argument whether the Constitution is a living document or not. Those who view the Constitution as a living document or “living constitution” believe that the constitution should and has changed with the passing of time, as new problems, technology, and the overall world has change since the days of the Framers. On the other hand, there are people who believe that the constitution should remain as the Framers originally wrote and designed it. These people are known as originalists and believe that no matter how many years pass by, or what new issues may arise, the constitution should remain simple and straight to the point, without any interpretation.
I believe that the Constitution is a living document which must change with time.

Personal Essay vs. Research Paper

...personal essays vs. research papers I found that a research paper addresses a specific question. It is based on research and mainly presents and defends an argument with support of relevant findings. A research paper requires gathering information, developing and organizing ideas and finally putting those ideas into a conclusion and is generally on an average between 3-5 pages long A research paper should have some important points. First of all, the purpose of research should be clear and should not have double meaning. Making it simple and original are two important things to have in your paper. It will help readers be able to understand exactly what your paper is about, it is important to keep the research specific. A research paper should discover a new idea and it should be of interest to others. And research papers also should be truthful, relevant, organized, resourceful and complete. A complete research paper must have some basic requirements. A title page with title of research, author's name, date, and school/university is one of the main requirements of a research paper. Some others are: introduction part: the introduction moves from a broad area of interest to the specific idea, method part: it provides a description of the study, result section: a clear description of findings and a discussion part and the reference part. An essay is a piece of writing, usually from a person’s personal point of view. An essay is focused on one question and an essay is...

Differences Between a Personal Essay and a Research Paper

...Personal essays and research papers are two different styles of writing but, both are important to practice in order to expand upon a students' writing skills. Personal essays allow a student to write about topics that are important on a personal level (Tanemura, 2010). This style of writing has less restrictions than a research paper because in a personal essay it is acceptable to write about opinions, feelings, or thoughts. A research paper must contain facts and information that are backed by external resources and written in a persuasive flow and void of personal opinion. A personal essay may be less restrictive but it is also beneficially so because it allows for exercising a broad range of the student's writing skills. Instead of gathering external information to strengthen an essay, the student must focus and probe their own mind to create the essay. Three key components to any good paper, regardless of the writing style, includes readability, persuasiveness, and honesty. A paper cannot be a success unless the targeted audience is at least able to read and comprehend the purpose of the paper. Any paper can benefit from increasing the reader's comprehension of the content. The next essential component is to not only ensure the reader comprehends your intended meaning but, make them be able to see your perspective. The third key to good writing is honesty. If your information in your paper isn't true or honestly obtained it cuts the integrity and weakens any good...

Paper Towel Experiment Essay

...In class, we did an experiment on which paper towel brand absorbs the best. My hypothesis was that If I test three different brands of paper towels, then Bounty will be the most absorbent. First, we took out one sheet of three different kinds of paper towels (Bounty, Viva and Great Value) and we cut them into 2 cm x 28 cm each. Next, we filled a graduated cylinder and we filled it to 25 milliliters, and we had to look at each tic mark on the graduated cylinder to make sure that our measurement was exact. After that, we put a strip of one of the paper towels into the graduated cylinder and we used an eyedropper to help push the strip of paper into the graduated cylinder. Then, we waited a few seconds to let the strip of paper absorb the water,...

English Reflective Essay

...Although there were specific instructions to not use second person I did not fully understand what that meant. Coming into English 1113, I had not been corrected on my point of view before. Whenever I received feedback on this essay, I learned to be more careful while writing my papers. In “Lean on Me,” there were more corrections made about my use of second person than in “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble.” In everyday conversation, I find myself speaking in second person rather than first or third. I am accustomed to using “you” and “your” instead of “he or she” and “his or hers”. My previous English teachers have not corrected any of my papers on its point of view. I had begun to learn how to correct myself and have others proof read my papers; however, on this particular paper, I failed to do so. Throughout “Lean on Me” I was continuously corrected on my use of second person in my writing. Based on what I have learned throughout English 1113, I am able to notice errors I have made by not writing my papers in either first or third person. During this course, I have developed into a better writer because I have learned from Mrs. Menetre’s corrections. In “Perceptions of Perfection,” I remained in first person for the duration of my...

Leadership

...to Improve Leadership Skills Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report Self-Reflection Essay What better way exists to examine key concepts of organizational behaviour than to reflect on one's own experiences and beliefs as they apply to workplace successes and failures? In this report, I intend to review a variety of theories relative to organizational behaviour by considering each in relation to my own experiences as a mid-level manager. This reflection will focus primarily on three themes including personality, working in groups, and leadership. Throughout this report, I will consider my own personal strengths and weaknesses, attempting to determine how each affected situational outcomes. Many of these strengths and weaknesses were highlighted through a series of self-assessment exercises completed as part of the "Prentice Hall Self-Assessment Library" (Robbins and Judge, 2007), the results of which will be regularly referred to in this report. In closing, I will summarize areas requiring continued personal effort in order to ensure ongoing development and both personal and professional growth. Essay on English 200

...Essay on English 200 Course Description and Objectives The purpose of this course is to fine-tune your academic writing process. We will work with They Say, I Say: The Moves that Matter in Academic Writing and other readings. I am most concerned with the use of language. In what ways can language be a powerful tool? How can it be a hindrance? How can language be used purposefully? Too often we forget the weight of the words we use and how we use them. In this class I want us to pay close attention to what we say and how we say things. We will also pay close attention to what we read and hear from others. Part of being a college student will involve partaking in discussions in class and through our essays and research. As such, we must be able to listen and read not only for understanding but also for application. We need to first understand what is being said and then figure out how to either respond or apply what we’ve heard. Note: During the course of the semester we might discuss controversial topics in class. While I expect some (most or all) of us will feel strongly about certain issues, we need to treat each other respect even if we disagree. Be careful with the words you choose and your delivery. We don’t have to agree but we do have to treat each other with respect. Objectives * Students will be familiar with writing for different audiences. Part of the UHWO GLOs (General Learning Outcomes) requires students to effectively communicate information for an intended...

College Writing Reflection

...Coming into my freshman year of college writing, I did not know what to expect. I was never a terrible writer, but knew I could always improve. College writing has helped me improve in many ways, and has let me identify my weaknesses and strong points as a writer. As the course went on, with the three different writing prompts we were assigned, I saw myself improving each time. Each person learns at their own pace and at their own time. For me, It took me a while but by the last essay, I feel more confident as a writer. I noticed my writing skills improving a lot by the third essay. I knew how to set up a thesis, subclaims and evidence with little to no trouble. I enjoyed writing the third essay because it was on a controversy. I decided...

...Guidelines for the Audience Analysis Paper Effective public speaking requires that a speaker consider the various characteristics of the audience and utilize insights from that audience analysis during the development and presentation of the speech. This paper provides an opportunity for you to conduct an analysis of the audience for your speeches in this course and discuss the ways in which you might use conclusions derived from that analysis in the development and presentation of a speech to them. Although the focus of your analysis is up to you, all papers should meet the following expectations: • The paper should provide 1) An analysis of the classroom audience (including a description of selected, relevant characteristics (demographic or situational) and how those characteristics may affect the audience’s reception of the speech you are planning in COMM 3; 2) A discussion of techniques you would utilize in the development and/or presentation of a speech to take those specific audience characteristics into account; and 3) Some consideration of the limitations or potential problems that might accompany the conclusions you have reached during your analysis of the audience. • In addition to whatever other evidence you use to support your claims in the paper, you must also make reference to the textbook in the form paraphrases or direct quotations. The textbook is the only source required for this assignment, although you may include additional research...

My Writing: My Experience As A Writer

...easier. One thing I have learned from reading many books is to have my writing authentic and unique because those are the writings that stick with you. I have written a research paper, persuasive essays, book reports, and a reflection paper. One of my mistakes in writing is that I don’t know how to stop. I used to write very long stories in elementary school and my teacher had told my parents that I ramble a lot in my writing. Ever since, I’ve tried to control that and I try to write clearly and concisely without making it too repetitive or redundant. I like when I can essentially “hear my voice” when I read my writing, which is why as much as I do respect and appreciate criticism on my papers, sometimes I find it hard to change my writing because I want it to sound the most like me....

Reflective Essay About White Feminism

...creative writing, I like to think of myself as a creative person. I had my doubts about taking a class that required so much writing in a little amount of time but I took on the challenge head first, just like I do with the rest of my problems. In my first essay I wrote my argument paper about how “white feminism” isn't as inclusive as it claims to be and discriminates against numerous minority groups. I chose this topic because it’s something I’m extremely passionate about. I’ve been officers of several social justice orhinatiocs and I’m always up for rallying for human rights. The arguments that I made in this essay were showcasing a couple of ways that “white feminism” left minority groups feeling left out and not worthy of a voice within social justice platforms. Such as Patricia Arquette giving a speech about how minority groups did not help out feminism, even though many people in minority also identify as women....
