The disputed about what the Sin is. Azatbek Alibaev
American university in Central Asia

The existence of philosophical sin during long centuries would be a great debate for each individual. Literally the comprehensions of the sin divine people’s min into two sides. But there is never pro or con side because every person explains according to his own life and private examples. Also it did not pass along our one of the most famous historic of philosophy Socrates and St. Augustine in their latest compositions. They say that the “Sin” is a thing that harms one’s life in abstract way. Basically Socrates in the “Apology” understands Sin just like an abandon during your self-development therefore he used to say “If you ever do not know anything about knowledge and afterwards just forget it and let it go” so this is a sin. On the other hand the Sin in Confessions by Saint Augustine is a new attempt, he proposes as sin, things which makes you proud. Since both characters have their own thoughts on something, and this understanding makes them really different. For example they both say about sins however they understand different things as a sin. These most incredible Greek philosophers such as St. Augustine and Socrates with ambiguous ideas disputed about what the Sin is. Moreover they have different views on how to look to Sin with different directions. St. Augustine’s book which is called Confession is autobiographic since it was written according his life, and after reading the Confession we can deduce that what were his understandings about sin in his different life ages. Moreover we can find out, how a sinful life he had and how could overcome his sinful life. The main point is that, he continued doing sinful actions even being acknowledged about sin. He liked doing sinful things; he was getting a pleasure when he was doing something which was forbidden and this continued until he went to university. At University he read many books where he found Cicero’s book which is called Hortensius. This book greatly changed his thoughts about sin and inspired him to believe in God. Also, it could think him to the ability of distinguishing between what is good and what is evil. Then, he reads other books which describe relationship of a people to god so, he starts to analyze his life and he described in the Confession about what he understood as a sin and what he then understand as sin.
In his composition, it is not challenging to find out his understandings about sin St. Augustine. He also concerned by what makes us make a sin and he mentions that an evil cause us to make sin and why does an evil exist and source of it, if the God is good. He directly mentions one of his understandings as a sin in his quote. “Prodigality presents a show of liberality; but thou art the most lavish giver of all good things. Envy contends that its aim is for excellence; but what is so excellent as thou?”

Quote states that his views on sins, he says that nothing is excellent as good in various aspects and making such things which will make you proud will be sin. For instance, trying to be generous or trying to be clever will be the great sin because only God is the cleverest and most generous. Even searching for wisdom and studying hard will be sin, according to St. Augustine.
All these were sin because he considered because this will make people to be proud.

Socrates is one of the most known characters of the ancient Greek. We can find out more information about him not only from his paper works but from his students such as Plato. In the Apology by Plato we can find out how genius man he was, however this differentiation brought him many problems. Socrates had really severe life because everybody was against him since he was fulfilling his divine mission which was to spread philosophy and he died because of his mission. He considered himself as a gad fly, which bites and makes something move, in his case he referred to the ignorant people. All his life he searched for wisdom and educated others to be wise. After the oracles words that he is the wisest he start to examine the people just in order to , find out person who would be smarter than him to prove that Oracle was wrong however he could not find out anyone. This only brought him problems and false accusations against because he was saying to the the truth and truth sometimes can heart the people. The as a result his life ends with wrong accusations and death penalty. In Apology, it is little bit harder to find what Socrates understood as a sin. However after reading the hole text we can draw conclusions based on his implies.

Socrates was really smart and outstanding person of the ancient times, being that much was really strange at that times and he wanted to share his knowledge with others because he knew that it will really useful and he thought this will make people develop however people did not understand. Therefor ignorant people were a great sin makers for him.

If St. Augustine was present in the trail of Socrates he would probably accuse him, because Socrates says that Oracle sad that there is nobody who is wiser then Socrates in the ancient Greece however for St. Augustine being wise was sin and especially being the cleverest because only the God is the smartest. He would not probably believe to the Socrates and accuse him that he is deceiving others and persuade other to do not go after Socrates and stay with that knowledge which you have. Socrates also mentioned that he searched for wisdom, again which was sinful to St. Augustine because only the God was the wisest. I think these two main characters are really controversial to each other, therefor I think that St. Augustine would accuse Socrates as a liar, sinner and with all accusations for what Socrates got a death penalty , because he would think that Socrates was against God and moreover he would corrupt others. Therefore, this proves that my two characters were really different.

In this life everybody has choice to do something and sometimes we have to choose between different things in order to go forward. The road not taken, Apology and St. Augustine are all about choices which they made in this life.
The road not taken is about the one whose way suddenly splatted into two and in order to go to his destination he would have to choose between these ways. He is not sure where the end of the way is, is it safe to go with this road. Then he chose the way without being sure and he thinks he will not regret because the road which was chosen was trodden.
Socrates and St. Augustine both made important choices in their life. Socrates started examine his life because Oracle said that no one is wiser then you. Then, he finds out that he his really wiser than others; he always knew something however which was not familiar to others. After, he chose the way to philosophy to educate and be educated on the other hand at those moments it was really hard to be a philosophers because people were making unbelievable rumors on the engagement of Socrates. St. Augustine had sinful life, however he is now saint, this is because in his life he could distinguish between right and wrong then he made the right choice. He also had choice to live with sinful life, but by the help his readings he could understand the behavior which he had under god.

In my opinion, Socrates was right because he wanted to spread philosophy to everywhere he could. I think that St. Augustine contradicts to itself because he says that God is the creator of the everything however if you want to become smart will be sin for you. If the God gave us a brain why we shouldn’t be wise and help to others because being wise means being really good in many aspects. I don’t understand one thing why we cannot be proud of , I feel that if we made something good we can be proud of our selves and just we should say it to the public because it will be unethical but not sin. If he would so religious, he would believe in god and he should realize that he was wrong because Socrates did not decided himself to be the wisest, indeed oracle who was the representative of god sad that he is the wisest.

In conclusion, well-known Greek philosophers such as Socrates and St. Augustine had different views on the sin. Socrates mainly known in regard to his student Plato and he published the book which is called Apology where Socrates defends against false accusations and where he gets death penalty. The second character who is St. Augustine known from his books and one of them is The Confession. In that book he described his own life and it was not just a usual life, it was the life where he could escape from the sinful life and pass to the good side and therefore he is a saint for me because while living in sinful life it is hard to distinguish between what is good and evil . Socrates anted to educate others and for him ignorant people were sinners of their life. St. Augustine considered as a sin many things such as being generous and wise. He thought that these things cause people to be proud and only god was the supreme in many aspects. However being proud if you made something really useful and good to others is unethical but it is not a sin and having education in order to be smart is not a sin because this will be benefit for you through your life. These books similar in that way that both are written from real of the real characters. Since it was from the real life we can find that they both made choices in their lives and for one of them it ended with death penalty and one of them got the sinless life. The Road Not Taken gives evidence of that choices are made in every life and the rightness of that choice will be judged by the history.

...An essay is usually a short piece of writing. It is often written from an author's personal point of view. Essays can be literary criticism, political manifestos, learned arguments, observations of daily life, recollections, and reflections of the author. The definition of an essay is vague, overlapping with those of an article and a short story. Almost all modern essays are written in prose, but works in verse have been dubbed essays (e.g. Alexander Pope's An Essay on Criticism and An Essay on Man). While brevity usually defines an essay, voluminous works like John Locke's An Essay Concerning Human Understanding and Thomas Malthus's An Essay on the Principle of Population provide counterexamples. It is very difficult to define the genre into which essays fall. Aldous Huxley, a leading essayist, gives guidance on the subject: Like the novel, the essay is a literary Abstract This article will examine the reasons why it is important both linguistically and psychologically to build a vocabulary quickly when learning a foreign language. ...HOW TO READ ESSAYS YOU MUST ANALYZE 1. Take a pencil in your hand. 2. Read the essay over once, quickly, looking for the main idea, for what the essay is about in general, and for what the author seems to be saying. Don't get bogged down in details. (If you come to an unfamiliar word, circle it but go on reading). 3. Check the meaning of unfamiliar words. If they seem to be key words, i.e., if the author uses them more than once, scribble a brief definition at the bottom of the page or at the end of the essay. 4. Now re-read more slowly and carefully, this time making a conscious attempt to begin to isolate the single most important generalization the author makes: his thesis. Follow his line of thought; try to get some sense of structure. The thesis determines the structure, so the structure, once you begin to sense it, can lead you to the thesis. What is the main point the author is making: Where is it? Remember, examples or "for instances" are not main points. The thesis is the generalization the author is attempting to prove valid. Your job, then is to ask yourself, "What is the author trying to prove"? Another way of identifying the thesis is to ask yourself, "What is the unifying principle of this essay"? or "What idea does everything in this essay talk about"? or "Under what single main statement could all the subdivisions fit"? If the author has stated his thesis fully and clearly and all in one place, your job is easier. The thesis is apt to be stated...

...Define Your Thesis For essays that are part of an Early Years Care & Education Degree, it is important to clearly define a thesis statement within the first paragraph of the essay. Even if you are given a topic to write, such as the importance of preschool classes in low-income neighborhoods, you need to develop a strong thesis in your own words. Here is an example: "Preschool classes in low-income neighborhoods are a crucial step in helping all children enter elementary school at the same educational level, regardless of the income of the family." Once you have defined a clear thesis, you can proceed to the rest of your essay. However, without a clear thesis, your essay will not hold up. Use Examples The majority of your essay should be a careful and clear argument that supports your thesis statement. Do research and cite as many examples as possible to prove your point. For an essay about the merits of all-day educational opportunities for preschool-aged children, check trustworthy sources such as the National Association for the Education of Young Children and national PTA. Provide each point in a strong and complete paragraph. Each paragraph should have a main statement, supporting information and a conclusion. Tie In Conclusion After you have made your argument, state your conclusion in a clear and concise manner. Whether you have proven that the teacher ratio in a preschool setting should be lower than 4 to 1 or made a case for more national funding for the education...

...Carmen Hollow Mr. Beurskens College English Critique Essay: The Morals of the Prince May 3, 2011 The Grey Area between Good and Evil: A Critique of “The Morals of the Prince” by Niccolo Machiavelli Introduction We’ve all made a promise that we couldn’t keep and we have all felt bad about breaking those promises. Whether it was a promise to our parents, our children or a co-worker, we don’t feel good about it, but sometimes it can’t be helped. Usually if we couldn’t keep a promise it was for a good reason and not a selfish one. To the person that we made the promise to, we may be viewed as uncaring or unreliable, but to ourselves we know that we had to make a decision that could hurt someone but at the same time our decision could help that same person or persons. Making a promise and not being able to keep it for one reason or another, is one of the few topics that Machiavelli writes of in his essay “The Morals of the Prince”. He also tells why he believes a prince should be feared rather than loved, and why a prince should be stingy and not generous. He wants us to know how a “perfect” prince should act and behave so that the prince will be viewed upon as a great prince. Summary Machiavelli writes about how he believes a prince should act and behave to be considered a successful prince, one that is loved and feared, liberal and stingy, one that knows when to keep his word and when to break it. In his essay, Machiavelli writes “a prince who wants to keep his post...
