The programmes were well-received, but innovations to reach more agencies were necessary. In 2008, NFSTC was competitively selected by the NIJ to develop and deliver the Essentials of Crime Scene Investigation (ECSI) blended learning training programme. The programme proved to be in high demand, receiving twice as many applicants as available openings. The content and instruction received exceptional reviews from participants, spurring the development of an intermediate level course in 2010.

Additional programmes followed and delivered successfully as blended learning solutions to hundreds of officers and practitioners from across the U.S. The courses have been accepted by some agencies and professional associations for Continuing Education
