The Responsibility Project
After reviewing several short films, Bottomless Closet, featuring Sara Slocum, is the film chosen for The Responsibility Project. Bottomless Closet is a nonprofit organization. This socially responsible organization is solely staffed by volunteers and 100% funded by donations. This project will reveal organizational issues, external social pressures, influences on organizational ethics, and the relationship between legal and ethical issues.

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, October’s unemployment rate was 7.9% (Statistics, 2012). A short term solution of unemployment or financial assistance does not solve a community’s social economical problem. The competition for employment is great and the need to market ones skills is greater. Consider women looking for work while facing the challenges of poverty, domestic abuse, or lack of skills. Bottomless Closet is a New York City based nonprofit organization, founded in 1999, in response to an article discussing the obstacles that mothers on financial assistance faced while looking for work. These women faced obstacles from finding appropriate clothing to functioning in an interview setting. The Bottomless Closet assists economically disadvantaged women and provides helpful tools, such as business etiquette and interviewing skills to navigate through an already challenging job market.

The issues in this film are important because Bottomless Closet provides women from diverse backgrounds a chance to better themselves and become self-sufficient. An individual with a past criminal history striving to turn her life around can benefit from the professional resources experienced at the center. This knowledge promotes a sense of dignity and self-worth to enter confidently into the workplace. Once

...To Drill or Not to Drill Kaiulani Kuehnel ETH/316 Ethics and Social Responsibility October 22, 2015 Imran Anwar To Drill or Not to Drill In 2004, the Bush administration expressed the need to expedite the set-up of drilling rigs on a crucial part of land to many wildlife species to drill for natural gas. This area of land is a corridor for wildlife migration of many species, a big trout population in the Colorado River, and home to the dwindling population of Sage Grouse. The government wants to drill on this land because of the natural gas that is lying hundreds of feet below the ground, enough oil to supply the nation for one year (Nightline, 2004). The implications of such a project has the potential to throw the ecosystem into a downward spiral. There are already thousands of drilling rigs, numbering 5,200 in an area crossing five states. The government wants to expand this number to about 10,000. What are the ethical issues of such a project? Encroaching industrial civilization poses a migratory issue for the wildlife. Roads will be built that the animals have to cross, fences made of barbed wire are springing up everywhere, drilling run-off is polluting the rivers, streams, and lakes that harbor a big trout population.
