Group 11 Ethnic Restaurant
I have been always want to try different Ethnic fooda, because I believe that trying different foods can always be a great advanture to me. To me, Korean food is very unique
.But my expeience with Korean food was rare.
So I Google lincoln’s best korean restaurant, and then I found Yami Korean Cuisine.
It was like 15 minuntes drive distance from campus, which was not too bad. I have friend who recommend this place to me before, she said the Galbi Short Ribs are really good. I ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap, which is a bibimbap prepared in sizzing hot stone bowl. On the menu, it introduced that bibimbap is “steamed rice with beef, sauted mushroom, spinach, carrot, zucchini, bean sprouts, and onion. Topped with fried egg and served with hot pepper sauce. ”. I did not like the flavor of carrot so I asked a Dolsot Bibimbap without carrot in it.
The dish got different colors from the vegetables and meat, which made it looked really nice. The waitress told me stird all the ingredients together, so it is basiclly like a korean mixed rice. The Dolsot, which is the hot stone pot, keeps cooking the rice even after the dish was served. I thought it was interesting and new to me. In Chinese food, we have the dishes called Xiang Guo, which is a hot pot has fire under it to keeps on cooking while serving. But in Korean food, they made the Dolsot very hot and use the heat from the pot itself to cook. So always be careful with it, do not burn yourself. The owner told us Korean people say Jalmukesumneda before start eating, which mean I am going to eat very well today. I have tried one bite before I add the hot pepper sauce, but it was light and tasteless.
The hot pepper sauce was served on site, so base on your preferences, you can decided how much you want to add in your bowl. It tasted so good after I added the hot pepper

sauce. The rice go with the sauce pretty well. A few mintus passed, the rice turns brown and crispy, the texture of the rice became really speacial and delicious.
One of my favorite thing about Korean food is they served more than 5 different side dishes no matter what you order. They have the Oi­muchim, which is a spicy cucumber side dish, it was like a salad but seasoned before, very crispy and spicy. Of course, the tongbaechu­kimchi, which is the cabbage kimchi, the most classic side dishes in Korean food, the owner of the restuarnt introduced to us that Korean have to have kimchi for every meal, and the skill of making good delicious kimchi is the standard of a good wift. The
Gamjabokkeum, which is the potatos side dishes is also my favorite. It tasted like pickle potatos, I have never tried potatos like this before.
The owner told us it is very common to serve lots of side dishes for all three meals in
Korea, People made a lot of them at once and put them in a big jar, so in that way they can serve it right away.Besides the dishes I order, they also provide the Miso stew, which is from the north part of Korea. It has Tofu, zzuchini and chicken in it. I think I will try it next time.
After I tried the Korean food I was really amazed by it, so during the fall breaks I went to Omaha and tried the restuarant called Maru Korean sushi Korean Grill, they served another type of korean food, which is the Korean BBQ. I talked to the owner, she said the
BBQ served more during the festival in Korea, it is more like a speacial dinner. My friends and I were all excited to try it. The first thing we order is the Chadolbegi, which is the beef bisket. The owner recommend we order this first because it cooks fast and easy to fills you up. They served a big bowl of salads in front of us, and told us wrap these with Duk Bo Sam, which is a thin rice paper. It tasted kind of like the spring roll in vetnamanese dishes but more salty, which is my favorite. You can eat the meat in midium well or well done depends on your preferrence. We also order the pork belly in wine flavor and miso flavor. I do not see pork belly in American dishes very often, I thought may be Americans do not like the fat part, but it is my personal favorite.

 It is fun that we cook the BBQ by ourselves, but it is more complexity than eating the normal Korean food, because someone is going to always keep an eye on the meat prevent the meat from burn. Also, you need to ask to change the grill if the grill is getting dark, otherwise your food is going to taste like burned quickly. The owner taught us to dipped the meat into a soybean paste, wrap the meat the a lettuce leaf, this is the tradiontial way to eat it. But I like to add kimchi, a sliced garlic in my wrap, which made it more spicy and has kimchi’s sour flavor in it, then take a bite of rice after it.
What I like about Korean food is you are eating a lot of grilled meat, but you are eating a lot of vegetables at the same time, It balance up your nutrition and they are all delicious. I have learned that Koreans have the sharing culture from having their foods,
Koreans like to having dinner with families and friends and sharing foods together.This is definelty a great experiences, we should all tried more different ethnic foods.
