...Ethical Style Essay Ethical Style Essay My personal ethics are shaped by my training and responsibility as a sailor serving in the US Navy coupled with my duties and responsibilities as a Christian. At different times my ethical approach changes but can be mostly characterized as a bridge between a utilitarian, loyalist, Judeo-Christian, and intuitive ethical styles. The utilitarian and loyalist style aligns with my leadership role in the military supporting the motto “mission + men = success” with an emphasis on mission first. Leaders are often faced with making a decision that affects the group as a whole and must consider how the consequence effect the groups as a whole calling into play the utilitarian style. The Navy also demands my loyalty as we are sworn to obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me. On the other hand my personal/religious approach is governed by the Judeo-Christian style with the Golden Rule at the forefront of my mind. The intuitive style bridges the gap between the two as my gut feelings are a response to my military/life experience and training driven by the Holy Spirit. This allows me to make split ethical decisions without an extensive thought process. One day I was approached by a sailor who claimed that Leading Chief Petty officer in the food service division was running him down and he was concerned that one day he would not be able to control his emotion. I asked him if there were any others that felt the same...

...Ethical Essay Mark Best ETH/316 University of Pheonix Ethics is a division of philosphy that deals with human behaviors. There are many different theories that have existed throughout history. An ethical theory must consider and take into account what makes the “right” dicisions different from the “wrong” decision. Ethical behavior has been defined by a lot of different people and organization of the history of the world, but still some actions are argued as to whether or not they are ethical or even moral. Plato’s view of ethics was that it had to do with the arrangement of the human soul. He believe that every human sould consisted of three parts, the rational, spiritual, and passionate. For a person to commit ethical behavior Plato believed that the soul must be properly organized. This meant that the reason must command, organized, and focus the other two parts of the soul. If this was done, then one sought general good and not flights of fancy. Religions such as Christianity have come up with theories about ethics as well. Christians have theorized that “human souls desire the good, found only in God.” This good is supposed to be “unchanging, perminant, and always satisfying. The goods of this world, such as food, drink or wealth, are only partially satisfying, since these are always changing and human physiology always demands them. God, however, as the final end of all things, is the end of human souls as well. The soul that "rests" in God is the...

...Ethical Dilemma Essay Tiffany Christiansen Baker College Ethical Dilemma Essay Like many professionals, a code of ethics must be followed. When a sociologist chooses to do research, they must follow the ethics of sociology. These ethics are clearly outlined in the American Sociological Association: Code of Ethics. Some of these ethics include honesty and truth. They forbid a sociologist from providing false results as well as condemn plagiarism. Ethics of Sociology also require that anonymity be upheld of those who provide information (Henslin, 2014). When looking at Principle E: Social Responsibility under the General Principles of the American Sociological Association: Code of Ethics, it states that “Sociologists are aware of their professional and scientific responsibility to the communities and societies in which they live and work. They apply and make public their knowledge in order to contribute to the public good. When undertaking research, they strive to advance the science of sociology and to serve the public good” (Code of ethics and policies and procedures of the ASA Committee on Professional Ethics, 1999, p 6). Therefore, Robert’s responsibility should be that he makes contact with the police and quite possibly even the homeowners of the house in which is intended to be burglarized, beings it is contributing to the public good. Robert could still protect the anonymity of the professional burglar by only divulging information that could help to prevent the burglary...

...Ethical Me Essay Ethics is a branch of philosophy that coincides with morality. And as we have discussed in class, the definition of morality or ethics is that is deals basically with human relationships – how humans treat other beings so as to promote mutual welfare, growth, creativity and meaning as they strive for good over bad and right over wrong. There is not a definitive answer as to what every individual’s personal ethics are. Each individual’s ethics is subject to various factors such as how the individual was raised, the kind of people they related with, what they were taught and the experiences that the individual has encountered that define their personal ethics. Ethics is doing what is right and wrong whereas values determine what is right and wrong. Values are the principles or standards that either an individual or a group of people hold in high regards. It is these values that guide the way we each live our lives and assist in the decisions we make. An individual’s personal ethics is not just limited to work, school or home. It is related in everything we do on a daily basis and portrays an influential role of defining just who we are and how people respond to us. As an individual born and raised here in the United States to a traditional Chinese family there were certainly many cultural differences of what was expected and what I should and shouldn’t do. However, regardless of what heritage I was from, I was raised with the values of respecting people...

...man. Bacon appears as a moralist in his essays, for he preaches high moral principles and lays down valuable guidelines for human conduct. Some of his essays show him as a true lover and preacher of high ethical codes and conducts. For instance, in “Of Envy”, he puts: “A man that hath no virtue in himself, ever envieth virtue in others.” Then, in his essay “Of Goodness and Goodness of Nature” he says: “But in charity there is no excess; neither can angel or man come in danger by it.” Again, he appears to be a lover of justice in his essay “Of Judicature”: “The principal duty of a judge is to suppress force and fraud.” In spite of all given examples, one cannot deny the fact that Bacon was a “Man of Renaissance”. He had a deep insight in human nature. He knew that man is naturally more prone to evil than good. He was a clear-eyed realist who saw the weakness in human nature and drawbacks of human conduct and also knew that man is not capable of acting according to noble set of ‘ideals’. Though Bacon’s morality was greater than that of average man’s, yet it was not of the highest order. The matter of good and right was important for him but not if it proved too costly in worldly terms. On one hand, he preached high moral principles and on the other hand, he also expressed a mean capacity by compromising upon those morals for the sake of worldly success. For this reason, William Blake, a spiritual poet says about his essays: “Good advice for Satan’s Kingdom.” ...
