...BSHS/335 Tracy Mallett January 21, 2015 Ethical Standards A Therapist Quandary When you look at the case of the husband who started individual counseling then his wife joined with the intentions of saving their marriage there are many ethical issues that could arise for the therapist. First there is the issue of the secret the husband is hiding about his latest affair, because the counselor did not clearly state her policy on keeping secrets the husband has an expectation of her keeping his secret about his affair. The therapist cannot tell the wife without breaking the confidentiality of the husband, however how can she continue to treat them as a couple if she has to hold this information from the wife when part of the condition for the wife to work on fixing their marriage is based on no further affairs from her husband? The therapist also believes that having an affair interferes with her ability to help the couple and on a personal ethical level she thinks it is wrong, however she must keep her personal feelings out of her sessions with the couple. Either she must continue to treat the couple or refer them to someone else, if she chooses to refer them to someone else she is faced with either telling the wife why or lying to her, either way she would be going against the ethical standards that she has to uphold. According to the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (2001) “Marriage and family therapists have unique confidentiality concerns...

...My ethical dilemma involved my commitment to my clients, as in this specific case I was committed to a parent and her two young daughters and also I battled with respecting her right to self determination. I have been working with a family for 9 months and the case has been active with this particular family welfare agency for 2 ½ years. Many external factors of oppression have affected this family. I present a 35 year old African American single mother and two young daughters ages 8 and 12. This mother, Ms. Module, (name change for confidentiality), has a history with Child protective services for 2 years now, included in the allegations was substance and alcohol use, educational neglect, lack of supervision, and engaging in domestic violence disputes in the presence of the children. Ms. Module does not know who the father is of the girls, states they were conceived while she was dating various strangers for money. In September 2008 the two children were placed into foster care due to mother’s addiction to cocaine and alcohol including her inability to care for her children and provide a safe environment. Due to Adoption and Safe Families Act, when children are in Foster Care 15 out of 22 months, the Department of Social Services is mandated to file for termination of parental rights against the parents. Since the children have been in a foster home, Ms. Module has been in and out of various rehabilitation facilities. Ms. Module is also diagnosed with Major Depression...

...Checkpoint Two - Personal Ethical Standards Okay so according to situation one of chapter 12 of the text. You are a correctional officer that is in charge of an area, and the inmate in which you are in charge of asked you to check on an appointment for a counselor. The question or ethical dilemma that is in place and is that you know he will most likely not be called up today. The real question here is what you do you tell them the truth and tell him that he will most likely not get called up today? Do you promise to go down and ask or call? In this situation you have an ethical dilemma sure you could tell the inmate Jan no problem I’ll call for you and never bothered to do it. The problem with this is what is it say about you as an officer of the law? You could promise to call, the problem with this is it is not part of your dog job description and most likely it’ll take you away from your obligations to correctional officer. For me I think I would be honest with the inmate let them know that most likely that he’s not to make it go to his counseling appointment today but he should get called in the next few days. I think that it is important to remember that modern corrections officers, aside from frequently putting their lives on the line, are a combination of police officers, social workers, counselors, security specialists, managers, and teachers. A corrections officer oversees individuals who have been arrested, are awaiting trials, or who have been convicted and sentenced...

Ethical standards are determined largely by professional accounting and finance organizations and the Financial Accounting Standards Board. Small-business owners who plan to perform their own accounting services or hire accountants should be aware of accounting principles and general financial ethical standards so they can maintain a positive reputation for their businesses.” Ethics should always play a role in the businesses everyday life. Without ethics you really should think about closing your doors because it will eventually catch up with your company. Most companies live by the standards that G.A.A.P. provides for them and their companies are doing well. The U.S. provides all companies with generally accepted principles that should be followed by their accounting department. Here is a basic generalization of those principles. “Determined by the FASB, U.S. generally accepted accounting principles are standards that determine how accountants in the U.S. conduct and format their reports. Accounting records must be seen by a number of people outside of the organization for transparency purposes....

...Maintaining Ethical Standards BSHS 335 Stephanie Munro March 10, 2014 Maintaining Ethical Standards Ludwig is a counselor who is trained and educated within individual counseling as opposed to family counseling. After working with Ella for some time, Ludwig realizes that Ella would benefit from family counseling sessions. Ludwig would like to refer Ella to someone who is capable of doing family counseling, but is worried that Ella might feel as though he is abandoning her. Therefore he decides not to refer her and continues to just help her on an individual basis. As the caseworker, there are multiple ethical issues that I might be confronted with in this issue. The first ethical issue that I face is not referring Ella to the person who will be able to give her the proper care. It is my job as the caseworker to help my client to understand the issues involved within their individual life. If there is something that I cannot do, then it is my duty to explain to the client what needs to happen and why they will benefit from it. Another ethical issue that I might have to face is not being able to fully help the client due to missing information that could be brought up within family counseling. All I know is that most of Ella’s issues are influenced by her family; I cannot make accurate decisions because I do not have everyone’s side involved. If I simply referred Ella, then the appropriate caseworker would be able to understand all perspectives and help formulate a...

...I believe police officers should be held to a higher ethical standard or degree due to negligence compared to other people or professional on negligence in the line of duty due to the matter they swore to the oath of office to protect, serve and uphold the law. Their position of power that they possess cannot be played with. I mean really who doesn’t know that negligence by the police in the line of duty indicates that they betrayed the oath to serve and protect. We cannot have criminals enforcing the law and hiding behind their badge and a code of silence. That just doesn’t sit right with me. What credibility do they have especially if he or she was charged with domestic violence and later to arrive on a scene to a domestic violence response? He or she would have none! More importantly, what kind of empathy will he or she have for the victim in question? There is no second guessing with that question either....

...Ethical Standards for Human Research Human research discloses data that would benefit the populous; however, there are times when the ethical standards are violated. Furthermore, the risks and benefits to such research ultimately determine what acceptable risk is and what acceptable benefits are. Therefore, deceit in research is to be expected, considering the criterion in which deceit is acceptable is under the situational circumstances that allow researchers to deceive. Furthermore, there are times when the ends never justify the means. Meaning, putting human life in danger just to prove a hypothesis can place ethical standards for human research in question. Therefore, how much risk or how much benefit do researchers glean from deceit and from what is acceptable or not? Risk is a subject in which many people tend to avoid. Contemplation of risk often makes people uncomfortable leading to the risk involved in a situation overlooked instead of assessed. The term risk means to take a chance and many people are not willing to relinquish control to something risky or uncertain. In human research unfortunately everything is a risk, chance, or a gamble to try to find a break through solutions based on hypotheses that could improve the life of individuals and society. Even though benefits are important, the ethical aspects of human life must precedent overall. According to the National Institutes of Health (1979), “Previous codes and Federal regulations have required threat...

The information gathered for this report gives clear and definitive answers to the three main questions posed by the CEO of our company. The addition to business ethics can increase efficiency in our company’s employees. This would require the incorporation of a code of ethics in the company’s mission statement as well as having the human resources department designing and training employees on ethics. Having strong ethics within a company promotes trust from within, and a happy employee is a more productive employee.
