Ethics Reflection Paper Ethics is a very important code of conduct in one everyday life because it plays a vital role in business. When organizations begin the process of creating a strategic plan they often take into consideration the vital role that ethics plays. Social responsibility can be affected in planning because it ensures the needs of the stakeholders in a company are content.
In any organization ethic is a vital tool that is utilized to help employees within a organization understand how they should go about conducting themselves in a workplace environment. This should coincide with the values and standards that the organization they are employed with goes by. When strategic plans are created within a organization it should clearly state the expectations that the organization has set forth for employees so they will know how to conduct themselves. With the values set forth that each employee should make certain to make that ethics is a top priority (Pearce & Robinson, 2013). Within a organization values are typically stated in the mission and vision which will clearly explain the expectations and direction that the organization and its stakeholders wish to go in (Pearce & Robinson, 2013). In most organizations you can rely on the mission and/or vision statement to set standards on the principle from which organizations will develop a strategic plan and goals with ethics being the focal point of the decisions being made. A strategic plan is a base line from which a company works from in order create ethical guidelines. All organizations should take into consideration that there is a chance that unethical behavior may occur within its employees, which may include executives and/or subordinates (Pearce & Robinson, 2013). In the past we have seen several unethical financial scandals unfold such as that of Enron were top executive within the organization were behaving unethically, which therefore mottled each companies status. Ethics as well as social responsibility both play a vital role in an organizations strategic plan and decision making (Pearce & Robinson, 2013). Therefore it is imperative that organizations hire upper management that understand and believe in the the mission and vision of the organization and can carry out the strategic plan established by the stakeholders by conducting themselves ethically. At the beginning of the Master’s Business Administration (MBA) ethics and the idea of behaving ethically were discussed as being very important in the business world because it plays an essential part in how others are treated. Throughout the MBA program, a continual emphasis has been on the important role that ethics plays and how individuals in society should produce some form of corporate as well as personal culture where there is liability. Creating this type of culture will allow individuals to be less inclined to act in a unethical fashion. The implementation of the learning team projects during the MBA program provided a outlet for all team members to practice and test their ethics and values while working with team members and understanding each person’s individual circumstances. In the Assessment of Ethical Choices in the Workplace the one idea that seemed to be very important is the idea of respecting others individual judgments. In regards to the learning team that I was in, we all respected each other’s judgments, which as result created cohesiveness within our team and prevented unethical behavior from ever taking place (University of Phoenix, 2013). It is important that each individual conduct themselves in a ethical manner in order for there to be long term success in organizations. In business any decisions that is made must be ethically sound and social decisions must be made for the good of the organization and accordingly to the needs of the stakeholders that have been outlined in the organizations strategic plan.
