...Concerns To Validate the Nominal Plan (2G and 3G) Currently we are engaged on TEP related activities as survey work for new and swap sites and planning tasks. However we have found the following difficulties to proceed with Addis Ababa nominal plan validation which has a serious impact on new site survey and validation for TSSR and LLD. ethio telecom requested Huawei to use the latest forecasted subscribers from ethio telecom marketing department, which was done based on 10 sub cities instead of 28 woredas provided before. However the nominal plan was done considering the forecast of 28 woredas which has data discrepancy with the newly provided 10 sub cities. To make it short, the planned sites could not meet the subscribers forecast for following sub-cities Ketema, Akaki, Arada , Kirkose, Lideta and Nefasilk, on the other hand there is excess resource planned for Bole, Gulele, Kolfe and yeka. 2G planned and Forecast Data [pic] 3G planned and Forecast Data [pic] Hence, to alleviate this problem, Huawei has proposed the following solution. 1. 2G (GSM) 1. Motivation

...St. Mary’s University College School of Graduate Studies Human Resource Management MOTIVATION Abeneazer Wondwossen SGS/0370/2006B Motivation is the driving force that causes the flux from desire to will in life. For example, hunger is a motivation that elicits a desire to eat. Motivation has been shown to have roots in physiological, behavioral, cognitive, and social areas. Motivation may be rooted in a basic impulse to optimize well-being, minimize physical pain and maximize pleasure. It can also originate from specific physical needs such as eating, sleeping or resting, and sex. Motivation is an inner drive to behave or act in a certain manner. These inner conditions such as wishes, desires and goals, activate to move in a particular direction in behavior. ------------------------------------------------- Types of theories and models Motivational theories A class of theories about why people do things seeks to reduce the number of factors down to one and explain all behavior through that one factor. For example, economics has been criticized for using self-interest as a mono-motivational theory. Mono-motivational theories are often criticized for being too reductive or too abstract. Conscious and unconscious motivations A number of motivational theories emphasize the distinction between conscious and unconscious motivations. In evolutionary psychology, the "ultimate", unconscious motivation may be a cold evolutionary calculation, the conscious motivation...

Linear Programming,

...1. INTRODUCTION Linear programming, an operations research technique is widely used in finding solutions to complex managerial decision problems. The introduction of linear programming (LP) has produced remarkable benefits in a number of industries. The early experimental applications of LP techniques in the petroleum industry as a refinery management tool had such profound effects that LP is now standard in almost every aspect of that industry. The first application of LP in the textile industry was designed to produce optimal plant efficiency, that is, allocate plant resources to production problems so as to achieve the highest practical return. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the application of LP model in the blending (mixing) of cotton to produce Acrylic yarn in case of Arbaminch Textile factory. Because the cotton blending process involves complex quality control, it is particularly responsive to LP techniques. In view of today’s technology, the process of cotton fiber selection should undergo an inevitable transition from the traditional pure art to a sound scientific technique. In order to achieve this transition, fiber selection should be integrated into a cotton fiber mixing program that attempts to optimize cotton fiber use with respect to cost and quality of end product. I attempted to examine the practical aspect of linear programming for optimization of cost of producing cotton blended yarn in Arbaminch textile factory without impinging the required...

...Second Ethio-Italian War The Italian invasion of Ethiopia known as the second Italo-Ethiopian war was a major event of its time. It tested the League of Nations effectiveness and was considered as one of the reasons for WWII to start. It started in 1935 and ended in 1936 until the Italians defeat in 1941. The war was conducted between the armed forces of the Kingdom of Italy and armed forces of the Ethiopian Empire. Italy tried to conquer Ethiopia in 1890 but was defeated with the less trained and organized Ethiopian army. A border incident in 1935 between Ethiopia and part of Somalia, then occupied by the Italians, gave the fascist Italian empire, led by Benito Mussolini, a reason to revenge the 1890 defeat. In 1928 Italy and Ethiopia signed a treaty declaring that the border between the Italian occupied Somalia land also known Italian Somaliland and Ethiopia be 21 leagues (roughly 116 Kilometers) parallel to the coast of Benadir, the coastal region of Somalia. By contradicting the treaty the Italians built a fort beyond the agreed limit at Welwel oasis, a town inside Ethiopian border. This led to confrontation between the two countries also known as the Welwel incident. The incident left 150 Ethiopians and 2 Italians dead. The Ethiopian government represented by King Haile Selassie I appealed to the League of Nations. The king declared that this was sign of aggression, asking the league to condemn Italy for its violation of the league’s treaty, followed by actions to...

Human Security in Horn of Africa

...“I am one or two days away from death; they will shoot me dead, thus if you give birth to a son please name him after me.” ----An Eritrean victim of human trafficking from The Sinai Desert INTRODUCTION This paper examines the issue of human trafficking as it relates to human security in the Horn of Africa. Trafficking takes place by criminal means through the threat or use of force, coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, abuse of positions of power or abuse of positions of vulnerability. Further, it relates to all stages of the trafficking process: recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of person. An agreed definition of human trafficking exists under Article 3 of the “Palermo Protocol” on trafficking in persons which went into effect on 25 December 2003. This internationally agreed definition focuses on exploitation of human beings – be it for sexual exploitation, other forms of forced labor, slavery, servitude, or for the removal of human organs. Trafficking is not just a transnational crime across international borders; the definition applies to internal domestic trafficking of human beings. In the Horn of Africa (HOA), both cross border and internal trafficking of women and children is prevalent. For example, in Ethiopia, children are being trafficked into armed conflict where it is reported that over 20,000 of them have been victims. Almost all of the countries in the region have been identified as sources, transit points or destination...
