...I hope with this letter, our mother would obtain her green card and be by our side soon. Without our mother, I do not know how to help my sister when she is sick and/or has a migraine attack. With my father using our only vehicle for work, I cannot take my sister to the hospital or have a job myself. Furthermore, I am very stressed because of how my mother is living in Mexico. She lives in an apartment complex that looks very dangerous. There are bad roads, plenty of wrecks, and lots of graffiti on worn-down buildings with plenty of gangster-looking people. I strongly hope that she will not be living in such sub-standard conditions for too long. It has been a very emotional time for my whole family, and it would break our hearts to find out...

...In 1991 during a chance meeting at Union Station I met my wife and the thing that is unique about that is that I prayed for a wife. Even when I was in the Marines I asked God to send me a Godly woman; someone just for me that I could create a family with. I wanted and needed someone who would understand me as well as help me to grow in life and in God. Again, I had to thank God for answering my prayers. I will admit that my marriage is not perfect: it is tough at times and I have to work at it daily. However, I can tell you that when I think about my wife and the journey that we have traveled together I can truly say that God sent her to me. My wife is a friend and my guardian angel. I am forever in His debt for blessing my life with an awesome helpmate. After meeting her I curtailed the use of alcohol thanks to my wife pointing out how out of control I was. The intervention of my wife made it unnecessary to need sessions with Iyanla Vanzant who majors in fixing out of control lives. Do to the assistance of my wife I did not need self-help books or Alcohol Anonymous program. My love for my wife enabled me to just shut it all down and the problem went away. God answered my prayers and sent my wife in addition to cleaning up my life and making me worthy of the woman He had prepared just for me: nobody but God. . Circa 1993 wife and I joined Ebenezer AME Church in Ft. Washington, MD and later Union Bethel AME Church in Brandywine, Maryland under the leadership of then pastor...

...Ruth Bishop home?" the male voice asked. "Yes, this is she" I quickly answered. He took a deep breath and then said with remorse "Last night Jane Addams passed away, I'm sorry." I was shocked. " Her funeral is tomorrow at 11 am at the Walter L Sojka funeral home, I was also asked to see if you could give her eulogy?" A tear streamed down my face as I responded " Of course, thank you for letting me know." He quickly responded " You're welcome, I'm sorry for your loss." I hung up the phone and took a seat on my leather love seat that faced the window and started weeping. My husband came in and sat next to me "What's wrong?" he asked as he put a loving hand on my back. I looked up at him and took a few deep breaths to stop my crying. " My friend Jane passed away yesterday."...

...When Lying is Justifiable Lying is an inevitable behavior, although we may all agree lying is not right, we fall into this behavior many times in our lives. Everyone lies; whether it is to protect, obscure, place blame, or manipulate. As children, most individuals were taught that lying was wrong. From hearing parents say common quotes like, “the truth shall set you free”, or from the many consequences received for lying, people were meant to be have honesty enforced their minds. There is no doubt truth actually is enforced in our minds, according to a study by expert of Developmental Science, Dr. Fu Genyue, Ph.D, “Children of all ages categorize lies as lies and truth as truth” (499). Research in the medical field shows that “deception is judged as justified in some contexts involving the prevention of harm” (Freeman 2274). Of course lying is not acceptable when speaking under oath or at confessions with a priest, but lying is definitely justifiable in certain situations were it can be used as a protection factor to protect the feelings, securities, and lives of others. We are all put into very awkward situations at some points of our lives where we may feel lying to spare one's feelings was the best option. One common situation is being asked, “Do I look fine in this outfit?”. If the person does look fine it is okay to say so, but it is when that person may not that we produce what is called a “white lie”. While many people may recognize the words “white lie”, there...

...Marilyn Monroe was a legend. In her own lifetime she created a myth of what a poor girl from a deprived background could attain. For the entire world she became a symbol of the eternal feminine. But I have no words to describe the myth and legend. Nor would she want us to do so." Those were the words delivered at her Eulogy by Lee Stratsberg (Lefkowitz 114). The Eulogy summed up her impact then and it does now as well. Marilyn Monroe impacted music, movies, society and culture, in her time ,and still does today. Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson, as it said on her birth certificate, although she was also known as Norma Jeane Baker because she never knew the true identity of her father. She was born on June 1 st, 1926 in Los Angeles (Lefkowitz 21). Norma Jeane's childhood and life was anything but perfect. Shortly after she was born, her mother, Gladys Baker, was admitted into a rehabilitation center. Looking back on it she remembered her mother only as the "woman with red hair", who on occasions, would stop in and visit her (Wilson Biography II). From that point on she went from foster home to foster home. She also spent time in an orphanage in Los Angeles (Wilson Biography1). When her final set of foster parents was to move to California she decided to get married. At the age of sixteen she married 23 year old, Jim Dougherty. (McKittnick 1) The marriage lasted until 1943 when Dougherty joined the Merchant Marines during World War I. (Biography.com article 2) During...

...Tashira Smith Ms.Rush English 9- A Block Mastery Work 1 “You left me…here all alone.” Those were Tashira’s first words of my mother’s eulogy. She wept, cried, and has gone crazy. My mother was in the hospital for two months before being declared dead on December 25th, 2005. Was this the family Christmas gift? Her death was a big tragedy. It affected the family, but had an even bigger effect on my daughter Tashira. She and Tashira were very close and did everything together. Tashira only came up to my mother’s waist, but always pushing to sit beside her. They were the best of friends; Tashira was at my mother house every weekend. While I’ll be at work, they’ll be out somewhere shopping or eating ice cream. Her grandmother gave her the world. Tashira’s grandmother was her favorite person and losing her was hard. As I sit here and watch Tashira break down, I think of everything I can do to get her back to the old her. The girl that didn’t chatter much, but was always shy, until she got around her grandmother. Now she’s just completely mute and depressed. The memories they shared together even makes me break down here and there. It sucks to see my daughter Tashira sad all the time. My princess was only 5, how could God take such an important person out of...

...Written Composition (Eulogy) Prepared by: GROUP 5 (Henry) Lately, many people have expressed their sympathies about my grandma’s long, painful battle, saying how hard it was for them when their parent had to spend months in the hospital. However, I realized after she passed that I am grateful to have spent so much time with her during this last chapter of her life. When she wasn’t under anaesthesia, she and I would spend hours talking about everything we could, as if we were making up for lost time. Sometimes we started out by talking about life at her childhood home in Calauan Laguna, and she would end up telling me what kind of man I ought to marry. “Whatever you do,” she would say, “make sure you marry for love and not because you need him. A man is not a financial plan.” Then, ever the helpful teacher, she would add with a smile, “Although, they do rhyme and that may be why so many people get confused about that.” When someone you love passes away, there is a strong temptation to remember them perhaps a little too well. Misdeeds are forgotten. Offenses are forgiven. Only the most shining characteristics of our loved ones make it into the version of them that we keep with us when they depart. My mother’s only fault was in leaving behind a husband, and two children who loved her very much. The best thing that she has left behind for us is her example. Most people who knew her would be surprised to learn that she struggled with clinical depression on and off for...

...PMS? Do More! How was your first PMS experience? Was it heart-warming or traumatic? Did you have fun with it or wished it never happened? Are you ready to experience it? Let me tell you – my first experience was terrifying but because it happened I have to learn from it and I can only wish that my own daughter will never experience it. Fellow toastmasters and guests, good evening! Yes, my first PMS experience was traumatic and wet. Uhh, uhhh before your imagination jumps-off this building, let me clear your thoughts of what am I referring to as PMS. It’s my first experience of my dear Papa and Mama Squabble. I was still a little child, well, smaller and sexier than I am today, 6 years old to be exact, when I had witnessed them fought. I was right in front of them, when my mama gripped a bolo, used it to draw a line on the floor and furiously said to my father, “Don’t you dare cross this line or else I’ll kill you!”. Then, a deafening silence enveloped our home. I got so scared that I didn’t notice I wet my pants already. That was worst! We all know that getting into it with our spouse or partner is inevitable, and when you have kids, there’s a strong chance they’ll witness the arguing. So, what do we do? Dr. Judith Sherven, a psychologist and an expert in conflict resolution, author of the book Discovering the Magic at the Heart of your Differences, said that it’s wise and understandable that parents worry about fighting in front of their children, yet disagreements...

...Eulogy We are gathered here today to honor a hardworking, caring and loving guy who has overcome a lot in his life to be successful. I knew Cody since we were little kids, and ever since then he has always said to me “One day I will play college HOCKEy, and then after that I will play in the NHL, it will be a hard journey but I will give whatever it takes to get there.” Unfortunately he never got to the nhl but personally I knew there was something special about the kid, I could see that he had the desire in his eyes and I knew that he could do anything he wanted if he just put his head down and worked as hard as he could. Even though he might have not been the best athlete or necessarily the strongest, he always put in twice as much work in as anyone else, because he knew one day that it will pay off and he will be on top. Being Cody’s closest friend growing up I could see all of the struggles he has been through, with constantly being picked and not having a father figure growing up, but I must say his mother did a damn good job. I think this is why he worked so hard to be the greatest because he wanted to make his Mom proud and he had all these people looking down on him and doubting him. Cody always kept on the same path and never turned into a bad kid, like some kids he grew up with who were the star athletes you could say, and now they are mostly washed up and into drugs and other stuff. Even though Cody grew up with constant bullying towards him he always was so caring...

...I was born in the Tallahassee, Florida which is better known as the state Capital of Florida. When you visit Tallahassee for the first time, you will think you are in the state of Georgia instead of Florida. This is evidence because of the rolling hills and Pecan or Dogwood trees that grows on almost every corner. My mother and father raised our family of my sister’s Carolyn, Beverly and brother Theodore in a 3 bedroom home that my father built just 5 blocks for the Florida State Campus. I was told he work on building the house daily after his job with TJ Manning Tile Company along with some of his self-employed friends. My mother and father were hard workers who provide mostly everything we needed to live comfortably. Our biggest family outing was attending Florida A & M University Football games and picnics at St Andrews State Beach in Panama City, Florida on holidays. My childhood was very eventful and active growing up in the Panhandle of North Florida. I attended the local neighborhood public elementary, middle and high schools in northwest Tallahassee. I participated in city May Day Celebration, youth sports and community volunteer programs. To earn spending money I sold sodas at Florida State Football games, mowed lawns, did errand for the elderly and sold pecan in the fall to attend the county Canaveral....

...A recurring theme in both Webster’s Duchess of Malfi and Shakespeare’s Hamlet is the concept of female honour and chastity, even though the women of the plays are secondary to the main plot. A woman’s necessity to marry is a negative message in Hamlet, and proves to be the hubris of the Duchess- it is her marriage that, in part, leads to her eventual death. Ergo, Wiggins’ statement about ‘second marriages troubling the male imagination’ is certainly true from the outset. The second scene of Hamlet opens onto a celebration, but in Hamlet’s first soliloquy, he distains his mother, for her ‘frailty’ in needing a new husband, likening her to worse than a ‘beast’ wanting ‘discourse of reason.’ Bearing in mind, the contemporary society where women spinsters and widows were stigmatized, yet, according to these plays, a woman’s remarriage was socially unacceptable. However, such is the misogyny and class based prejudice that a high-ranking woman is not socially stigmatized but merely gossiped about in private. However, the famed serial monogamist Henry VIII married six times; even introducing divorce, yet Hamlet is troubled by his mother’s single remarriage, even before learning of his uncle’s treachery, despite the fact that his father is dead. Perhaps then, it is the line ‘or ere these shoes were old’ that demonstrates his trouble with the hastiness of the remarriage, rather than the concept of the marriage itself. Throughout, the Duchess is defined not through her ideals, as noble...

...Ambyr Braxton Tribute/Eulogy Speech Final Draft April 3, 2012 A Tribute to the Little Man, Alon Well, I’m pretty sure we all know that there are countless instances when someone would need to write a tribute speech. It could be for a graduation, a wedding, or in my case this class assignment. The hardest part about writing a tribute speech is finding the right words to say that’ll make this person seem godly, but for Alon, my little brother, I had no trouble finding words that tell just why I admire him. Born in the month of August on the 22, Alon came into a world, crazy as it is, on an unplanned pregnancy. Most people would say it’s hard to do a tribute speech on someone so young, but really they’re some of the best people to do a tribute on. Alon, being only three years old is one of the kindest, most honest people I know of. His short black curly hair and small features such as his nose and his ears show the innocent Alon still has because he hasn’t been influenced by the world he lives in yet and is still, obviously, growing up. I know that every time I look into those almond shaped brown eyes of him, I’m looking into the eyes of someone whose eyes are blind and unknown to lies. Getting an honest opinion from him isn’t hard, seeing that’s all I get from him. Still being so young, Alon’s mind is as honest as it gets because he hasn’t had the experiences an older person would have, he hasn’t been influenced by anyone else, so when asked what he thinks of something...
