...Evaluating Websites More and more people are using the internet every day. It is important to know whether a website is credible or not. There are many websites out there that give false information or they give information trying to sell a product or they want you to believe a certain way, so the information is one-sided. Anyone can set up a web page, so how do you know if what you are reading is credible or not? You ask yourself some questions about the webpage. You want to ask questions about five different things; accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, and coverage. I decided to research the United States Health and Human Services website. This website is informational website designed to present facts, letting the public know about what services are offered and how to take advantage of them. With an informational website, the URL Address frequently ends in .edu or .gov, as many of these pages are sponsored by educational institutions or government agencies. Examples of these are: dictionaries, thesauri, directories, transportation schedules, calendars of events, statistical data, and other factual information such as reports, presentations of research, or information about a topic (Alexander, Tate, 1999). I asked myself the following questions about accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, and coverage.. . Accuracy – how accurate is the information on the page? Ask yourself the following questions: Can you verity the information (sources), is...

...EVALUATING A WEBSITE: JOINT COMMISSION CREDIBILITY Evaluation TJC’s website is published by very well known organization and ends in .org which makes it very appropriate for offering authority. The information throughout the website is very accurate and provides daily updates. There is a link that is labeled “Daily Update” that offers most recent news anywhere from the day of your search to as far back as a month ago. There is also a “Contact Us” link that offers a customer service phone number for general questions. This website does not appear to be biased and is produced by an organization that offers very important information in becoming accredited or certified without a source of funding impact. Information is clearly listed on the website and can be accessed directly. The website and graphics of the site load very quickly and all the links are functioning. As far a privacy and security, this does not seem to be an issue for just simply searching the website generally. There is no sign in required to search for organizations but there is an option to Log In or log in using a Guest Access Request. If you choose either option, it takes you to a secure website called Joint Commission Connect and also lists other key stakeholders the website is intended for. Credibility TJC recommends best clinical practices. Incorporation of best clinical practices into the baccalaureate critical care nursing curriculum is important. Best practices promote...

...Evaluating a Website for Credibili Chamberlain College of Nursing NR500 January 8, 2016 Evaluating a Website for Credibility Receiving healthcare information for professional nurses and their patients is an important topic in today’s society. The term “just Google it” is as common as drinking a cup of morning coffee. This paper will evaluate the website Healthfinder.gov. This is a government website that provides access to disease management and tools to keep healthy. The website can be found by accessing Google.com and typing healthfinder in the search or by entering the domain name http://healthfinger.gov in the search engine browser. This paper will examine if this is a credible website to use as a professional nurse for reference material. I chose this site to review based on the wide array of healthcare topics found on this site. Characteristics of a Credible Website A website with authority helps determine if a site is credible. The site Healthfinder.gov identifies itself as a site that provides the latest health news that is evidence based. The site launched April 15, 1997 with the backing of the US government. This sites authority can be found by looking in the “about us” section. Dr. Wright is listed as the Chief Medical Advisor. ...Evaluating a Website for Credibility Rashida Kapasi Chamberlain College of Nursing August 26, 2014 Evaluating a Website for Credibility A website chosen for the evaluation is KidsHealth.org. The purpose of this website is to provide information about the health of children and teenagers in a manner that is easy to understand. This website claims to be the most-visited site on the Web for information about health, behavior, and development from before birth through the teen years. All the information is divided in four sections, providing information for parents, children, teenagers, and for educators. This website is easy to find through the Google search engine. That is understandable, taking into account the fact that Kids Health gets a million visits on a daily basis. The Web Address of this site follows the HTTP pattern. The uniform resource locator is http://kidshealth.org. The domain of this site is org., meaning that the domain extension is used by a non-profit organization called The Nemours Foundation's Center for Children's Health Media. The rationale behind the selection of the website is verifying of the website’s claims of being the most-trusted source for physician-reviewed information on children's health. Empirical evidence for the decision comes from the online library Caphis, which puts Kids Health in the Top 100 List of “Health Websites You Can Trust”, and Time Lists (Buenchner, 2004) name this site to be among 50 best...

The purpose of their website is to support and transform the dynamic roles of nurse practitioners (NPs) as prime providers into patient focused healthcare. Being in the family nurse practitioner program fueled my interest to this website. I aspire to enhance my knowledge by investigating and educating myself on further roles of NPs in the community, acute care settings, administrative positions and tertiary care centers. The response to my discussion thread this week regarding legislations and regulations for nurse practitioners (NPs) grasped my attention for AANP as it is equipped with the information. The search engine that was used to locate the website is the Google. The domain name for AANP is aanp.org and the Uniform Resource Locator page address is http://www.aanp.org. ...Evaluating Website Credibility Introduction The internet is the primary source individuals use when researching information including, but not limited to, medical information. The goal is to review the credibility of a website using five key criteria which are accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, and coverage (Colorado Community Colleges Online Library, 2015). For the purpose of the assignment, the website being evaluated by these five criteria is www.midwife.org which was found using the search engine Google that can be located by using the domain google.com. I chose this website because it provides accurate and up to date information in regards to the ever growing and evolving practice of midwifery both in the United States as well as other developed and underdeveloped countries. The full name of the website is the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the URL to locate this site is http://www.midwife.org/. The purpose of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, also known as the ACNM, is to “establish midwifery as the standard of care for women and to lead the profession through education, clinical practice, research, and advocacy.” (American College of Nurse-Midwives, 2015). Evaluation of Website In regards to the five criteria used to evaluate the credibility of websites, the ACNM meets all five of the criteria set forth. “The ACNM gets its national work done through the collaborative effort of its office staff and a vast network of volunteer representatives...

...Evaluation of www.DHMO.org The website www.dhmo.org is very deceptive and biased in the information it provides. Using the five steps listed on the University of Berkeley website to evaluate this site, I will show that this site is trying to deceive people of the effects of Dihydrogen Monoxide (Evaluating Web Pages: Techniques to Apply & Questions to Ask, 2012). It is imperative in today’s age of technology that we do or due diligence and apply effective critical thing skills to verify our internet sources. The first thing I did was check the website’s URL. The site gives the appearance as being a nonprofit organization. The site is listed as Dihydrogen Monoxide Research Division. The page is not a personal page, and the name of the site correlates to the URL. So far the site would look legitimate to the average person. After taking a quick look around the page there is no background information about the organization. The only things we can learn from the site are that it is based in Newark, Delaware and is operated by Tom Way. There are no other credentials for the organization or the owner of the site. One would assume that this site is backed by the U.S. Environmental Assessment Center due to their logo being present near the top of the page. Although, after clicking the link it only redirects you to another DHMO page. Lastly, there is no way to contact the owner of the website. Next I looked for quality information. The links provided on the page give no...
