...released 4 albums titled Coltrane, Blue Train, Soultrane, and Lush Life. All contained his unique style on the tenor sax as well as gospel inspirations from the ‘Hard Bop’ jazz style. He then rejoined Davis and he contributed to the improvisation in the albums Milestones and Kind of Blue. He eventually begins to play the soprano saxophone and he started releasing music with a spiritual theme. He dies of liver cancer in 1967 at the age of 40. Bill Evans is another major contributor who is noted for his skill in playing jazz piano. He was born in 1929 in New Jersey and was exposed to the piano at the age of 3 after listening to his older brother’s lessons. By the time he was in high school he was playing professionally and he became excited by the ability to improvise in jazz. He loved jazz so much he even went to university in Louisiana near New Orleans, and by 1956 he had his first recording. In ’58 he was also hired by Miles Davis, and he played his piano in the recording of Kind of Blue. Due to the success of the recording, Evans left the band to launch his own career, in which he redesigns the traditional jazz trio and creates a type of unique dialogue between the instruments being played. He recorded more than 50 albums as a leader and he receives 5 Grammy awards, before dying because of a drug addiction in 1980. The common link between these two great performers in another legend, Miles Davis. Davis is known for revolutionizing how the trumpet is played and he is a major...

...Social Marketing Campaigns and Children’s Media Use Social Marketing Campaigns and Children’s Media Use W. Douglas Evans Summary Media-related commercial marketing aimed at promoting the purchase of products and services by children, and by adults for children, is ubiquitous and has been associated with negative health consequences such as poor nutrition and physical inactivity. But, as Douglas Evans points out, not all marketing in the electronic media is confined to the sale of products. Increasingly savvy social marketers have begun to make extensive use of the same techniques and strategies used by commercial marketers to promote healthful behaviors and to counter some of the negative effects of conventional media marketing to children and adolescents. Evans points out that social marketing campaigns have been effective in helping to prevent and control tobacco use, increase physical activity, improve nutrition, and promote condom use, as well as other positive health behaviors. He reviews the evidence from a number of major recent campaigns and programming in the United States and overseas and describes the evaluation and research methods used to determine their effectiveness. He begins his review of the field of social marketing by describing how it uses many of the strategies practiced so successfully in commercial marketing. He notes the recent development of public health brands and the use of branding as a health promotion strategy. He then goes on ...

The director of the movie, David Evans, did a good job of making the story flow. In the movie, Scotty smalls had just moved and was having a hard time making any friends. Benny lets him play baseball with them and Scotty ends up being pretty good. He hits a homer over the fence with his dad’s signed Babe Ruth ball. Will they be able to get it back without getting attacked by The Beast? The kids did a very good job of acting in this movie. ...Imagine this: it is a very hot day in July, you are watching T.V, your movements are as if you were a robot. Your fingers of your right hand are looking for a channel that gets your attention, and you found it. You have a comfortable posture in the couch, the windows open and fresh air coming through it. The T.V continues with the program until is commercial time. The commercial starts normal, then it shows a cool drink and suddenly you are thirsty. You get up and head to the refrigerator, you open it, and you got a really cold Coca-Cola. This past 200 years we have seen the big effect that ice had in our lives. It everything started as a theory, and idea, of Dr. Cullen, which the one consisted on the cooling effects of liquids evaporating in a vacuum. Then a lot more people started experimenting with this “cooling” theory. Even if he invented, he didn’t created, he just came up with the idea. Here I am going to tell you how this four scientists had revolutionized the refrigerator to how we use it today. But first let me tell you how the people did to storage their foods before the refrigerator. Do you remember the first example? Well you would said, that’s really easy, nothing to worry about. But imagine if you didn’t have the refrigerator. How would you have fresh food? How would you storage it? How would you be able to get a really cold cup of ice cream? Well we would suffer if the refrigerator wouldn’t exist. We are so dependent on the electricity and new technology that...

...Tucker nodded to her and kept going. “Cera your language in front of the child,” Lyanna rebuked. “What?” Cera shrugged and smiled impishly. “Well, tell them demons y’all better quit comin’ over and I’ll quit actin’ ugly.” Outside Evan was just finishing up with another demon who thought he would pay the Barrett house a visit in search of Liam. As he finished concealing the evil spirit’s bullet-riddled body in the lush bushes near the roadway, he saw Tucker heading his way dragging yet another corpse from the house. Evan met up with him and helped to carry the bulky dead man’s body to the end of the yard where they intended to throw it also upon the pile. “Thanks,” Tucker said as they hastily dropped the demon incarnate in the dirt next to the rest of them they had killed that night. “Sure,” responded Evan. “If that’s the last of them for now I’m going to head inside and check in on Liam.” “Okay,” replied Tucker. “I’m going to go see Terra,” he then said sounding dimwit. “Um… okay,” responded Evan, “have fun, I...

...“What a Wonderful World” was played by six instruments: the violin, the flute, the drum, the double bass, the trumpet, and the harpsichord. All of these except the flute were played throughout the song. The flute was played at a specific time though. This song made new fans of all generations, all over the world Miles Davis (May 26, 1926 – September 28, 1991) was ahead of his time as he moved from bebop to a new style cool jazz. Miles Davis was the most prominent trumpeter in the cool jazz musicians. Many other jazz trumpeters derived from his style, and tried to emulate it. Miles Davis always drove the frameworks of what were the accepted styles in jazz, and was at the foremost part of this new style. The way Davis improvised was very different from the ordinary set for jazz trumpeters at that time, and this was why he had such an immense impact on the jazz music. His solos were often played in the middle register, where he could achieve the most tuneful melodies. Entering the 1940s, young jazz musicians explored a new jazz against a commercial swing jazz. It referred to bebop, a liberal playing style. Bebop has characterized the more complex harmonic progression and melody and up tempo...

...I look up from my ‘Connect the Dots’ book and watch my mother tenderly stroke Grandfather’s hand. “Keep fighting, I know you can do it. You’ll be out of here soon Papa.” She urges forcefully, as if firm words could liberate the man from whirring ventilators and thumping heart pumps. Grandfather didn’t stir, he never did now. As if the machinery that drew his blood out of his veins and forced it back into him had stolen something vital with its twisted cold plastic. A frustrated thud on the door tears my attention to the door. I tilt my head. ‘Was it Aunt Kate this time? Or was it Uncle Evan?’ Both were quick to anger and favoured kinaesthetic expression. Grandfather liked to exclaim that it was the fire in their blood; from Grandmama of...

...change in the altitude. As the altitude increases the Air Pressure decreases and the altitude decreases Air Pressure increases. At an higher altitudes we have to breathe more often than at the sea level. If you are on Mt Evans then your ears pop to maintain the pressure. This happens because we have to maintain the outside and inside pressure. Our weather patterns change because of the air pressure. Figure – 1 – Shows the air pressure based on the altitude Figure – 2 – Graph shows Pressure vs Altitude Objective There are various experiments that can be conducted to show Air Pressue. Let us do an Egg in a bottle experiment to show Air Pressure. Doing this experiment we will develop the hypothesis on the effects of air pressure on the egg and how it squeezes it into the bottle. Experiment: Egg in a bottle Things or items required to perform egg in a bottle: 1. Eggs 2. Saucepan and stove to boil the eggs. 3. Wide-mouth bottle and bottle mouth should be smaller than the boiled egg. 4. Vegetable oil. 5. Matches 6. Paper strips to burn Figure – 3 - Items required to perform the Experiment What need to be done with the items listed above? 1. Take the eggs and add water into saucepan and boil them for 10 minutes on a medium heat. Let it cool down for about 25 minutes before adding them to cold water. 2. Using a paper towel rub the vegetable oil to the inside edge of the bottle mouth which acts as a lubrication between the bottle and egg. 3. Peel one of the...

...Buildings More Sustainable- Toronto is North America's 'High-rise boomtown'. That being said, Toronto has 130 high-rise buildings under construction as of the beginning of this year, 92% of which are residential. Also note that most are exclusively condominiums (Evans, 2014). With the growing numbers of condominiums in a highly populated city, the concern becomes, what ecological impact will it have. With all these new residential buildings going up, it is time to start thinking about, “How can we make residential high-rises more sustainable in Toronto?” in terms of energy conservation and efficiency. If this significant problem is overlooked it could cause serious issues with our city, our ecosystems could be wiped out completely, our air and water could be entirely con-taminated, and it could diminish our natural resources. It affects more than just the residents whom live in the buildings, it affects the developers/builders, the residents of neighbouring buildings, even the kids that play in the park across the street. This paper will look at the problem and some possible solutions in terms of using renewable energy sources to sustain residential high-rises. Methods including Geothermal energy to heat and cool the building, Green-roofs that can be used to grow plants/food and can gather rain water, Cistern tank to catch all the rainwater that can then be used to wash clothes and flush toilets and possibly also for irrigation purposes if need be, Wind energy to provide electricity...
