God created Adam and found him wanting. Enter Eve, formed from Adam’s rib, made of the same raw materials as he, and given the power to choose between good and evil?. In the creation story we find a strong, interdependent Eve, fully engaged with the world around her. She explored the Garden, dialogued with a serpent, decided on the forbidden fruit, and liked it enough to share the experience with Adam.
Hagar, the Stranger Welcomed by God Bible Ref:Genesis 16:1-16 and 21:1-21
After God promised He would make of Abram a great nation, Sarai, past childbearing age, suggested he impregnate her maid Hagar. Be careful what you ask for. Once Hagar was pregnant, Sarai regretted her scheme, and heaped so much abuse on Hagar that the weary woman fled. There, in the wilderness, the slave, whose name means, “stranger,” received a comforting message. “The Lord has heard you. God has answered you.” Hagar returned to her abusive mistress with a promise that her own son’s descendants would be too many to count
Rahab, a Harlot with a Heart of Gold Bible Ref: Joshua 2:1-24

She single-handedly saved two of Joshua’s spies by hiding them, lying to the authorities, and helping the pair to escape. Deborah, the Warrior Princess Bible Ref: Judges 4 and 5
In a time in which it was improper for a woman to be alone in a house with a man, Deborah sat outside beneath a palm tree and judged Israel. After 20 years of oppression, it was she who summoned the military general Barak to take ten thousand soldiers and storm Mt. Tabor against their enemy Sisera. Barak answered, “If you go with me.” Deborah agreed, but told Barak he’d receive no glory. “The Lord will have Sisera fall into the power of a woman.” This prophecy would have dual meaning, for not only would Deborah be remembered as the real leader of this victory, Sisera would literally fall because of a woman.

Is the Bible Antifeminist

...Is the Bible Antifeminist Is the Bible Antifeminist? No, the Bible is not antifeminist. The Bible is more feminist, than it is antifeminist. Even though there are places in the Bible where women are important, there are many more places in the Bible where women do not have equal rights as men. Even two of the most important women in the Bible, were not portrayed as equal to men. The first woman mentioned in the Bible, is Eve. Eve, was Adam’s wife. Was Eve portrayed with the same rights as Adam? No, Eve was not. First Eve was said to be created from the rib of Adam, a man. Also Adam was the one who called Eve a woman. “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man” (Genesis 2:23). When God came to look for Adam and Eve, he did not call for Eve, he called for Adam. Also when God punished Adam and Eve, God told Eve “Thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee” (Genesis 3:16). Also the only children of Adam and Eve that the Bible name, are both men, Cain and Able. Another important woman in the Bible, is Mary, the mother of Jesus. In the book of Matthew, Mary does not have a say about her pregnancy. Mary’s pregnancy is discussed by two male characters. The male characters are Joseph, and an angel of God. Also in the book of John, Jesus and Mary are at a wedding, and she asks Jesus to do something about the wine that is running low. Jesus refers to Mary not as his mother...

1408

...“1408”: Stephen King’s retelling of Adam and Eve Since the dawn of time, man has always told the story of creation. From different cultures to different religions, there have always been similarities of the first days on Earth. From Milton’s “Paradise Lost”, Percy Shelly’s “The Revolt of Islam”, to D.H. Lawrence’s “Sons and Lovers” the story of creation has been found in most works of literature. No doubt, the story of origin has been repeatedly told to reach a new younger audience so that it does not become outdated and lost in time. Different genres in literature help reach a younger, more various, audience to read about the story of how we came to be. In Stephen King’s “1408”, from the geographic boundaries to the substantial parallels of biblical figures, the heavy use of symbolism implies Stephen King is retelling the biblical story of Adam and Eve for a modern generation. By examining the geographical location of The Dolphin Hotel in King’s short story, the reader recognizes that the hotel is the Garden of Eden. “In the Holy book of the Hebrew faith, the Torah, it states that Eden is in the center of Earth” (Rabbi Katz). The Christian Bible states, “The Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden” (The Holy Bible, Genesis. 2.8). With this religious geographical insight, we must next examine where the fictitious Dolphin Hotel would be located if it was in the real world. King states that the hotel is “on Sixty-First Street, around the corner from Fifth Avenue”...

Reflections Paper

...have learned so far in this course. II. Part One a. Theological Definition The beginning of the Fall of Man begins in the passage that took place when Adam and Eve, went from being obedient to God to being defiant of God. Adam and Eve were created with purity and were to obey God their creator. Then Satan came a long and convinced Eve and Adam to disobey God by eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge. This was the beginning of sin, and what I believe, was the period, that became known as, the Fall of Man. b. Biblical Foundation As described in Genesis 1:1-31, God is the creator of all living things, plants, animals and humans. God created Adam from dust and Eve was created from Adam’s rib, both were created in God’s image. God made the Garden of Eden a place where all of Adams and Eves desire for sustaining life could be met. God’s only restriction for Adam and Eve was not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. (Genesis 2-17). Eve was approached by a serpent who had persuaded her to eat the fruit from the tree that God told them not to. Then Eve talked Adam into eating the fruit from that same tree. After eating the fruit from the tree, both Adam and Eve began to view the world in a different way. When God became aware of what had happened with Adam and Eve, God forbade them from returning to the Garden of Eden. This was the beginning of the Fall of Man. (Genesis 3:1-24) c. Practical Application: I remember when I was...

Genesis Thesis

...1)In the story of Adam and Eve, “the most cunning of all beasts” tempts Eve into eating the fruit from the tree that God clearly stated not to eat from (Gen 3:1). The fruit was also shared with Adam and their eyes were opened, now possessing the knowledge of good and evil. This beast, the serpent, is often debated to be the devil amongst many scholars and theologians. Is this possible when there is no textual reference to Satan or Lucifer in Chapter 3 of Genesis? This difficult question contains many questions and theories within, making it one of the most interesting mysteries of the Old Testament.2) However, after truly understanding the context and clues surrounding the serpent’s role in this creation story, it can be stated that Satan uses the serpent as his instrument in tempting Eve to disobey the Lord. 3) The Bible refers to Satan as an ancient serpent, but does not identify him with the Genesis serpent. With this said, it would be safe to say that there is no connection between Satan and the serpent. However, according to conservative Christian teachings, the whole Bible is divinely inspired and so were those, in various Councils, who selected which books were to be included in the Bible. So, from this initial belief, it makes perfect sense to interpret earlier writings in light of later ones as well as vice versa. With this theory in mind, it makes it plausible to use future references of Satan presented in the entirety of the Bible as a basis of understanding of the...

Human Nature Bible

...Human nature is found in the bible from each characters actions and reactions. The Bible has stories that define and show actions of human nature, but not all stories have the same definition of human nature. Therefore in the Bible as in Literature human nature can’t be defined because of the vast and broad acts the humans have in the bible. When Eve was tempted by God to eat the apple did it have a satisfactory end or would it have been better to leave the apple and live in Garden of Eden. God was testing Adam and Eve to see if they will obey God or disobey him. God gave them free will to determine their own fate and make their own decisions because he loved them so much. Was this an exceptional decision to God? Human nature is effected...

Frankenstein

...we had not experienced love and, ultimately, what would each of us be like without experiencing love? The Holy Bible provides numerous examples of a perfect love from the Creator and explains that people have been created to love. Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus, creates questions about the responsibility of a creator, and what can happen when some basic responsibilities of a creator are ignored. The novel describes a monster and his actions due to his creator abandoning him. Throughout Mary Shelley’s novel, there is the question of who really is the monster? Victor Frankenstein, the creator of the monster, can easily be compared to the Judeo-Christian God and the story of creation found in the book of Genesis. The God referred to as the creator of all mankind is driven by love for his creation, but Victor Frankenstein is driven to create by his own personal ideas of grandiosity and ego. The Holy Bible is the account of the Judeo-Christian God’s action in the world and his purpose for all creation. The writing of the Holy Bible took place over sixteen centuries, and is the work of over forty human authors. There are sixty-six books that provide various lessons for living and moral conduct, examples of love from a Creator, and a starting point for creation. In Genesis, the first book of the Holy Bible, we are introduced to Adam and Eve. God places Adam, the first man in the Judeo-Christian tradition, in the Garden of Eden with clear instructions...

Let’s just take a look at my life. Few years ago, I used the typewriter to write papers. Now, I am using a computer to write the paper. In the morning, the alarm clock wakes me up. I turn on the faucet to get water to brush my teeth. I pour out already brewed coffee from programmed coffee maker. I drive a car to get to the places. Bible Dictionary

...Bible Dictionary Project-Old Testament Book: Job The book of Job is the eighteenth book in the Bible and is a book about Faith, Pride and Loyalty. Job was a God-Fearing man who was faithful and loyal to God and His word, and God’s pride for Job caused him to boast about Job while having a conversation with Satan, then giving Satan permission to test just how faithful Job would be if he were to lose everything he had. Job was a wealthy man but Satan was going see how faithful Job really was to God. Satan caused Job to lose all of his material possessions, caused him to become sick and endured tremendous suffering all while his family and friends turned their backs on him, telling him that he brought on all of his suffering on himself because of his sins, but Job never allowed what he was going through to cause him to reject God. As stated in the Amplified Bible Introduction to the book of Job, “Neither the time when Job lived nor the author can be determined with any certainty.” Some of the book was written in the second millennium B.C. (2000-1000). The key theme discussed in the book of Job is suffering and how it relates to righteous living and Job proved to God that even during the times when he was being tested by losing all that he had, He continued to believe in God, and as stated in the (Amplified Bible Job 42:10) “And the Lord turned captivity of Job and restored his fortunes, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.”...

Creation Vs Evolution Research Paper

...mankind was introduced to Earth? How it is possible that humans now conquer the Earth? These questions relate to one of the biggest debates in world history. This debate argues if the world was created from evolution or by God, who created Adam and Eve. Evolution says, that life evolved from species, while the creation method says that God created Adam and Eve, mother and father to us all. In our society today, we are split in the thought process of how the world and mankind came about. Was it by the all-powerful God, or does science effectively explain these answers? Truth is, no one knows for sure how anything came to be about. We have scientific evidence to back evolution, and the biblical text to back the creation myths. In the ever-going argument of evolution vs creation, it is by far more plausible to say that man derived from evolution rather...

...created Man, and then created Woman from the man’s rib. Adam and Eve were created. Genesis 1:11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. Adam and Eve were God’s children, they were to walk the earth peacefully and eat from the gardens that God provided but not the Forbidden tree. Eve was persuaded into to eating the apple and persuaded Adam as well. This is how mankind became aware of right from wrong, they became vulnerable to temptation by worldly things, and they started to questions Gods very existence. And Man was cursed to the ground and work for their fruits; women were cursed pain during child birth and to always be submissive to their husbands. It’s easy to see now how after years and years after Adam and Eve there is so much corruption. My world view is that mankind has fallen for worldly things not remerging where they came from. Woman now marries Woman. Men marry men. God’s purpose for Adam and Eve was to populate the world with children and build families that would Praise God and be pure. Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make human beings in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. Allusions In A Raisin In The Sun

...As I read through A Raisin in the Sun again, I found a decent amount of allusions to the Bible. And after a little bit of reading in my own Bible, since I don’t know enough about it to just assume, I found out what those allusions meant. First, the phrase “30 pieces and not a coin less!” (page 118) is an expression Beneatha uses when Carl Lindner is around discussing with Walter about buying the house. The quote, found in Matthew 26:15, explains how Judas sold Jesus as a slave and betrayed him for money. This would relate to how Walter has the choice to sell their house, which would be betraying his family, or not accepting the offer, which would be his moment of moral reconciliation. Also, found in Genesis 2:7-21, Beneatha references Adam...

Adam and Eve or Adam and Steve

...Devin Brumfield Maldonado/Period5 English 2 5 November 2013 Adam and Eve…or Adam and Steve? The following is a persuasive essay that argues two points: whether same-sex marriage is wrong and whether it is not. Before this essay is started out, here are a few interesting facts on homosexuality and same-sex marriage. The Netherlands was the first nation to legalize same sex marriage (in 2001). Same sex marriage is outlawed in 76 countries as of 2013. These are just a few out of the ma ny facts about homosexuality/same-sex marriage. This essay has several key points to why same-sex marriage is okay. Same sex marriage/attraction is not a sin and the Bible and history is wrong about the definition of ‘traditional marriage’, it does not affect heterosexual values/attraction, it increases the number of adopted orphans, I) Traditional marriage (same sex marriage isn’t considered a traditional marriage because its same sex) isn’t historically/culturally accurate a. The Random House Dictionary (circa 1970) defines marriage as “the state of being married”. Today, many Americans like to define marriage as “a bond between a man and a woman only”. Traditionally, Christians (who make up America’s religion census) oppose the concept of same-sex marriage because in the Bible it is viewed as a “sin”. Protest and posters that read “Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” and “God hates fags” all because same sex marriage isn’t “traditional” marriage. The shocking thing is that it isn’t...

Homosexuality & Same Sex Marriage

...wrong, and some people just do not care or just do not want to talk about it. Homosexuality is on the rise in the United States as well as many other countries. Homosexuality and same sex marriages are rising; marriages are taking place. In the eyes of the church, God and many others this is a socially incorrect relationship. Throughout the United States and other countries, Homosexuality or same sex marriages defies the laws of Christianity and it is an immoral acts in Gods eyes and society. God created humanity to be fertile, Adam and Eve to be heterosexuals to populate the world with a heterosexual raise. In Genesis 2:4 to 2:25 it states specifically that a man and woman, one flesh one body.
