...greatest Jamaican film ever made, The Harder They Come is also one of the finest films yet made about the third world.” (2001). At first glance Perry Henzell appears to be using a narrative to document Jamaican roots Reggae music (especially that of Jimmy Cliff); but although The Harder They Come went a long way towards creating a huge global Reggae following the film had many other underlying issues. Even though most critics (Cham, Parker, Yearwood and others) discuss the film as the one that popularised Reggae music in the West it is the task here to illustrate that The Harder They Come brought Jamaican society and its culture into cinematic visibility. Cinema in Jamaica had only a western and predominantly Hollywood face until the release of The Harder They Come, but the meta-filmic self awareness of Henzell’s socially involved movie proved this was going to change. Jamaica as a country was in a relatively new social, political, and economical climate, its main export industries were changing from bananas and coffee to bauxite and alumina, and the country experienced a...

...harassed, or discriminated against. This type of law suit has become popular and effective in fighting fraud and abuse because of this protection (Showalter, 2012). In healthcare, sometimes the qui tam plaintiffs argue that a claim involving a kickback or an illegal doctor self-referral is a violation of the False Claims Act (FCA). The case may be legitimate otherwise. One case is the United States ex rel. Marcus v. Hess. In this WWII case the contractor’s claims were fraudulent because the contract was secured through collusion. Another case, United States ex. rel. Woodard v. Country View Care Center, Inc. involved defendants who submitted cost reports to Medicare payments to “consultants” that was really kickbacks for referrals. The FCA applied to this case because the defendants’ reimbursement was based on these cost reports. In United States v. Kensington Hospital, the case was filed after arguments resulted from the start of the prospective payment system relating to Medicaid reimbursement, government losses, and the cost of kickbacks not making false claims. United States ex rel. Pogue v. American Healthcorp, the FCA case...

The board determines the amount of the dividend, as well as when it is to be paid to shareholders of record. • 3 Record Date: This is the date on which a company reviews its books to determine its shareholders of record. Shareholders who hold a particular stock on this date will receive the firm's dividend payment. • 2 Ex-Dividend Date: After the Record Date has been determined, the stock exchanges or the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) assign the ex-dividend date. ...Prison Work Release Does it help in recidivism? The reason I choose to write on this topic is to explain the work release program in prison for recidivism. In addition, while working in corrections I worked at a work release center. While these issues among the general public is somewhat complex, the program itself is fairly straightforward. Prison work release allows an inmate in custody with the Department of Corrections to live at a prison work release center and to go out in the community independently and find employment. The Department of Corrections does not find jobs for the inmates. The inmate must search for jobs and interview like anyone else looking for a job. Inmates walk, ride a bicycle, or use public transportation to look for a job. Once they obtain a job they use the same methods to get to their job. The Department of Corrections also does not pay for the use of public transportation. In order to find employment some centers require inmates to buy a bus pass that is valid for at least one month. However, since most inmates do not have any money to buy a bus pass they rely on family or anybody they can convince to send them money. The general public is somewhat leery about allowing inmates to be free to work with the general public. Sometimes when a person of the general public learns that an inmate is working at a restaurant they patronize they won’t return to the establishment. Some people might wonder what the purpose of it is. Will it prevent the offender...

...Executive Summary: Pricing and Packaging Recommendation We recommend CSP (Ex 6 –Features) to use skimming pricing strategy and thus we suggest pricing the Metabical at $150 for 1 months supply, with this price Metabical will be able to achieve their objective to enter $ 3.74 billion market for weight control products in the United states and more than 5% ROI within 5 years. For ROI refer (Ex-8(a)(b)(c)(d)) and for pricing and Economic Value Analysis (Ex 7). This recommendation is based on the economic value comparison against other competitors such as Alli and OTC Orlistat. In addition to selling a monthly supply of Metabical for $150, we recommend selling a value pack consisting of 3 months supply – One complete 12 week course for $300, with a notion – “Get 3 for the price of 2”; without compromising net revenue –(Ex 7-pkging- pricing). We also recommend using Blister packaging with numbers so that people do not forget taking their pills. In order to achieve their objective CSP should use new product development and market differentiation as their Product Marketing strategy. With a positioning statement --“THE RIGHT PRODUCT FOR RIGHT YOU”. Metabical should target college educated, heath conscious females ages 35-65 looking to shed few extra pounds and thereby raising their self-esteem. Service Management Team From: Date: August 1, 2012 Re: Talking Points for Customer Inquires CC: Executive Leadership Team As you all know, ‘Game Wars – Journey to Mars’ is scheduled to release in November, 2012. Over the past two years, developers have been working day and night to create the latest edition to the series. On June 1, 2012 beta testing began and game reviewers began to share their findings with the public via a variety of social outlets creating a buzz in the gaming community. Marketing campaigns to promote the holiday release began in July 1, 2012. Pre-orders were made available on July 15, 2012 which quickly began to threaten supply versus demand. On July 17, 2012, a bug was detected in the game that dramatically impacts the quality of game play. As a result, Chief Executive Officer, Walter Goodwyn hired a team of consultants to dissect the issue and determine the best course of action. After careful consideration, we are planning on releasing the game on time with the intention of releasing a free patch to correct the issues. The patch will release in January 2013 and will include a promotion code for gamers to purchase an in-game premium item of their choice. ...over their felonies and are therefore likely to transform or cleanse themselves. With time, discipline, and hard labor were introduced in the practice to be partaken silently. This, according to the reformers helped the prisoners to meditate over their felonious practices. The rehabilitative efforts have undergone various changes and currently, most of them assume a more community based approach. The common method employed in this regard pertains to parole. Woodard (2011) defines parole as the release of an imprisoned offender who agrees to established rules even though he or she has to be closely monitored for a given period. This release is provisional and allows the offender to serve the remaining term from within the community. This differs from mandatory release in different ways. Essentially, the parole boards have the discretion to either accord or deny the parole. This is unlike mandatory release that does not require any decision- making process. The rules for mandatory release are distinct, and its accordance or denial depends on the qualification of the offender. Russell (2011) also points...

...Chapter One Introdution: Fundamentals of Business Writing I. The major differences between school writing and business writing School writing, typically in the form of essays, is aimed at impressing the audience, i.e. examiners. To score high, student writers have to use fairly complicated vocabulary and sentences in their written work. Business writers, however, mainly aim to communicate information to their colleagues, clients, and other associated parties. They are relatively free to use what language that can get the business done efficiently and effectively. II. Seven steps in the process of wring 1. clarifying your aim 2. identifying your readers 3. making a general plan 4. sketching a synopsis (大纲) 5. drafting your text 6. putting the draft aside 7. revising and editing ★ Writing is a recursive and creative process. The detailed plan is not adhered to in actual writing. Writers frequently come up with ideas that are activated in the process of writing. Writers read the text they have already produced to help generate more ideas. In effect, the writing process is no linear at all but is characterized by recursive ness and creativeness. III. Three principles of business writing 1. Clarity – means setting your message across clearly. (See detailed information on page 4) 2. Consideration – good business writers take their readers’ needs, problems, and reactions to the writing into consideration. And they...

...History Once upon a time, by the Nokianvirta river… In 1865, mining engineer Fredrik Idestam sets up his first wood pulp mill at the Tammerkoski Rapids in south-western Finland. A few years later he opens a second mill on the banks of the Nokianvirta river, which inspires him to name his company Nokia Ab in 1871. How apt that Nokia begins by making paper – one of the most influential communications technologies in history. The galoshes revolution OK, so it’s not exactly a revolution. But in 1898, Eduard Polón founds Finnish Rubber Works, which later becomes Nokia’s rubber business, making everything from galoshes to tyres. Nokia rubber boots become a bona fide design classic, still on sale to this day – though we no longer make them. Electronics go boom In 1912, Arvid Wickström sets up Finnish Cable Works, the foundation of Nokia’s cable and electronics business. By the 1960s, Finnish Cable Works – already working closely with Nokia Ab and Finnish Rubber Works – starts branching out into electronics. In 1962, it makes its first electronic device in-house: a pulse analyser for use in nuclear power plants. In 1963, it starts developing radio telephones for the army and emergency services – Nokia’s first foray into telecommunications. In time, the company’s MikroMikko becomes the best known computer brand in Finland. And by 1987, Nokia is the third largest TV manufacturer in Europe. Three become one Having been jointly owned since 1922, Nokia Ab, Finnish Cable Works...

...disparate racial impact, employers must show a business necessity before automatically disqualifying criminals. Employment Discrimination Toward Felons In today’s society we have over 12 million felons in our employment epidemic. Where do we draw the line when it comes to our economy, our fellow Americans living and job opportunities for those who have criminal backgrounds wanting to make positive changes in their lives? Do we continue to use a past life against the possibility of change and let them suffer because of the choices made or do we give that chance of a life time and let them transition into a more positive life? How do we determine who is fit for employment today?, we the people of today’s workforce should be helping those ex-felons or one’s with a criminal background to transition without judgment giving them a chance to make better choices without falling back into their old habits of criminal activities. According to one estimate there are currently 12 million felons in the United States, which cannot even apply for simple jobs nor certain licenses in many states, as of 1998, seven states absolutely barred felons from public employment. (Thompson and Manza 2000). Other states had more narrow restrictions, for instance, only covering infamous crimes or felonies involving moral turpitude. Some laws have been criticized for being over inclusive;(Ben Geiger July 2006) for instance, a law banning all criminals from working in health care jobs could prevent a person...

...Do Inmates Deserve a Second Chance? Cari Adee, James Crooms, Latandra Sain, Taylor Cotter, Rodney Henry, Breanna Johnson, Latonia Pitts BCOM/275 7/20/2014 Do inmates deserve a second chance? Every time that you turn on the news you see it: School shootings, babies being left in the car by parents, people selling and doing drugs, people being murdered, raped and assaulted. According to the inter press services, in the last three decades people that are in prison have increased almost 790 percent, in the last 30 years the inmates count has risen from 25,000 to 219,000 and is still rising at a disrupting rate. The question that we need to ask ourselves is if the people that get out of prison deserve a second chance at a normal life. Everyone has a different opinion on this topic. Some people will agree that once a person serves time for the crime that they committed then they deserve a chance to start over. While others think that those who committed a crime should have thought about their actions before they did the things that they did. This paper will not just go over to the pros of why inmates deserve a second chance but the cons as well, in hopes that whoever reads this paper will make their own judgments based on all the information and not just part of the evidence. There are many pros for why a criminal deserves a second chance at life. For instance, many criminals have families that are in need of their assistance, financially, physically, and emotionally. There...
