Exam Technique
How far do Sources 2 and 3 support the impression of ….. given in Source1? Explain your answer using the evidence of Sources 1,2 and 3 (20 marks)

Technique
This is an example of your first question. It is a short answer question and you should not write more than three or four paragraphs. You are only asked to write a judgement on the evidence. The question does not ask you to write about the specific event. However, you will apply your own knowledge to help you comprehend the sources and the issues they raise.
Steps
1. Analyse the impression given in Source 1 – what was it written for? What image does it conjure up? Select a few words from Source 1 to support your analysis. 2. Use Sources 2 and 3 to explore whether the impression is confirmed, developed or modified by their evidence. Take into account the nature, origin and purpose (NOP) of the sources 3. Reach a conclusion about how far the impression given in Source 1 is supported.
How do you cross reference effectively?
Cross referencing means making direct connections between two or more sources by identifying and examining areas of agreement and disagreement between them, with reference to specific examples from the sources. As part of this process, it is vital that you use brief quotations to support your examination of the agreement or disagreement between the sources.
Many students start their main points with a paragraph or more on how the sources broadly agree with each other over the question, and then follow this with separate paragraphs examining the ways in which they disagree. Paragraphs that simply list examples of agreement or disagreement can tend to look a little black and white and are unlikely to achieve a level 3 or above. It is also important that you try to see the areas od agreement (or disagreement) as a starting point from which you will develop your ideas, making sure you focus on how far the sources agree.

Exam Question
Study Sources 1, 2 and 3.
How far do Sources 1 and 2 challenge the impression of the Charge of the Light Brigade given in Source 3?
Explain your answer, using the evidence of Sources 1, 2 and 3. (20)

Source 3 | | | Supports | Challenges | Source 1 | | | Source 2 | | |

Reaching a developed judgement
If you structure your answer so that you focus on points that are broadly in agreement, then points that are broadly in disagreement, you need to make sure that you examine the grey areas – the bits in between. This might mean introducing a final point that examines the grey areas, or an extended conclusion that weights up how far they agree.
Good answers may try to reach judgements as they proceed. This means more than just adding sentences at the end of each paragraph to say whether the sources agree. With the emphasis on ‘how far’ as you develop your points, try to give judgements that show the reasoning for your decision.
A strong conclusion always helps. This should weigh up how far the sources agree or disagree and return fully to the question. Strong conclusions often weigh up the points and judgements that have been made throughout the answer. Without repeating what you have said, you might refer back to key issues about the evidence or views in the source.

H/wk
Study Sources 1, 2 and 3.
How far do the sources suggest that Captain Nolan was to blame for the disastrous charge by the Light Brigade at Balaclava?
Explain your answer, using the evidence of Sources 1, 2 and 3. (20)

J'Agisse

...production units. An effective supervisor ought to be a trained observer and possess record keeping skills. Also, they should know how the job is done and the time required to accomplish. Observation is simple to use and acquires first-hand information. However, the method can cause bias to some workers and is also time-consuming. Questionnaires method can also be used in the job analysis process. The technique is further categorized in two i.e. open-ended questionnaires or well-structured questionnaires. The former can be utilized by both the supervisors and incumbents while open inquiry requires only the workers to describe the job how they understand it. The technique can reach more workers, but the responses could be incomplete making it difficult to interpret. Interviewing applied in the job analysis process. In this method, the employees and other incumbents are interviewed individually after which the results are aggregated (Algera & Greuter, 2013). Other times a group interview is performed by selecting several incumbents who undergo interview at the same time. The technique works well with for occupations with long cycles. Use of a checklist has been frequently applied to job analysis. A list is filled by either the supervisor or an incumbent. The method is preferred as it is economical and very simple to administer. Technical conference method is preferable in the organization dealing with processing. It involves the collaboration of...

...same subdued, muted colors” (Sasika line 10 &12). From the diction used, subdued and muted gives us insight on the character of the mother, a synonym of this is quite giving the reader the impression that the mother is also quite. Later on in the prose it goes on to say, “All in browns and neutral shades, the color she preferred”(Sasika), this line shows that the mother preferred colors, which reflected the mother’s sense of emotion through the use of the color of the string. The symbolism throughout the prose is portrayed by the different colors the mother uses to loom with which connects to her state of mind/emotion. She uses a technique to disguise her true emotions by hiding them in a plain boring piece of work, “Startling the eye when it was turned over” (Sasika line 18), this could symbolize the fact that the mother would use this technique to show people two different emotions, one which is plain on one side an other which is more happy and bouncy if people paid closer attention to the minute details....
