H.E. McCracken is a Middle School that temporally houses 9th graders as a new high school is being built in Beaufort County school District. During my day of observation I had the pleasure to observe three different special education classes: a math resource class, self-contained math class and inclusion math class. As the first semester winnows down these 9th graders are preparing for their End of Course (EOC) exams on their Dell tablets for testing in the areas of math and ELA. Students that do not pass their EOC will have a 9th grade status but will be moved to the new high school and take 10th grade classes for the rest of their classes.
In Ms. Castrisis (affectionately known as Ms. C) Resource class, students began with a 12 question …show more content…
Sienicki assisted by teacher assistant and translator Ms. Valdez. These students utilized a Promethium board and low-tech assistive technology of multiplication charts. Unfortunately, many challenging behaviors occurred. One student refused to do participate and stared at his hands for nearly an hour. Another student followed the teacher around the room and another was an ELL student that has been in the country since the beginning of the school year. The T.A was native speaker and had to focus the majority of her time with the ELL student. Mr. Sienicki, had a prepared a pre-teaching activity to teach students about multiplying and dividing negative and positive integers, with one student reprinting a negative integer and the rest of the class would remain positive however was modified to just a lecture as students were unable to follow instructions. This class was twice as long as normal class and students also lose their 10-minute break as a result of their challenging behaviors.
In the concluding class, an inclusion class taught by Ms. Wofford, the student from the resource class was in the larger inclusion class of 30 students with Mr. Gore as the special education teacher in this inclusion class. He was absent. At the head sat a Deaf interpreter for two students with cochlear implants. These students sat in the front row and communicated questions through their interpreter. All students were preparing for their EOCs and calculators, notes, worksheets and other previous work were used to as review for this

...Observation During the first field visit to Bolich middle school the observation consisted of two different language arts class rooms. The classroom that was observed first was a class of eighth graders. There were Twenty-three students, broken down to thirteen girls and ten boys. As I entered the room it was the middle of their class.
