...Make No Excuse Jeremiah 1 Jesse We are skillful at the art of making excuses, aren’t we? “I don’t know how.” “I didn’t understand.” “I couldn’t find the right tools.” “I threw out my back bowling.” “I have a Doctor’s appointment.” “There’s been a death in the family.” “The hazmat crew is here and won’t let me out of the house.” “I have a relative coming in from Hawaii and I need to pick them up at the airport.” And, my all- time favorite: In the Christian world, we can find all sorts of excuses not to obey God’s voice: “It’s the preacher’s job.” “It’s not my gift.” “I’ve already served, let someone else do it.” “I’m too busy or too tired or too old or too young.” It has been said, “Excuses are tools of the incompetent, and those who specialize in them seldom go far.” Ben Franklin wrote, “He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.” Gabriel Meurier stated, “He who excuses himself, accuses himself.” Jeremiah had every excuse ready when God called him to be a prophet. His excuses are often our excuses for not heeding God’s voice when he calls. Countering each excuse was a promise from God. I. The excuse: The task is demanding Jeremiah was called to be “a prophet unto the nations” (Jer. 1:5), not a priest like his father and his grandfather. A prophet was a chosen and authorized spokesman for God who declared God’s Word to the people. We often think of prophets as people who can tell the future. But a prophet spoke messages to the present that...

...The Ultimate Excuse Note I would like to excuse my behaviour and performance at the Video Music Awards this year. Lately I have not been myself. Since I was a little girl I have always been known as either my fathers daughter or “Hannah Montana” - and I am tired of it. I do not want to be “Hannah Montana” anymore. I want to be a grown up musician and actress, but it is hard to be when I know how many children are watching what I do. I know it was wrong of me to smoke marijuana public. It send a wrong picture out to the children, and I do not want them to think it is okay or cool, or anything similar to that. It was stupid and wrong of me. When you are famous, like I am, you cannot have any privacy. Everything you do will come out public, and that is why I know now that I have to be more careful with my doings. Many people have commented on the video of me “twerking” up against Robin Thicke at the Video Music Awards this year, and I have read some of those comments. One person commented: “Only because she grew up it did not mean she needed to turn into a whore. Think about all the children that liked her”, and another person this: “Miley is trying to be a slut – not an adult!”. I would like to answer on those comments in this excuse note. As I said earlier, I want to be known as a grown up musician and actress, and I am sorry that it went so wrong. It was never in my intention to act like a prostitute, I just wanted to seem adult. But instead of “twerking” Robin Thicke...

...In the article ‘A Poor Excuse for Marriage’, the author brings forward a very good point. The idea that marriage gets a woman out of poverty is a myth. In some cases, a woman with ah good paying job could marry a man with the same good paying job and still end up poor. Marriage does not guarantee that if the woman is in poverty that she would get out of it. No one, be it government or individual has the power to tell anyone to get married. Marriage should be an important decision that is thought out carefully before undertaken. A marriage just for the sake of getting out of poverty is the same as an arrange marriage in my book. The 22-year-old woman in the article is doing what is best for her and the child and not what society may think. I...

...In an unfortunate circumstance, a mentally handicapped 12-year-old boy was killed. He was shot in the leg, fell and hit his head on the corner of the dresser, which fractured his skull and caused his death. The shooter, Katie, is claiming self-defense as an excuse for the murder. The case should be examined further before any decision can be made as to if this excuse is a just one. On one hand, this boy was completely harmless. He was new to the neighborhood, and happened to mistake Katie’s apartment for his own. On top of that, his mental disability provides further information that can explain why a 12-year-old boy could make this error. Katie may have woke up feeling disoriented and couldn’t tell whether this figure was a child or a man,...

...“Never let the fear of failure be an excuse for not trying. Society tells us that to fail is the most terrible thing in the world, but I know it isn’t. Failure is part of what makes us human.” Amber Deckers, Ella Mental and the Good Sense Guide It is universally accepted that from ancient times humanity makes everything possible to comprehend or invent something new and to develop what has already been discovered. To be quite plain it cannot go without mistakes in this case. In spite of all our wishes and intentions, making false steps turns out to be inseparable part of our life. Moreover failure is considered to be one of the greatest man’s fears. There is no need to deny the fact that up-to-date life is sure to lay high claims to every person and to enhance the importance of competition. Seeking after perfection and willing to make some favorable impression one, in contrast, grows weaker before failure. Frankly speaking the very point, not to be forgotten, is that perfection exists only in our imagination but not in real life. Thus understanding of such thing can become the only way to accept one’s own and somebody else’s failure. You can’t but take into account that all greatest discoveries happened mostly by trial and error. Society imposes certain conditions, according to what it can result in the fear of misfortune that leads us, in turn, to more sizable blunder. Right for mistake means often the right for some innovation, research, experiment...

...forgiven. No exceptions to it. He doesn't say that we are to forgive other people's sins, provided they are not too frightful, or provided there are extenuating circumstances, or anything of that sort. We are to forgive them all, however spiteful, however mean, however often they are repeated. If we don't we shall be forgiven none of our own. Now it seems to me that we often make a mistake both about God's forgiveness of our sins and about the forgiveness we are told to offer to other people's sins. Take it first about God's forgiveness, I find that when I think I am asking God to forgive me I am often in reality (unless I watch myself very carefully) asking Him to do something quite different. I am asking him not to forgive me but to excuse me. But there is all the...

...as a professional to possess the ability to make ethical decisions. There is not a bright flashing arrow that points to the right choice. On the contrary, the lines a are often blurred and even the best choice can fall into a grey area. The following paragraphs will explore five common excuses people give for making unethical decisions and what a person can do to overcome the excuses so as not to breach their personal value system. Individual life experiences, culture, family, and friendships all help a person to form their personal values and standards. Practical reasoning can be used to determine what is right and what is wrong weather in an individuals personal life or in a business setting. The first excuse for making a decision that is deemed unethical is the ignorance is bliss excuse. Most people are raised to believe that it is wrong to tell a lie. Without having the foundation for good decision making it is easier to justify telling a lie. One may have the knowledge that it is wrong but may also believe that it is okay if the circumstance is appropriate. They use the excuse that they were not taught early on that it is inappropriate to lie no matter the circumstance. A second excuse that many use it that it really is not that big of a deal. According to Vora (2012), People can have the attitude of “the world has changed it’s values so I must change mine too.” Vora also states that most people do not want to be labeled as boring or traditional and so they go with the...

...religion. Unfortunetly, religion is not just about faith anymore, but an excuse for control and manipulation, and discrimination. In Neil deGrasse Tyson's work "The Perimeter of Ignorance", he talks about scientists using God. Many influential scientists throughout history have used God to explain some phenomenon they themselves could not explain at the time. In his work, Tyson states "plenty of scientists besides Newton have called on God-or gods-wherever their comprehension fades to ignorance". Unfortunelty, what they do not realize is how it is holding them back from more knowledge. God simply just became a convenience for them, an excuse when they did not have an answer. In a way, that is exactly what is...

...those habits, excuses and beliefs that keep us bound to mediocrity. The book begins with a story of a family with eight members living in the state of poverty in a small village in the middle of a vacant lot. All they had was an old house about to collapse and a cow, which gave them poor but nutrient milk. That cow was all that separated them from the absolute misery. One day the cow dies and the family was left with nothing, in total ruin. After that tragic moment, their luck began to change, and they themselves decided to change. First they cleared the space in their house and harvesting vegetables and then selling them to neighbors and even a market place. The family’s income started to increase and they started to dressed better, they fixed their house and they realized that their life could change, even with no cow around. Through its nine chapters, the book gives us clear and concrete examples of people that were holding on to “cows”, which symbolize fears, negative thoughts and comfort zone, and how they came to realize that they could overcome these “cows” and achieve success. Each and every one of us have cows in our lives. We tow our beliefs that sometimes parents impose to us or we use excuses and justifications that keep us tied to a life of mediocrity. We have cows that do not let us seek better opportunities, grow and become better individuals. Based on a psychopathy checklist conducted by a psychiatrist; Bernado, Homolka's husband received a result of 35 out of 40 proving that he is a psychopathy whereas Homolka received a 5 out of 40 which means she is not qualified to be considered as psychopathy. This shows that Homolka is trying to turn the reasonable law into a lie with her fake and fraudulent emotional and psychological. Therefore Guilt, love, hate, desire and sickness to the extremes of Homolka's excuse are unreasonable and should not be considered an appropriate excuse. Allowing...

...school. For the first year I just made excuses and blamed everyone but myself for all the problems that were going on in my life. So instead of making excuses I am going to take personal responsibility for the amount of time, energy and resources I use to be successful in college and in life allowing nothing to stand in the way of me reaching my goals. When it comes to personal responsibility I have learned that it is a choice, my choice. If something isn’t going right in my life it is my choice to make it better, live my life the way it is, or make excuses. For years my ex told me I was a waste of space and that I wouldn’t amount to anything. At that time I accepted that was how my life was going to be but after going back to school the first time I found this saying “If it is to be, it is up to me!” I have made a poster of this saying and posted it in my office; a week later I moved out and left my husband. I know now that no matter what is going on in my life it is my choice how I will let it affect me. My college success is completely my personal responsibility. I get to choose the amount of time I will spend of each assignment, and the amount of energy I will use finding and using the resources available to be successful, how we use our time, energy and resources will determine our success or failure in college. We can choose to do EVERYTHING it takes to be successful and reach all our goals or we can sit back and make excuses which will just lead to...
