...Experiences as a writer My experience as a writer is very limted. As a mechanic and seeing that this is my first time attending college I do not have much experience. The only time have to dedicate to writing is when I’m off from work. I am usually writing about my feelings for my loved ones in a journal. When at work I am required to write reports on the equipment and the functions of the machines. At school I am allowed to expand my knowledge for writing. My feelings towards writing are mixed. On one hand I enjoy writing but, because of my lack of knowledge and my busy schedule I do not have time to fully dedicated myself to it. To me in order to write u have to have a feeling towards it, and truly understand what you are doing. I believe that you cannot simply jump into writing it has to be learned over time and practice in order to become a good writer. My experience from writing comes from my journal entries that I try to write in every day. I believe that is going to help me become more adjusted to writing in a class room. My bad experiences with writing come from when I was in high school. I was not a very good writer and it showed in my grades. I do believe it’s because of I lacked the passion to write. So that taught me that whenever I pick a topic to write about it has to be sometime that I could relate to as closely as...

...Writing is a skill set. I consider it one of the basic fundamentals that make up one’s individuality. Writing can be exciting for some and frightening for others. I do enjoy writing, but I am often concerned when I have to write. Writing is a major part of my life, ranging from responding to a guest at work to emailing my attorney about my case. My desire to learn and ability to adapt to the writing process will make me a better writer long term, which will turn this weakness into a strength of mine. I do consider writing a concern of mine. I find myself getting uncomfortable when I have to write. First, I have a hard time starting; I just don’t know where to begin. Secondly, in my opinion, I came up through a poor educational school system in New Orleans. I believe I was not taught the proper way to speak English, nor was I able to write it proficiently. Being a native from New Orleans, I spoke with an unusual tongue that resembles street slang or jargon. I then found myself writing how I spoke. Another problem that I have a hard time with is properly identifying grammatical errors. Since I cannot remember the rules or retain the information to correct errors, I will miss it in my writing or someone else’s writing for that matter. I will begin writing in one form and tense then shift to another form and tense and not notice a difference. This is one reason why I get uneasy about writing. One day while I was at work, the hotel had a pipe burst in a guest room. The room filled...

...My Experiences as a Writer Sadie Brown ENG.090 Dr. L. Dennis Strayer University December 7, 2011 My Experiences as a Writer I experienced writing at the age of 3, scribbling and doodling, and then I began to write my name. By the time I reached grade school was the first time I wrote an essay. I have written other things such as poems and a couple of personal letters. Since then, it’s been difficult to write because I no longer have inspiration. I like to write but have little enjoyment doing so; I guess you can say I lost my muse. Nowadays I basically just write little notes to myself and maybe a love letter from time to time, not giving them to anyone in particular. Other than that I really don’t do much writing anymore. Nothing seems to inspire me. My concerns as a writer is that I may not be as good as I think. I feel that I will fail and get rejected. I know rejection is a hard pill for anyone to swallow. Writing is good in many ways because you can express yourself, expand your vocabulary and spelling, and use your imagination. Writing can be enjoyable and frustrating at times. It doesn’t take much to become a writer. All you have to do is start writing. Let the pencil take you away in exploring your thoughts on paper. These are just a few experiences I’ve had as a writer. I really can’t say what good experience I’ve had as a writer other than the writing I do personally that only I can see and judge. My bad experiences seem to...

...Experiences as a Writer Writing can be a good or bad experience; it all depends on the writer. People who are good writers have fewer problems than those who have trouble writing out their thoughts. I believe those who have a great mind of imagination are some of the best writers. My experiences in writing have always been a minimal, because writing is a difficult process for me. The problem I have with writing is expressing my ideas and thought in a concise and coherent manner. In the future, I hope to be able to improve tremendous at writing essays, research papers, and other writing assignments without very little to no errors. I hope to be a well-rounded writer when I complete this course. I begin writing when I was in the first grade, when my teacher showed me how to put words together to form sentences. The second grade is where I was showed how to write simple sentences. I was also shown how to correctly write sentences so that didn’t have any run-ons or fragments, on complete sentences. Eventually when I reached middle school I was able to write a complete paragraph, and term paper. Everything I have learned in school has helped me to be able to write resumes, reports at work, and other important things in my adult life. It is very important that my resumes and reports are written correctly, and my words are professional. It has helped me to elaborate and point out the important in my resumes...

...My Experiences as a Writer Thus, I wrote about my life, the summer vacations or silly, imaginary things. I felt intimidated by the prospect of having to fill a page as much as by the endlessness of those first minutes I needed to find a start over than, “Once upon a time.” I like to write. My first experience as a writer started in elementary, around age 12 when I wrote a story. Every now and then, during English class, we were told to write. As I recall, the assignment mostly was to “write about anything” which was very exciting. My Aunt Carol helped me plans ideas for my story. Then, we sat to write down what we had processed. My story was coming together very well. My story was a great, it was about a haunted house out in the country. This is where my writing took off. When I received my paper back from the teacher, she gave me an A on my story. Everyone in my family was so happy for me. My experience as a writer has been extensive. Currently, one writes extensively for school purposes, personal, and as a hobby. For example, I write for my online English and Math classes, whether its discussion threads, questions or essays. One of my experiences that has been bothering me inside since I was a child, it was the sex abuse I encountered as a child. Like many of us, if sex abuse has not happened to you, sex abuse is an ugly thing for a child to go through. Kids at school found out, and started making fun of me. That to me was the...

...Experiences As A Writer My experience as a writer started in high school and is continuing at the present time while I’m in the Army. High school gave me my first real writing experience because I had to actually take the time to come with a thesis statement, write a rough draft, revise, redraft, and turn in a final draft of my paper. Not only did that have to occur you have to conduct research on your paper, site what you researched, and put it all together to make one coherent flow smooth paper. After High school I came straight into the Army as I was taught the Army writing style which means no long and drawn out writing but getting straight to the point. My experiences writing in the Army has to come from writing different types of memorandums, counseling statements, and Non-Commissioned Officers Evaluation Reports. As I progressed through the ranks in the military I had to attend many schools in which writing was a big part of passing the course. Now I am the Head supervisor in my section which means that I spend a lot of time behind a computer and in meetings planning out the unit’s missions. Now my next writing experience is coming from my classes from my instructors at Strayer University on a collegiate level. This is going to be more challenging for me since I haven’t written research papers in twelve years. All I am used to is writing short simple straight to the point memorandums and counseling statements. I am in store for some new learning material and...

...In the past 5 years, I have been using my opportunities for writing in my work environment. I work in a Mini Medical Health insurance company where I have to communicate with not only my co-workers but the clients. A lot of my writing is done through emails and billing. I also write letters to our patients who are also members, notifying them of any problems regarding their insurance. Another form of writing I do through out the week is discussion questions for my English class and my Math class. The discussion questions are usually about what we learned that week. One example of the discussion questions would be, “How would I improve in my writing”? Another example would be, “How does mathematics affect our lives?” Also, I would respond to one of my classmate’s answer and give them my feedback on what they wrote. I know that writing is used a lot in the business world and that I need to improve in it because I am not very good at writing. It is hard for me to come up with ideas and conclusions. Writing also sometimes is confusing for me when it comes to using certain words in writing. An example would be remembering when to use the words” there” and “their”. One is talking about a place and the other about a group of people, but sometimes I use it incorrectly in my writing. What I would do in that situation is look it up in a dictionary to make sure I use the correct word in the sentence. There was once a time when I wrote an email to my boss and I did not proof...

...Throughout my twenty-one years of life, I’ve had plenty opportunities to write papers. Before I start the process of writing a paper, I sit down and think about what my topic should be then I come up with a thesis statement. I come up with my thesis statement first because for me, it’s hard to think of one after I complete my paper. It’s easier for me to come up with a thesis statement first and then I can branch off ideas from that. Once I come up with my thesis statement and come up with ideas to mention in my paper, I begin to write. In my papers, I sometimes tend to branch off to a different topic or I put more details into my explanation than I have to. I also think that I put way too many examples in my paper and by doing that it will lose focus of what my paper is actually about. I think that revising is something that needs to happen every time you write a paper. I even think that it should happen after every few sentences you write so you can catch your mistakes as you go. Getting someone to revise your paper is helpful. You can get a second opinion from someone else and it’s helpful to know what you can improve on. You should always figure out who your audience is going to be before you write your paper because that is very important. By figuring out who your audience is beforehand will help you on how you should approach them in your beginning statement. When it comes to your audience, you normally want to persuade them and get them to understand your...

...I can’t honestly say when I became interested in writing, but I can say when I experienced the moment I discovered I could write. It was this discovery that gave me the confidence I needed to try and actually study in school and not just do the least amount for a passing grade. The moment was during my first English class at university when an instructor said to me while handing back my essay, "Would you like to turn this into a novella?" Up to that point no one had recognized me for academic achievement, let alone writing. I was shocked, I remember standing there and saying, “You must mean someone else, I don’t write well.” The instructor laughed and I was offended. Why was I being laughed at for being such a poor writer? Once I realized...

...I have positive experiences with writing because I read a lot and I think that reflects in my writing and makes it writing easier. One thing I have learned from reading many books is to have my writing authentic and unique because those are the writings that stick with you. I have written a research paper, persuasive essays, book reports, and a reflection paper. One of my mistakes in writing is that I don’t know how to stop. I used to write very long stories in elementary school and my teacher had told my parents that I ramble a lot in my writing. Ever since, I’ve tried to control that and I try to write clearly and concisely without making it too repetitive or redundant. I like when I can essentially “hear my voice” when I read my writing, which is why as much as I do respect and appreciate criticism on my papers, sometimes I find it hard to change my writing because I want it to sound the most like me....

...capstone course such as: Blake, Frederick, Frado, and Curses of Cast, there seems to be a difference between the voice of black female authors and their male counterpoints of this historic period. Male and female victims of slavery had different experiences, and of course each specific person who had to endure institutionalized slavery and racism had their own struggles to overcome. However, after reading some of the most well-known, and some less well known, books written by black writers in the eighteenth and nineteenth century, it becomes evident that the style and voice of books written by black female writers carry a different weight of importance and power within the scope of literature....
