I have realised for a sometime that there resistance within our service to fully consider children as equal partners. Practitioners do consider what they think children would like and what they think would work best for children, but children have never been active participants in developing policies within our service. I believe this is due to lack of staff training. I work with four practitioners, two were awarded their Level 6 qualification in 2009 and two other colleagues hold a signed grandfathering declaration form. Lack of staff training is something I find challenging in my role as a child practitioner, as I believe it creates many barriers for the children in our playschool and also for my own professional development.
