An employee must give informed consent before a doctor or other health care worker may examine, investigate or manage him or her. Ideally, counselling should follow informed consent. Absolute confidentiality regarding employees with HIV positive test results and those with AIDS must be strictly maintained. One of the ways to ensure existing infections are managed is to provide managed health care, utilising the services of specialist providers. A healthy lifestyle and diet will improve the health of a person with a compromised immune system. A company should commit itself to creating a working environment where employees feel they are able to disclose their status without fear of reprisal, and have the understanding that the company is committed …show more content…

01 December 2000. It contains useful guidelines and legal requirements for employers, trade unions, and employees who grapple with the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The role players in occupational health and safety
The promotion and maintenance of health and safety is important for the well-being of the individual, for the success of the organisation, and for the general success of the country. Individual employees and their representatives such as trade unions form one stakeholder group. The OHSA imposes the general duty on every employee at work to take reasonable care of the health and safety of him or herself and of other employees who stand to be affected by his or her behaviour.
